I'm going to plug some power metal, also, because power metal is the truest form of heavy metal around. And some progressive and melodeath.

Lost Horizon
Firewind
Early In Flames (Lunar Strain - Colony)
Dream Evil
Zero Hour
Vision Divine
3 Inches of Blood
Between the Buried and Me
Crotchduster (Because they have so many genius moments, like Star's Ingenious Cooter)
Cellador
Dragonforce
Dragonland
DGM
Hammerfall
Heed
Early Helloween
Hibria
Kamelot
Onmyouza
Sahara
Sonata Arctica
Stratovarius
Symphony X
The Black Mages
Hellspawned Warhammers of the Nordic Wind (lawls)

Power Metal is the cure for any ailment.

I listen to all of those bands as well. I did not want to post a long list.
I see what you mean about Dark Tranquillity, for some reason I still enjoy some of their music.
about Killswitch Engage, yeah that's exactly why I listen to them, everything else about them bores me.
I have not heard crotchduster, nor Hellspawned Warhammers of the Nordic Wind though.

NO GALNERYUS?! Waitaminute. You put Sahara there (which you told me you didn't particularly like when I first showed you them) but not Galneryus? Clearly, your lack of sleep has clouded your judgment.

Heh, I kinda got bored of metal 1-2 years ago, before hand however my list would of read very similarly to Mauz'. Still listen to the odd Opeth, Dream Theatre, CoB, Strato and Rhapsody tune, though not with the frequency I once did (read, all the time).
Lake of Tears are possibly the only 'metal' band I still adore, they are kinda psychadelic, stoner metal. With a penchant for both the hideously cliched, and the wonderfully whimsical, cut out the bad songs and they are pretty damn kick-ass. Still listen to the occasional Empyrium song too, but not sure if they count as metal these days.

However Pantera, and far more regrettably Guns 'n' Roses still find their way onto my playlist all too often. I just can't shake off GnR being the first album I bought, and the first band I really, really liked, even if it does border on Cock-Rock.

Heh, Cradle of Filth. Heh. Unfortunately I lived very close to the bands hometown for several years, saw them a couple of times... although I want to make it quite clear I didn't pay for the tickets, also was friends with a guy who worked with them on a few songs, shit hot guitarist, but apparently Dani 'Filth' really is as much of an asshole in real life as he is made out to be (and as short).. I remember walking around Ipswich with their current (I think) guitarist Adrian after a show, pretty cool guy, we both had no ride home, unfortunately he had money, a hotel and 2 female groupies, so me and my buddy found ourselves sleeping outside the train station that night. Ackercoke ( Cannot for the life of me remember the correct spelling) were pretty good that night, except for the attempted hailing of Satan, through the repitition of his name... Unfortunately for which, was merely greeted by cries of 'Wanker'.

especially you Pzycho. Good metal is not found on the radio.

Here's mine, I used to have Metal fever 2 years ago. Now I have listened so much of it that I'm taking a break and decided to explore other genres.

Opeth
Dream Theater
Dark Tranquillity
Moonspell
Sepultura (old days)
Metallica (old days)
Porcupine Tree
In Flames (before they sucked)
Childrem of Bodom (until I got sick from the singers voice)
Arch Enemy (before they had a female vocalist)
Meshuggah
A bit of Death
Nevermore
Mastodon
The Crown
Megadeth
Shadows Fall
Killswtich Engage (onle a few songs)
Pantera
Evergrey
God Forbid
some Iced Earth
Ministry
Testament
Motorhead

You get the idea.

I used to be huge into metal about 5 years ago. I haven't followed it too closely since then.

Mainly I listened to Black Metal, fav bands being Emperor, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Satryricon, Marduk, Immortal, etc. I got into it through Cradle of Filth so I'm partial to them despite their being much better bands out there.

Death Metal is good stuff. Morbid Angel, Nile, Cryptopsy, Death, Suffocation. I tend to prefer technical death, though grindcore is cool every now and then.

Thrash is awesome. Slayer is probably my all time favorite metal band. Some of the other old school thrash bands are cool though I seldom listen to any of them anymore. Old school Sepultura and Megadeth are cool too. I love Mercyful Fate/Kind Diamond as well. Thanks to all my black metal habits, I enjoy Venom despite how abusrd they can be.

melodic death/gothenburg/doom/whatever has some good stuff too. Old In Flames and Opeth would be my faves. I used to worship Opeth, but they lost me with Deliverance. I haven't checked them out since. In Flames is just one huge pile of gay now. Whoracle and Jester's Race are absolute classics though.

Mainstream produces a good band every now and then. I like Pantera and Type O Negative (though they're more 'accidental mainstream' than anything else). Rob Zombie used to be cool, but he fell apart after Hellbilly Deluxe. That album was easily on par with White Zombie so I wouldn't blame the break up for it, I think he just lost his edge. Maybe it was all the mainstream attention, I don't know.

I couldn never really get into power metal back then, though I enjoy it a bit more now. But I don't take my metal as seriously now as I did back then, so I can get past the utter cheese of it all and just enjoy if for the good music that it is. It amuses me to no end that it's popular now since it used to be the butt of every joke in the underground 10 years ago (that and nu-metal). Now black metal seems to have taken it's place as most mocked genre. I do think Dragonforce kicks ass though. It's like they cut out all the bullshit in power metal and just delivered the goods.

What's wrong with Arch Enemy with a female vocalist? She sounds just as good as most male vocalists, she never tries to sing clean (like most extreme female vocalists do) and I didn't notice any extreme difference in their style. I haven't heard anything recent they've done, but their first two albums with her are quite good. I tend to use it as a novelty band to show people that that not all metal stereotypes are true.

I rarely listen to metal anymore. I pretty much listen to everything now, hip hop, rock, electronic, old school country (like johnny cash), classical, opera, classic rock, folk... I've just gotten very bored and lethargic about metal. Maybe I was just too into it to get excitied about it anymore.

This video sums up what I think about all the current screamo/emo/hardcore crap going around now:

There is nothing wrong with a female vocalist, sure Anthems of Rebellion kicks ass, but I just don't like her. And their latest album was kind of disappointing as well.
