morals, meaning, devolping characters, defeat, more then one goal.

i think alot of anime or manga have lost there flame because they have nothing but one goal in the story.

One piece one the other hand brings together a crew of people with separte goals which influence the story and world of one piece.
Also lots of extrax characters with bigger then normal minor parts.
buggy, ace.

it a world of characters instead of one.
teaches good leadership.

simalar anime and manga
kyou kara maou- good leader of demon kingdom and changes the world.

well to me i REALLLY enjoyed Angel Sanctuary
it was confusing in some parts but it made u think
and u had to read it and see how the points connected.

It great characters, not only one main character but a lot with a lot of depth.
and it was so freaking twisted ~ i love it

it had good suspense and so many characters that u fell in love with~

Kaiji.

It doesn't sugar coat the truth like many other stories does. It's so so so god damn friggin annoying to see yet another piece of literature (be it music, art, film etc) that conforms with what would be considered.. "politically correct".

Authors have this annoying habit to always sneak up some good moral lesson behind their stories. While it's good for kids. I find it very patronizing to watch it as an adult. We can make our own fuckin judgement thank you very much.

The characters always make an ideal decision. So flawlessly. So perfectly. It's nothing but the writer's own reflection of what they desire to be. It's disgusting and hypocritical.

Naruto. Bleach. One piece. Gundam. Macross. Doraemon. Kateikiyoshi hitman reborn. Amatsuki. Death Note (don't even get me started ranting about L). 90% of the rest of them that's ever made. Hollywood products. (especially hollywood products). They're all like this.

Now yes. I do admit I watch them. It entertains me. I'm just human. I enjoy cool fight scenes and special fx etc etc. I'm just saying that it's so retarded that authors always make their work hypocritically moralistic. Makes me wanna barf.

I thought I was the only Kaiji fan here :D
The only reason I didn't post Kaiji is because I only saw the anime and never got the chance to read the manga. I agree with you 100%. Watching Kaiji, you never know what to expect. The art style, by the artist's own admission 'is ugly', but the storyline is brilliant, gripping and intense. I watched the anime from the week it aired and never once regretted getting hooked onto it during it's 26 week run. The story was top class yet not overly complicated, no 'kawaii' faces and giant sweat drops on the heads, no humor to defuse the tension, no goody two shoes moral crusaders to withstand the lure of money and greed, no unnecessary romantic subplots or strong silent types. The villains are perfectly believable, yet their sadism can chill the blood more than any Orochimaru or Aizen can. Nobody's got superpowers and willpower can get a person nowhere. Morals don't always work. Kaiji is a brilliant fkin' piece of art. Especially the philosophy which is randomly sprouted during the show, such as when Tonegawa remarks on how people procrastinate all their life till they reach their deathbed and realize they haven't achieved any of their dreams. That single scene was like a wakeup call for me and troubled me for over a fortnight. Now, I've made up my mind to live the way I want to, without the expectations and burdens of society.

Sorry for sounding like a ranting loon but in summary:
Kaiji rocks.

You've got to admit Naruto and Bleach, though overrated, are the 2 best plt/storyline since many people watch it/ read it.

But honestly, IMO, the next best storyline is the manga Mx0, It just lacks recognition and it can become big too.

I seriously reccomend Kaiji for everyone.

I think Kaiji was better than Akagi because he was more human. Akagi was every man's worst nightmare. He'd crush you under several lifetimes of debt and ruin people with the blink of an eye. His luck was nothing less than Godly and though he was undoubtedly the most badass character in all of anime( read that again, Pein fanboys) he wasn't as gripping as Kaiji. Kaiji made the mistakes and choices any rational human being would make. And the intensity is way beyond the level of any anime airing now.
I wish I could get the english scans of the rest of the Kaiji manga. It would be so awesome. And I'm pretty sure there'd be scenes reminiscent of the Funai betrayal, Andou doublecross, and E-Card duel scenes

e-card! damn there's a couple of occasion where i literally stop breathing in anticipation of what's gonna happen next. Ending was very surprising though lol.

Yet another brilliant scene was.. the building crossing scene. Now that's what i call an emotional roller coaster. Very realistic portrayal of human nature. Of fear. Of hope. (and that scene with that old man. Gosh that was so sad)

Hope there'll be second season to this series.

(btw.. i've seen akagi too.. yeah it's not as good as kaiji. And mah-jong confuses me. lol)
