Well, it's all about taste. To say rap is, in general, "crap" would be a very one-sided generalization. There's some rap that's alright, and some that's less than good.
Music has, and always had, a variety of flavours for a variety of people...

To me i love hip hop but "everybody sounds da same commercialises the game and forgot were it started!!!"thats wat NaS says an i agree with that lots of rappers do dat an dont keep it true no more like Soulja boy their are no real lyrics in his song an says da same thing over an over also he makes me feel really smart!!! i know people are ganna say its just a song u can dance 2 but it looks like he gave up his intelligence but one can make a song were dat doesn't happen like when Kanye made da song Stronger i didn't feel like he did dat!!! in a way Hip Hop does live like da teacha KRS-ONE sayed knowledge rains suprem i believe him NaS thinks da same!!!KRS-ONE sayed "hip means 2 know its a form of intelligence its 2 be update an relevant an hops a form of movement u just cant just up serve a hop u gatta get up an do it!!!!" dats hip hop not about the money or pimpin women its about the strugle an how people who come from nothing 2 becoming something!!! an inspire people 2 have intelligence an fight for wats true!!! ill tell this only 2 albums dat i think really stuck to true hip hop came out this year an dats The Teacha KRS-ONES album "HIP HOP LIVES" an Commons "Finding Forever" does were 2 me the only albums dat were true hip hop dat came out this year!!! if u looking for true artist then i recommend 2pac of cores an BIG!!!but for does who are still around then KRS-ONE,NAS,AZ,COMMON,Styles P,DEAD PREZ,Ice Cube,Rakim,Lupee Fiasco,Mobb Deep,Planet Asia,Hieroglyphics,People Under The Stairs,Run DMC dats all i can remmeber at da moment with sum of da artists it depends on da song but yeah!!!im a stop now its a bit long but if have question on is rap is crap? or if u have questions on Hip Hop in general like how is it alive or dead??then message me i like talking about this!!

It always amuses me how people always refer to Biggie or Tupac as "great" artists simply because they died before their time...It's not just them either people do the same damn thing with Jim Morrison and Curt Cobain...all these people were mediocre during their time. But since their death they have always gained this ridiculous pedestal of talent none of them really deserved
Hip-hop isn't dead....But it is on its last legs...and fading quickly

Hip Hop/Rap gets shitted on so much because of that retarded mainstream songs they play on the T.V. and radio. I mean the main thing people focus on now is the beats, they don't even pay attention to how shitastic the lyrics are.
Don't just judge a whole genre after hearing shit like 50 Cent, listen to people who actually have talent. Artists like Nas, AZ, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Big L, KRS-One, Rakim, and Jay-Z.

Hip-Hop is good these days...but it has no point!!! today in the Hip-Hip world anything with a nice beat and a dance to it are the greatest things no matter how stupid the lyrics are!!! there only some artisit that still rap and still make some sense!!!
