For me it would be....
-sarcasm/=/comedy
-romance (ish?)
-action or tradegy
-ironic situations/events occuring
-a protagonist that the audiance will like
-antagonist with complex character that leaves the audiance to takes side ( which i end up doing... ugh >.< )

and more stuff but yeahhh

a good storyline has to catch your eye first and then you have to see how the artwork is being potrayed either a serios drama or a ridiclous comedy and it really has to depend on the perosn watching because a good storyline could be great in paper but horrible in anime

Hahaha. So in short, Planetarian the game, am I right?

Yup

Planetarian follows that

And...

So does pretty much every Key novel... >_>

Not that I think it's a bad thing mind you. I think it's great!

Something Naruto doesn't have.

Q: "What makes a good story line?"

A: Characters.

Characters assert themselves, on the world, and with others, creating the narrative or story line...

The characters tell you, who/what* they are and where they are going, by what they do, say, think...
The story line is the result, of the character's decisions, and what you know, or will discover, about them, from those actions.

If a "story line" has suffered, from "plot holes", then the creator/narrator has neglected, to develop & understand the characters...

Develop the richness, of your characters, by exploring their values, what motivates them, and the need, for an externally, imposed plot/story, -contrivance- , dissolves...

*elemental characters also exist, such as weather, social issues, technology, etc...
