Before other people come off the hinges about the commenters saying that the live US adaptions will suck. Take a breather for a moment. We all know that most movies taken from books or comics suck so. Not every one of them but a shit load for sure. So now hearing that the US is going to rip Cowboy Bebop from Japan, who wouldn't be like >_<

I personally don't looking forward to the US's live adaptions for example, Dragon BallZ because is they have American actors playing Asian roles. I don't care how much money you throw around, that's insulting. At least have some japanese actors in the mix if you're taking their natives story. Secondly, America has run far out of creative ideas for movies but slander the ones like Hancock or Lady in the Water. Now film makers are taking another country's stories for ideas.
I find it extremely hypocritical that America will take a story from Japan, sell the movies to theatres and for videos, making mass profits, and the US won't even give foreign films the same fighting chance to make money in the country. I know quite a few shows and movies from Japan that I wish I could have seen in the theatres or at least on a few cable channels in the states.

I don't see why everyone is bitching.. I really don't..
We haven't even seen an anime to movie adaptation that was properly produced, like Dragonball is going to be..
So if Dragonball is kickass, and you see that this CAN and DOES work then why would you not want your favorite anime turned into badass movies?

If it ends up being bad, then just forget about it like the rest of the world will..
You all say they are going to "ruin" the series for you? WTF!?
The show doesn't change at all.. All you pansy ass little nerds can still close yourself in your room with your dvd's or the internet and watch the shitty show while masturbating and wishing you could be with a real person.. That doesn't change.. So stop being a bunch of whiney little bitches..

Personally I am psyched every time I hear about one of my favorite shows being made in a movie.. Because I actually have faith in it… I personally feel that if the show is good enough for me to still be watching when I'm 17 than there is no way Hollywood or anyone can ruin it for me…

I don't really want Keanu Reeves to be playing Spike like I heard, but who knows, maybe it will be interesting. Personally I was disappointed by Knockin' On Heavens Door, though it was good. It's very hard to make a movie that's going to live up to the series, but I don't mind the try.

I also wanted to ask if anyone has heard any more info on Keanu Reeve's involvement with the production. Although I don't really think he'd make an *amazing* Spike, I'm sure he would pull it off suitably. On the other hand, I reckon he would be able to portray a truly fearsome Vicious though.

Well, it's official, the movie has the green light and Keanu Reeves will have the green hair.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-01-15/live-action-cowboy-bebop-proposal-officially-announced

The Japanese animation studio Sunrise has officially announced the plans for a live-action film adaptation of its Cowboy Bebop science-fiction anime franchise. The American film studio Twentieth Century Fox, the production company 3 Arts Entertainment, and Sunrise itself are collaborating on the project. Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly, Johnny Mnemonic) is slated to star. Joshua Long is acting as a production supervisor, and Erwin Stoff, a film producer who worked closely with Reeves on The Matrix and A Scanner Darkly, is also attached. The associate producers are Sunrise President Kenji Uchida, the original Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe, and the original series script supervisor Keiko Nobumoto. The Sunrise studio itself and Masahiko Minami (former Sunrise producer and BONES studio co-founder) are both acting as production consultants.

Stoff first revealed the existence of the proposed project last July to the IFMagazine.com entertainment website after the parties "just signed it the other day." Reeves confirmed the plans and his intentions to play the lead role with MTV Movies Blog last month. He also indicated that the preliminary story outline partly draws inspiration from the "Red Eye" storyline from the first episode of the animated series. Reeves and Watanabe had previously worked together on the "Kid's Story" segment of The Animatrix animated video anthology.

Keanu gets more hate than deserved, and I bet he'll be a respectable Spike, but the fact that Fox is behind the project is a killer to my hope for it.
