Germany is a fantastic country...
I lived there for two years and was able to get a good basis in the language and now I take german in school... next year i'll be in AP German

I've seen some posts where people said that the germans were a**es to the visitors, they are only a**es if you are one to them,

for example, when my family and I lived over there, we barely spoke ANY german but every single german who we needed to speak to was incredibly nice becasue we actually tried to speak the language to them...
they REALLY appreciate that because they recognize how difficult it is

BUT... when my aunt came over to visit, my mom was speaking to a bank teller (in german) when my aunt cut my mother off and just started to speak in english just like an arrogant american... naturally the teller's attitude went from pleasant with my mother to quite disgruntled with my aunt...

my aunt later said that we didn't need to try to speak german since everyone there speaks english pracitcally

anyway, sorry for the rant, I just can't stand it when people call the germans asses when they haven't really gotten to know the german culture...

must i be the great equalizer.
1. if you go there to live or vacation, know the language. no i dont care if they speak it also its just what you should do.

2. germany is not like the u.s. if thats where your veiwing it from. they = better in many ways. they are what you would call hardcore in a lot of ways.

3. ill save this one for any one who disagrees with me =/.

Germany is not an evil country why do people presume this? All they wanted to do is get rid of all the inferior people in this world, i agree with what they did. If they would have been successful the world hunger thing would have decreased, we wouldn't feel sorry for the less forunate (honestly i cant see why people would want to live a life being chanllenged, being pityed on, and never get what normal people have), and Hitler was a very, very excellent leader but with power comes great responsibility, and he didnt learn that so he took on too many countrys than he could handle (if he would have waited a little longer than invade Russia than probably Germany could have tooken over the world) All Hitler wanted to do was bring peace, justice and secruity to his empire (isn't that what all world leaders want???)

For the record, i am part german but im 2 countires more than german so im 10% german, i agree with what Germany tried to do, you may all think im evil but why do you think that. Hitler brought food and prosperity to Germany after that were in poverty after WW1, he made Germany a Super power in the world standing along side on even terms with the U.S and i think Britain. He made Germany one of the best armys in history that the earth had ever seen. He tried to do what all people wished to do with their lives.....To make a New world, a Better world.....A GERMAN WORLD!!!!

it's not that the country's evil, it just has an unreputable past, that's all. and i'm not so sure about the whole 'Titler was a good leader thing' but i think his ideas were good, just poorly carried out.

and in my experience, freedom of speech is only EVER freedom of speech so long as you conform with what everybody else says...

No there is no such a hate for jews or any religion or race in Germany...
But if you are non German then here are good tips: Never compete with German (in Germany), he/she wont like it. They hate if someone can do better than them, its becoz they believe to be simply the perfect! If you are better you can make them either jealous or scared ;-)
Never criticise Germans, they hate it, so if you are non-German you have no right to criticise them (in their homeland). Keep in mind, they like to be JUST perfect. Your criticism can be a big blow for them.
But its only my perception and I can be wrong, all I know they are not bad people. They are mostly honest, tidy and hardworking.

The most ignorant people on earth are americans. Germans are highly educated but I agree they do discriminate especially at workplace. Still I like them better, they do not support any war and fight for peace. Call it history's lesson or what, but they do fight for peace & clean environment.

wow.... alot of discrimination going around here.
Geez... though all i can say is that the past is the past for those of you rambling about the hitler stuff as if it was now and you especially shouldn't make any judgments about a certain place if you haven't even been there before! (Directed to those people that haven't even been there before and already talking sh*t about the place!)
Anyway....
I haven't been to germany myself, but I would like to go there someday. My dad has been there and he showed me some pics!
I like meeting (or at least just getting to know) people from other countries!
It'll be cool to have a german CR buddy!

American’s are ignorant, eh? Tell that to Bill Gates, dude! Judging by that post, Saa, I’d say you’re a bigot. In my opinion bigots are the most ignorant people on the world. Anyway, Americans do not have as high an education program as Germany or some other countries, however that does not mean that -every- American is ignorant.

You should learn to be prudent and discrete. You’re welcome to that opinion, however much it clashes with everything I stand for, but please in the future find a more polite way to make your racist remarks.

Also, chew on this my dear friend: I’m an American. I spent half of my life and education in Germany. I speak the tongue, and love the culture. My fondest memories are in Germany. Am I therefore ignorant? No, actually being that my parents make a decent deal of money I’ve been blessed with a rather remarkable education that almost certainly dwarfs your own. Of course this is not necessarily so, but I am assuming it since you come off (though I don’t claim to know you enough to title you) as a egotistical, racist, child.

Also, Americans has a capital A. If you are going to call people ignorant you might want to watch your own grammar, or else you may appear to be somewhat hypocritical. Something else to note is this: American’s education system is hurting not because American’s are naturally inferior in intellect than other people. (Which is an absurd and flatly stupid assumption, especially when you consider that American citizens reign from all sorts of blood lines. I’m 40% German, 20% Scottish, and a mix of a few others.)

Also you contradict yourself bluntly. Blunders like this are not good for making yourself look educated, as you apparently were trying to do. (For only a fool would call somebody ignorant if he himself was ignorant. After all, who would tell his brother to remove a speck of saw-dust from his eye, when this person himself has a log in his own. {Incase you don’t know that’s a quote from the bible})

You said, “they do not support any war…” and then went on to say, “And fight for peace!” If they are not supporters of any war they aren’t fighting for anything at all, not even peace.

You are right. If one were to generalize the German philosophies they could say Germans struggle to keep the environments clean. In fact you get fined if you don’t recycle. A clash that I had with several German friends while in Germany was that they said “American’s are jading our sole system! They are killing our planet.” Naturally I had a similar argument as place here before you. Unfortunately I was much younger then; moreover, I was myself at lack of tact.

I don’t know from where you reign, but if this attitude you have is common where you live you should watch which nations you call ignorant! Also bear in mind, American citizens are English, they are German, they are Japanese, Chinese, Hispanic. To call Americans ignorant is to, inevitably, suggest that all these races are ignorant. Or that stepping onto American shores automatically strips individuals of their knowledge. Well, it’s not worth my time to start a childish quarrel on the internet, so here’s my opinion on this. I’ll say no more. Enjoy your life, and just so you get this I am sending you a copy of it through messaging.

Also! For a random assortment of other people here: Germany is a great nation and I love her dearly. Yes, there are many aspects to Germany’s social structure, economics, and general governing that are (in my opinion) better than some things that can be found in America’s. However, this is true both ways. ‘

American’s are not all arrogant. A common philosophy in America is that we are great Human beings, but not better than everyone else. Where as some philosophies (such as mine, as a non-denominational Christian.) Suggest people should lower themselves and be equal on a low level. What is often considered the “American philosophy” (I hate that term since there is no central philosophy, but rather a motley assortment of wildly varying ideologies.) Says that we are all equal on a high level. That Human’s should rise up and be equally great, rather than equally low.

America has had a rough past, but what people forget is that America is not the first place to hold slaves. Servile labor has served as a pillar for many nations that still stand today. The difference is that the American’s did it in a scale that is larger than most other nations have seen, and also that it was more recent.

One final thing is this: America is passing from one phase to another right now. There was a time when the masses were all for jumping into a war to happily defend our freedom. They were mostly sexists and racist, this is the horror of America’s past. (No worse than Nazi’s eh? {That’s something I hate. Some people here in America have a tendency to call me Nazi just because I am more German than anything else, that -is- in my opinion highly ignorant.}) Now more pacifist philosophies are being taught, and feminists are struggling to equalize women. Personally I am for the new age mostly, but we are still in an overlapping generation. Please don’t judge Americans to hardly about what may come off as a paradoxical or even hypocritical outlook on life.

Srry if I offended anyone.
