My unit has deployments to Thailand, I doubt I will get to go while i'm still here. I heard you gotta watch out for the Crossdressers there.

The weather is warm and humid. The food is great. And people, for the most part, are generally friendly. I've only been to Krung Thep, though.

Oh, if you're visiting Nong Khai, you should check out Laos as well. I found Vientiane "refreshing."

Thai people are nice but you need to learn some stuff about etiquette. Don't insult the king, the Buddha, or people in general. Don't point the bottom of your feet at anyone or anything "venerated" like a Buddha statue. Most people will understand that you're a farang if you mess up but some people can get EXTREMELY angry about these things.

Don't expect the work/service ethic to be the same. In other words, don't get impatient and pissed off at restaurants because your order is taking too long or the waiter isn't bringing you water refills fast enough. Don't expect everything to be as convenient as in the US.

Don't touch anyone's head. Don't let dogs lick you. Don't touch anyone with your feet.

One of my friends is Thai, and we went holiday with a big group of us last year, and the area we went to was fairly nice, it was really hot though.

my youth paster went there to help build houses and he said he met many wonderfully awesome people and had tons of fun even though it was incredibly humid
