Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide MikiSayaka wrote: Fluently? English I took Russian for 4 years in high school. But God knows I barely remember any of it since I don't use it frequently (Honestly there is little to no need except with a few of my online friends from over there.) That's the problem, they teach you, but when it's languages that are spoken by less than 5% of a population, do they REALLY expect you to retain any of it more than 2 years out of school? I use music (Lots of russian music groups) to help me keep the very little bit I still have. But honestly if I tried to hold a conversation, I'd likely make the person think I had severe mental disorders due to the fact I'd likely skip 1 out of every 2 words I wanted to say. :p I know the feeling. Spanish is pretty much the only option for us to learn AND retain through daily living. We're not as fortunate as Europe to have so many cultures in our backyard readily-accessible for actually applying our languages. Anyway, 2 here (English/German), and currently working on Japanese, but I have no idea how to practice the speaking through self-teaching. |

Anyway, 2 here (English/German), and currently working on Japanese, but I have no idea how to practice the speaking through self-teaching. FInd someone on here who speaks it fluently, buy a microphone, and skype with them. Have them correct you on pronunciations, etc. Keep in mind however, a lot of people on here are full of sh and say they can speak Japanese just because they think it will earn them forum cred, or somehow make them cooler. But you should, if you're learning it legit, be able to figure out who actually knows it and who is full of crap. Someone who is fluent to the point that you would want them to be would know any word out there. Which is why I have a few select RANDOM words from Russian memorized, so when people are like "HAH, I know russian" "HAH, how do you say refrigerator or pastry" (Those words will haunt me, we had a project, and we had to put BIG stickers with the words onto the items at our homes and take pics for the teacher to prove it... EVERY time my fat arse wanted a hot pocket, I saw the word for Freezer staring at me, and every time I needed a new Mountain dew...dear God... Refrigerator, refrigerator, refrigerator... lol But find a random word you likely won't remember, and if you see someone who seems fluent in it, check it with them, if they pass, exchange skypes, them BAM, you have yourself a friend to practice with! ^.^;; |
