Are emo's more stereotypical on the internet than in real life? If so, why?

Are Emo’s acting more like the media has portrayed them to be on the internet because they have more freedom to be themselves or are they all just following the same trend?

(P.S I am not trying to be rude, I just want to find out)

[Edit] Okay i think people are getting me wrong. Im not saying i believe that all emo's cut and are depressed and so on, im just asking if you think that some emo's are more stereotypical over the internet than in rel life.

Afraid so. I knew several kids back in high school who weren't even remotely emo (besides how they dressed), but as soon as they got online, it was nothing but live journals, bad poetry and weirdly angled myspace pictures.

No, i don't. You see, i don't go to myspace. NVM, i know now. People like this ??

"Holy shit, my life is so dark... maybe it wouldn't be if my fringe wasn't the size of a fucking twin tower. But if I didn't have it I wouldn't have anything to whine about. I'm so emo..." - encyclopediadramatica

labeling someone as "emo" is something of a put-down, a stand-in for "overly emotional" or "melodramatic." The implication is that they are excessively moody and angsty, prone to crying jags and plagued by a love of bad poetry. Hot Topic even issued a patch that read, "cheer up, emo kid!" But for those who call themselves emo, the term means something more pure. At its core, emo is all about being upfront with your emotions. Or, as one "expert" defined it, "emo is like being Goth, but much less dark, much more Harry Potter or sum1 lyk dat!

Well, you got emo and then you got emotionally depressed.

Emo is in my eyes, just a fad.

Emo's need to be exterminated on the internet and in real life, we need a new Emo oriented killing Hitler who is trying to take over Green Day concerts.

Calling people "emo" is just bullying them.I bet half the people labled like that NEVER slit their wrists before. But because they like to dress one way or they're naturally ultra pale or they aren't always very shiny people just apread that that person is dperessed which may eventually lead to the person making the rumors come true.
You know what I do to the people that call me emo?
I walk to them with my arms out and say "Where did I cut myself?I obviously don't kniw but you do.Can you tell me?"
Sorry,it just pisses me off when people do that.

On your question though, I think people in general are more open on the interweb because there there are no restrictions from parents or friends or public society. On the internet almost no one knows who you are.You can be entirley yourself or someone you've always wanted to be((Granted that will get your ass kicked but you can still do it))

Example::In real life I would not have had that long paragraph.t would have two sentences and a "Shut up".But here,no one is gonna give a crap if I give long paragraphs or a short two sentences.Because it doesn't matter.

you may be right about this part...but what about those people who call/label themselves emo? Should we call them masochists cause they bully themselves?
