I honestly can't believe that it took me up until this page to post here *ashamed*...
Well, I suppose I have to put my list down, I've probably forgotten people, and some of then I listen to "just for laughs": N.B. Some of these are seriously "Old School" - and I wouldn't really consider them "heavy" metal - some of them barely make it onto the metal spectrum and remain utterly "rock" - but they've been posted before in this thread, so I'd be wrong not to. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Testament, Saxon, Pantera, Motörhead, Metallica, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, AC/DC, Aerosmith, (rock, not metal) Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Arch Enemy, Black Label Society, Black Sabbath, Candiria, (v same) Chimaira, (can't really stand them, I don't know why I've kept any stuff by them) Deep Purple (rock) Def Leppard (rock) Die Ärzte Die Toten Hosen (these last two are considerably more punk than metal) Evanescence Exodus Finntroll (gotta love them! :P) Godsmack Guns 'n' Roses (rock) Hammerfall The Haunted Heaven Shall Burn HIM In Flames It Dies Today Killswitch Engage Kiss (rock - but yeah, they were put previously) Korn (No idea why I listen to these people >< - or even, don't listen to them, why I even have their music) Lacuna Coil Led Zeppelin (yet again someone has put them previously, they are rock, not metal!) Liquid Tension Experiment Luna Megadeath Misfits Nightwish Opeth A Perfect Circle Ozzy Osbourse (as a solo artist this is) Queen (how are they metal, still, they've been posted previously) RATM Rainbow Rammstein - they're very good for learning GermanSepultura Slayer Soilwork Static X Fear Factory Stratovarius Suffokate Symphony X SOAD Tool Trivium Type O Negative (lol!) Vader Within Temptation Malmsteen OOMPH! Stiff Little Fingers (Punk more than metal) Eddie Van Halen Iced Earth There goes... I've probably forgotten some... I still want to know your opinions on; Who were the real fathers of Metal? |

Cleaned out the crap for you. A lot of what you posted isn't even metal. If you actually listen to old school ambient instrumental Mortiis (like fodt til a herske), then you earn serious azrael black metal cool points. His new stuff isn't bad... it's just more synth pop than anything else. More fitting of a eurotrash goth dance club than ye olde black metal church burnings. Kinda surprised to see what I assume to be gorgoroth on there. Here are some bands for you to check out: Emperor Darkthrone Satyricon Summoning Morbid Angel Nile Cryptopsy Blind Guardian For the real stuff, check out Mayhem and Burzum. Not exactly listener friendly, but they're the real deal. Gorgoroth is the real deal too. It's like he still thinks it's 1993 in Norway. I can't remember if he is still in jail right now. But their is one thing Gaahl from Gorgoroth does better than black metal - interviews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puwllq0fBLs EDIT - actually, old in flames (jester race and whoracle are their best albums), old ozzy (everything before and including ozzmossis is ok, randy rhodes era is the best), tristania, old CoF (they started to suck after cruelty and the beast), are all decent. if you meant opeth when you wrote opet, then they rock too. old rob zombie and old metallica are acceptable... but not that great in the grand scheme of things. Offspring and AFI are more "punk" than meta, but still ok in small doses. |

Your stupid.almost of these band are metal, some are puck rock with metal, and classic. The way you bringing up death metal, and black metal bands are not that much old school there from early 90"s,and the only late 80's bands are Darkthrone,Morbid, and Blind Guardian, does that mean you only know about these bands, these bands rock, but your not even old school.Old school would be from the 60's or 70's.GET THIS THROUGH YOUR DAMN HEAD. |

Thrash Metal
Speed Metal Power Metal Death Metal Black Metal Viking Metal Folk Metal Progressive Metal Technical Metal As well as some Grindcore and Metalcore. Oh yeah, and Nintendocore. I was too lazy to list all the artists. Too much effort for just one post. Azrael, you seem to have taste much like my own. Opeth is one of my favorites, along with Necrophagist and Thyrfing. |

Technically, in terms of guitar sound and heaviness, it was Black Sabbath. But they directly influenced the Stoner/Doom metal scene. Maiden were more pioneers of Power Metal. Priest was one of many influences that went into the creation of Thrash. Well, I do like some hip hop, but it needs to be sociopolitical and underground. I like artists like Immortal Technique. It requires a different set of ears and my requirements for what's good change from genre to genre. |
