Rap, got raped by the mainstream much like punk did. But, there's still good underground stuff. They will call out the mainstream stuff. Ultimately rap isn't for me though. Just personal preference.

Old skool rap and alternative rap is cool, and so is reggae [what rap originated from] but now rap is just a bunch of fat guys advertising alcohol, violence, and promiscuous behavior for our culture which doesn't need it!!! and yes, rap is just bad poetry.

OBVIOUSLY not everyone's going to have the same taste in music. The entire reason WHY there are so many different types of music is because there are so many different types of people.

really now guys. "rap is crap" was a funny slogan....a decade ago, but i think it's a little worn out. time to trade it in for something new. my suggestion is intelligent speech.

as for the subject at hand, with all this reading, i have to say i forgot who said what where but but whoever it was, i agree with you :D
what i'm talking about is how many rappers today are jumping on the money train that involves clubs, hoes, bitches, bling, gettin' krunk (or crunk? im sorry, i really dont know how it's spelled). this would not be bad if only a few rappers would have started this train and left alone on it. it would have remained original but it no longer is. i do not so much have a problem with this new bling-ed out, mainstream rap as i do with the fact that no one seems to want to contribute something original to the mix.

despite all this, i still highly respect hip-hop and rap as a form of music and i do think that comments like "rap is crap" do little but make whoever said them seem just a little more braindead
