So the forums have been pretty unmoderated until now. There have been numerous spammish posts, double posts, and uncalled for topics that I haven't closed or deleted.. A lot of this has been deliberate, a lot of it due to laziness and time constraints =P. I had sacrificed quality to gain some growth for the forums. The forums are also quite disorganized, and in the coming week or so I'll be adding categories for on-topic and off-topic discussions..

Anyway, in order to boost up the quality of posts, I will need loyal, trustable moderators. If you'd like to be a forum moderator, please reply to this topic in one coherent post, listing:

1. your main reason for wanting to moderate. what makes you the best candidate? one sentence.

2. your prior experience, if any. which site? how long have you been moderating? (experience preferred, but not required)

3. your style of moderation. list any situations where you'd ban/tempban someone, delete a topic, post, etc, and/or your level of leniency/strictness.

Any off topic posts in this thread will immediately disqualify you from applying! =P Being a moderator is a privilege!

After taking these three points into consideration, as well as the maturity of your prior posts and your prior level of contribution (via cr points), I will choose THREE moderators.

If there's anything you'd like to mention, but privately, please PM me!

If you'd like to endorse someone, please reply to this topic!

The deadline for this is sometime on October 18th (in 10 days!)

Long live crunchyroll~!!

1. Well im on here jus bout every day(Like today i was on here about 12 hours) lookin at forums or watching stuff and read em comments also and stuff and id like to do it cause it would be a new experince Seems like somthin i could enjoy.

2. Well i had a forum for awhile it was goin good till the ppl i got it from deleted it cause they needed space.

3. your style of moderation. list any situations where you'd ban/tempban someone, delete a topic, post, etc, and/or your level of leniency/strictness.

Well i like to go by the rules so i would have to see em then enforce em.My style would be like if someone posted a topic that was racism or harrasment id delete it and maybe ban em depending what it says.I would also delete the double posts i see and the topics that are unnecessary like (What is you beliefs such as in religion) that has nuthing to do with this site and starts confilict within it.

[Edit] - changed original post. no experience necessary (but preferred)

1. I've stuck around on the forums longer than anyone else, I've been here since day 1 and I REALLY love this website and want to help it advance in any way possible.

Note: I have a TON of free time.

2. No prior experience but I've been frequenting some of the most well kept forums on teh intarwebs whom have communities that are just amazing, so I know how it's done. These websites would be CobaltandCalcium.com and SomethingAwful.com

3. Harrassment is a big one, that involves any insults/racist comments/comments on sexuality or anything like that would be unacceptable. this would warrant at LEAST a probation. Any shock image internet meme's posted without warning or as a direct picture such as tub girl, lemon party, Meat spin (I'm looking at you, Sarkins) would warrant either a long probation or a ban. I'd delete any topics that are repeats, or that have a subject matter that would be considered against the rules, whatever those rules may be. Depending on what rules you set out, I'd give out warnings for double posting, 3-5 warnings warrants a probation.

Over all, quality over quantity is my main goal.

#1 I wan't to keep order in the forums but still make it so they are a fun place to be. I'd do my best to be a good mod, not to strict, but still do an excellent job.

#2 I have no experience as a moderator, but I've seen a lot of the things that happen on this and other forums.(What other mods do, seeing how they react to things) This might be irrelevant, but I also served as treasurer and reperesetive for my school.

#3 I am very leniant and give warnings rather that take immidiate action. I would only resort to banning if someone continously gets warnings for the same thing(s) and I couldn't stop it in any way. I always would get a person's veiw on why they did it. As for posts, I try to get them edited and give warnings. (religious slurs are on a different level and would require more than a warning) For threads I would make sure I understand the meaning of it completely. For example, I would simply close a thread that was already made and post a link to the existing one. I also talk around the forum a lot so I understand the way things work. I'm not harsh at all but I still enforce the rules. I am certain I can do a great job and keep everyone happy.

1. I would like to be a mod not only to help Shinji with the great job he has done so far but to also help the users of this site. Plus i spend a great deal of time on this site and try to help the other users. So that we can all enjoy this place and have a good time.

2. I have alot of experince in dealing with moding people though it is not in a form. I have done it for awhile on a game i used to play called a mud. It is a text based game run by a group of people that control and code it. They deal with every problem you could think of from cheating to abuse on another user. I used to run my own sever version of this game and also worked with other people to run there own. So if i did all that for a game it goes without saying that I played it also. Therefore i understand both users and owners when it comes to punishments, bans and other things of that nature.

3. Well to be honest with you with dealing out punishment it will change person to person. As in not everyone will do the same things to brake the rules, but that goes without saying that there will also be basic rules broken too. On those type of rule i belive in the standard way of dealing with them warrings and if need baning. Since this is Shinji's site and not sure of what all the baned will get them baned from i would like to deal with this the fairest way possible. When i say that i mean by giveing Shinji a report of what happend and actions taken towards the user as a mod. Also i would also like to put in my 2 cents on weither he or she should be baned or not. Therefor leaveing the final call up to him so that way users are procted from other users and abuses mods if there is more than one.

also if i could not be a mod i wouldnt mind if Shinigami_man he is one of the few people i have seen in takeing there own effort to help out with the forums.

I know this is my first post, but I've been watching anime on this website for a while, and just started to upload a series today. I really like this website and when I see something I like I stick to it.

1. I would like to see things in order at this place, also I have really nothing else to do since I'm on my computer 24/7.

2. I was a moderator at a well-known forums for 2 years, the website is currently dead but I would like to say that I did a good job keeping things in order without being an asshole.

3. I would have to say I'm a pretty lenient person, rather than just closing a thread, I would look at it first to see what was wrong with it. If it goes against the rules of the forums I would give a warning-ban depending on how bad it is. If the thread is just unreadable or something like that I would try to fix it to make it readable for all users.
I know that I am probably not going to get mod position only because no one here knows me and that this is my first post, but if you do choose me as a mod I will not fail you.

1. I'm hoping the addition of moderators will improve the organization and overall feel of a forum as a forum, and nothing beyond that; off topic posts, spam, or topics that encourage spam should be monitored.

2. TechTV (now G4), Solid07, Animeboards.com as moderators. Other forum membership goes to Gamespot, UCLA forums, and a few others I visit occasionally. Moderatorship usually goes on and off for me as most forums rotate moderators every so often. Overall I've had 6 years of forum experience though.

3. In actuality I've never had to ban anyone from prior experience, so I don't think the ban/tempban applies to me. I've always believed banning should only be a privelege of the site/forum owners only. However, I'm pretty strict when it comes to off-topic or spam-encouraging posts so those will probably be deleted/locked immediately upon notice. I don't know the swearing level that's allowed on here but swearing doesn't bother me. However, racial slurs will be deleted : | I'm pretty lenient on the occasional trolling but if it goes to far it deserves locking. So basically I'm only strict when it comes to people abusing forum rules, but beyond that it's up the other moderators.

I don't want to be a mod, but I do have some suggestions as to rules.

1. All things should be related to anime , video games, crunchyroll, or anything on the site.

2. One liners should at least hold some value.

3. All posts must be intelligent statements.

4. No list threads. Leave a concise description of why you think the way you do.
*note moderators should PM the thread maker to make them clean up their opener to make things less like a list.

5. Profanity is frowned upon and should only be used to emphsize a statement.

6. All posts must be in English because a majority of people speak English on this site.

Thats all I can think of. Please take these rules into consideration shinji.

*Edit for content
NO BACKSEAT MODERATING!!!!!!
Simply inform a moderator that a post violates a rule and then let it go.

No necroposting. Seeing as this place is new, Threads that are 1 month old should be considered dead. When this site becomes more organized, perhaps a search feature could be used to search for threads that already exist so that there wont be similar ones.

1. I wish to ensure the stability of the community, as many content delivering sites have gone down hill not because of copyright issues, but by the instability of the community.

2. I am currently an operator in the CR IRC channel, which I pushed to create to reduce the needless spam and provide a convience of not constantly refreshing a thread, as well as admin on my local VoIP Ventrilo server. Previously a moderator on some anime forums when 56k was considered a pretty decent connection. I have also been involved with many forums, so I have a pretty good feel on how a forum should run and be stabilized. Moderators should also hold a level of competency and eloquence in order to effectively moderate a forum.

3. Since I was here since the forums opened (and even before manditory registration), I feel that the spam issue has been dealt with very liniently. I do feel that warnings are an appropriate way to deal with some negative posts, I also feel that they sometimes they let some individuals lose. Though, I myself will rarely give out an actual "warning", but if one is asked to stop trolling or spamming and yet they refuse, then they should be brought upon the moderating council and finally the final approval of the site adminstrator for a ban. Spam and other things of such nature will be allowed, but only in a certain section of the overall forum (if sections are to be instilled later on). Spam in any other section will be locked. Also, I feel that the forum is not a personal blog for one specific user, I pretty sure people can interpret what that means. Since this is an anime-based site, a lot of anime enthusiasts will be eager to post from day one, so I believe and emphasis on an FAQ and reading of the stickied threads. As for day-by-day negative activities, the given racial slurs, shock sites, constant flaming, threads made to attack other users, and the use of the forum for one's own personal vendetta will be dealt with intense warning and locks. Though all I have just stated seem to be pretty strict, it is only when I come by those exact situations. Usually, I allow people to let loose and say whatever, so that means profanity isn't a huge issue with me. Its the Internet afterall.

Also, though I may disagree with some board member's ideals and agree with others, I will take moderating action with my own personal judgement and those of my fellow moderators. I feel that people should enjoy their time on the forum and not feel like "the mods are always watching", but if the situation is dire then that is when appropriate disciplines shall be handed out.

1. Crunchyroll.com has AMAZING potential to be one of the best anime sites on the web, and I'd really like to part of what makes it continue to improve, in addition to my enthusiasm I'd say I have the maturity, clear judgment, and free time to be a successful moderator.

2. While I don't have any experience officially moderating forums I always try and stop the unnecessary and unproductive arguing on the forums that I see. (Ex: Haddon's flaming thread got pretty out of hand so I asked everyone to stop, and everyone left it feeling okay.) Currently I'm an op on the IRC chat for Crunchyroll. Overall I think I have good skills with people and solving conflicts/problems that will arise from people on the forums.

3. Warnings would be issued before banning. As a general rule I'd say 1-2 warnings, but I can't say for sure because each situation is different. Most conflicts would be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Warnings:
~ Double Posting (3-4 warnings)
~ General disrepect to another poster (2 warnings)

Banning:
~ continued harassment/disrespect of another poster
~ continued comments against another's race/sexual orientation/religion/etc.

Deleting a topic:
~ Repeat
~ The topic isn't productive in form of entertainment or discussion (while I know this is more personal opinion, if I wasn't sure I'd consult my fellow mods and you)

Deleting a Post:
~ Contains inappropriate material as stated by the PG-13 request
~ Contains anything stated above in "Banning"
(there are most likely situations I missed, but they would be dealt with!)

My goal is to have enough strictness the forums are organized and productive, but lenient enough no one feels like they're being overly censored. To avoid being too strict there should be a thread where spamming IS allowed, where people can be less formal with their posts, in order to avoid repeated topics looking at and making use of the stickied threads would be a priority. Also, While I wouldn't enjoy having to ban someone, if the occasion presented itself I would do so. Making my warnings clear and objective is also important. Lastly, no “special” treatment would be shown to friends I have on Crunchyroll or the IRC chat.

i dont really care much about being a moderator, i just want some moderation that works.

as for your rules arx...i think that will be up to the moderators. no list threads, all things related to anime? thats not cool, thats why hes making an off-topic section. and necroposting? just because its old doesnt mean its not a valid topic. id rather people find a topic thats old rather than start a new one exactly like it. needless clutter.

edit: before you make any moderators, people gotta be sure not to be biased. i want to kick certain people from this site, and im sure others want to kick me...make sure we get people who even if they dont like someone, wont kick out of personal opinion

ps. i vote bokchoi and doomaid for moderators, as both are constantly on the forums, in the IRC, and viable options for moderators. and unlike me, they would be fair moderators. ill admit id be biased towards people i deem unintelligent (which is the vast majority of people on these forums)

i fully support bokchoi for being a mod, as well as fuzz. two excellent, smart, and contributing people.

1. I'm very disciplined(though casual in my speech) & I care about cr and its community and want to keep it a healthy, friendly & intelligent one as we progress into the future.

2. no prior experience. about 8 years of forum experience though. i've been around.

3. i consider spam as anything that doesn't contribute. so if for example a good discussion was going on and then someone threw in a wise crack, i would most likely give them a warning. if the same thing happened but with a flame, i would probably immediately temp ban them. any actions i take would have an explanation why. i would of course have a tolerance for comedy though. it should be noted though that if everyone just jokes around and is funny all the time, nothing will go anywhere. the size of the community will make quite a difference in how strict i am. what forum it is will as well. though it ultimately comes down to the specific circumstances, to make general rules to use on all circumstances by would be foolish. overall, I think I can say I'm fairly strict. which will probably come in handy down the road.

Sorry. Thats what I meant. In the anime section there should only be anime stuff. All off-topic stuff should be in the off topic section.

When I said no necroposting, I mean it should be consulted by a mod first to see if its relevant to current events. Good topics that can be asked for ever should be stickied, but thats just my opinion. I already said that I don't want people making threads that are duplicates of another....
Posted 10/8/06
you shouldnt have to ask a mod to revive a topic...if you want it revived and its relevant, you revive it
