I don't really have a problem with an alternate ending, but the episode is terrible in comparison to the actual series. In 24 Tomoya has absolutely no character traits that he had in 1-23. No more sarcasm, no more wit, no more quiet confidence. He's just like any other character in an average romance anime, which doesn't work because Clannad is usually much better than an average romance. Also there is absolutely no trace of comedy in the OVA; even in some of the most serious Clannad episodes they managed to squeeze in a couple laughs. To summarize, an exploration of a Tomoyo and Tomoya relationship could have been enjoyable. However the end product reeked of a slapped together money grab that abandons important characters and character dynamics. Put plainly, it might have been made for those who liked the game, or crazed Tomoyo fans, but in the end it's just a dirty stain that tarnishes the otherwise amazing anime.

dude, how the hell can you keep a character the the same when he was torn with the situation that he had with tomoyo, just because you didnt like it, doesnt mean that its a "dirty stain that tarnishes the otherwise amazing anime" they have a reason for it, and come on dude, they even made a game centered around tomoyo/tomoya...

and if it was really slapped together just for a money grabber, why the hell did it take like 4 months to come out?

yea its true, i found ep 24 to be interseting, as it kinda came out of no where for me and i didnt know where it came from. now i know but i dont think the 24 episode is bad, it still holds most of what the past episodes were. plus since it was an ending, ending are usually not as entertaining as a developing story. its usualy sad/happy/disapointing to some but it still has what the others held.

I enjoyed this episode. I'm usually a die-hard tomoyaXnagisa shipper, but after I watched 24, I started to appreciate tomoyo more than I did before. And I'm even going so far as to thinking that she might be a better match for tomoya than nagisa.

But hey! that's just my take on it.

No. This is an OVA with no connection to the main series after episode 2-ish. The normal CLANNAD story will continue this fall in ~Afterstory~, which is going to e very sad. The ending, however, could go either way. There is a normal ending (sad) and a bonus ending (happy) in the original game (which I have played).

Other than being based off the same game, the movie and the anime are unrelated. Think something like what happened with Kanon '02/'06. Afterstory may only be 13 episodes, but they should be the best 13 episodes the world of anime has ever seen. And sure, Nagisa dies, but that's not the only major event.

There are a lot of them, maybe not as major but important or enjoyable none the less. I won't spoil them, rather, you can wait and enjoy them in their proper order and placement, when season 2 comes out.
