Well, I live in the USA and rarely buy anime, since I find that most DVDs containing around 4 episodes cost about $30. I think that the prices right now are RIDICULOUS. Considering there are only about 4 episodes in each, I would estimate that each DVD should only cost about $15 at the most. If it was a boxset of maybe half the series to the whole series, however, that is when I think the prices should be $20-$30. But that's just my opinion.

What do you think would be a better price for these DVDs?

This is a more specific question than the thread about the prices of anime MERCHANDISE. I didn't find any other threads about this QUESTION, although there were some that were about the subject of the prices. I just put out a question I'm pretty sure isn't a duplicate. If this is a duplicate, then feel free to lock the thread.

Well the better price for the DVD's? Well I really don't know. Maybe about $10 for 4 episodes. I think I know why it doesn't sell much. Yes there are alot of anime fans in the world. But we rarely see anime in public! For example going into a video store. I would ask someone "Umm... Where are the anime DVD'S?" And they would say "what?" And i have to repeat myself and what anime is. And then they show at the waaay waay way way way back :< It doesn't sell much because PEOPLE DON'T EVEN SEE IT D: Its pretty rare for me to see anime dvd's in regular video stores T~T Usually the price here is $19.89

Unfortunately where I live we don't have anywhere that sells anime dvd's, though sometimes I go out of town and find them but I wouldn't buy dvd's at stores anyways making you pay so much for them. So it's the good old internet for me...I usually find them on ebay and they are quite cheap sometimes 10-20 dollars per season but it just depends on the anime..I bought (or I should say sniped it from someone lol) the whole series of prince of tennis on ebay for 50 dollars which is very cheap if you ask me...I like buying box sets but I have seen some outrageous priced ones for over 200 dollars...

i think in the us 5 to 10 dollars is very reasonable for a dvd that has 4 episodes.....

considering movies an hour and a half long costing over a hundred million dollars usually have dvd's costing less than 20 dollars, most of the time less than a single anime dvd...

also considering most companies in america that sell anime have only paid for licensing and voice actors and a little editing.......the anime has already made its moneys worth in japan and other areas....

so i think companies in america are making a killing selling these dvd's for 50 times more than they cost them to produce.....

i feel you... this i why i only watch anime online and don't buy dvd's....

who whants to pay 200+ dollars in america for a single anime series even a child could find and watch subbed on the internet for free......

another point.... most anime in america is marketed towards children... the dubbed ones that is.... and considering a single series usually costs 200 dollars or more..... how many children in the us have that kind of money.... also another reason it doesnt sell well..... i dont know any parents who would pay 200+ dollars for an anime series their child would watch in a day and never touch again.........

if they cost alot less i would buy them instead of streaming them on the internet

Dvd should cost 8~10$ like manga.. Boxsets should cost 20~30 bucks w/ additional bonuses, stuffs and posters if necessary. lol with that, Anime Market would be a blast!

yeah, it's really cheaper here, but then, there are limited numbers of shops that sell anime dvds to the public, so in most places it's not that accessible.....

Man i wish prices were as cheap as the one in the Philippines! Well in NZ, we're really behind when it comes to anime dvds (and a whole lot of other things too, argh), so i have very few. It would be cool if anime volumes were like $15 and i wouldnt mind paying $50 for a box set (that's half the price of a normal box set price in NZ).

well normal DVD movies cost between $15-$20 so thats reasonable for a 4ep anime since both add up to about 2 hours.
