Gameabout interviewed former head developer Hui Yeong Lee and the new head developer Jae Ho Han on July 16th, 2008.

On August 1st, Mabinogi will remark the grand finale of Chapter 2 along with the five generations it brought since 2006. With a catchy phrase, the latest chapter reminds one of notable animation title.

At the end of press conference, Gameabout met Jae Ho Han, who now holds next baton for development’s team. Former head developer Hui Yeong Lee also joined for an interview.

”I’m delighted that I won’t be flamed from now on.” says the former head developer as he grinned.



Alchemy

“Furnace is a tool to use alchemy, much alike a loom for weaving”

Each alchemy skill requires specific crystal, which can be produced from a furnace. Basic crystals will be sold by NPCs, but the advanced one must be produced independently. They will be arranged to be obtained at random success rate.”

“Furnaces only exist in Taillteaann; cylinder is an individual gear. Difference between them is portability. Furnace is for production, while cylinder is for combat and summoning. Think of it as a firearm and bullet concept for simplicity.”



“A cylinder is essentially not a melee weapon. Disturbance in balance is expected if the cylinder gains overwhelming melee combat ability or bonus. Only counterattack, windmill, and defence skill may be used similar to bows. Modification and enchants for cylinder is currently under planning. Much more features are yet to come.”

“Alchemy Mastery / Crystals / Skill rank will be present as three main factors of alchemy. Skill will vary the damage inflicted, as well as the rank of crystal required. Though current weapon enchant or special effects won’t be applied, exclusive contents for alchemy will be introduced in near future.”




Moreover, basic combat alchemy skill for four different elements will be implemented as default skill to allow new users to utilize alchemy skill without spending APs to learn.

“Water cannon is one of basic skill we introduced during the announcement. It literally blasts a cluster of water at the target. To set a firm boundary between magic and alchemy skill, its knock down effect and damage inflicted will vary on a distance the projectile is shot. Alchemy skills will consume stamina, but some may use small amount of mana.”

“Alchemy has no connection with one’s stats, but it is not superior either. Its effectiveness depends on users’ choice. I’ve known most players tend to learn the skill based on their preference. There is no plan to strengthen or weaken alchemy skills once published. This however, is the most difficult issue in introducing new contents. Continuous edits are expected to balance the game.”

In addition, basic recipes for item fusing and crystallization will be revealed to public. Fusing involves probability for success (fusing two swords together won’t result in armor), as well as failure. Failure will not result in reduction of item’s durability.
