RPG lineup!
Posted 7/23/08 , edited 7/23/08
Well first up is Tales of Vesperia which is coming out in August for the Xbox 360

The newest iteration of the Tales series stars Yuri Lowell, a ex knight who wants to adventure past his kingdom, and became a knight to due so (barriers are around cities which stop people from leaving but also protect them from monsters) but didn't like the way the government worked so he quit and made a guild so he could realize his dream. The game uses the Evolved Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System which is just a really fancy way to say you have more free movement in combat, for now it is a Xbox 360 exclusive, but a PS3 port is possible, so if you already own a 360 great but if you own a PS3 sucks to be you.

Next we have....Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice! Also due in August.

In this latest installment of the ever so meaty RPG's from NIS and Nippon Ichi, you play Mao, a "honor student" who's ambition is to overthrow his father, expect tons of hilarity and weird plot twist along the way :P. The game uses Disgaea's tried and true battle system and level system, so expect to be doing 5634657345135145123 damage real soon! And yeah, as of right now its a PS3 exclusive, but a Xbox port is possible, especially sense development for the 360 was announced by the company that makes these wonderful games.

Now, Infinite Undiscovery is the next game to be discussing, due out early this September!

According to tri-Ace co-founder and R&D programmer Yoshiharu Gotanda, this game is set to contain 10 years worth of ideas that can finally be realized by the power of the Xbox 360 and that with it, "RPGs will undergo a true evolution." tri-Ace wishes to achieve this by putting the player through "situational battles" that will lead to "unknown discoveries" and cause permanent changes to the world. The gameplay is all in real time and has a real time day and night system, the time of day things are done and etc effect the outcomes and will all change the world. This game is for the Xbox 360 only, and judging from the "Only for Xbox" on it, it will stay that way.

The Last Remnant is a game due out in November, and is looking great so far.

The Last Remnant will feature a brand new battle system labelled by Hiroshi Takai (director) as a "Turn-burst, command-based system using symbol encounters." There will be no random encounters. It will also contain quick time events, sequences where the player must press a combination of buttons with a correct timing to defeat enemies. The game is due for the Xbox 360 in November, and later be on the PS3 and PC (Most likely a 6 month period, as that is the norm for timed exclusives)

Tales of Symphonia 2 : Dawn of the New World is probably one you already have marked
your calenders for

Its coming in November, and looks great. It continues the story of Tales of Symphonia, which if you haven't beat stop reading this, in which Llyod has combined the two worlds, but problems have come, such as new found racisim, and war. This game is a Wii exclusive, and is enough reason to boy a Wii itself in my opinion.

Chrono Trigger for the DS, due out this winter.

Coming out this winter for the DS, this is a remake of the best JRPG ever, buy it, period.

Disgaea DS, due out in September,

Is a remake, with new content, of the original Disgaea for the PS2 (one of the best SRPG's ever might I add) So weither you are a old fan, or new fan, there is much to love in this DS remake of the game, look out for it in september.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is set to be released this September.

Generally, when I hear Sega doing things like this to Sonic, my most beloved video game character, I want to stab them, but seeing as they let Bioware, the people who brought us Mass Effect work on the game, you can actually expect this to be a GOOD RPG for the DS, look out for it.

Fallout 3, due this October

Is a RPG where you are in a post apocalyptic Washington, and basically have to do whatever you want. The game lets you choose if you want to play it like a FPS, TPS, or a RPG, and it lets you make all the moral decisions and everything you want. It is coming out on the 360, PS3, and PC, so no matter what console you own, expect to have some fun! (Even though MS bought exclusivity for the DLC, it should just be timed though)

To Human is another RPG and its due out in August.

The player takes on the role of Baldur (voiced by Crispin Freeman), one of the Aesir. In the ancient past, the Norse gods truly existed in the form of cybernetically enhanced humans. Baldur, son of Odin, is one of these gods and it is his duty to protect the human race from an onslaught of an advancing machine presence determined to eradicate all human life. Too Human is a third-person action adventure role-playing game like Diablo. It features twitch gameplay in the form of fast-paced melee and ranged combat while also maintaining RPG elements including skill tree progression and dungeon crawling. It will only be avilable on Xbox 360.

Persona 4 is coming in December

And is the next in the Persona if the Megaten series (one of the best series EVER) If your tiered of your standard RPG affair, the Megaten series is just the breath of fresh air you need, with its demonic and religious influence's and reference's, modern day settings, and dark style, it will definitely be one to look out for. Its for PS2 so theres no excuse not to get this!

Valkyria Chronicles is coming this November

Valkyria Chronicles features a unique turn-based battle system called BLiTZ (Battle of Live Tactical Zones). In-between turns players are treated to an overhead map view, Command Mode, but zoom in to control each individual unit on the battlefield during Action Mode. Movement and other actions are handled in real time during Action Mode, though limited by an AP gauge that varies for each character. This gauge can recharge even during the same turn as you operate other characters. Additionally, players are in direct control of the characters' aim during Target Mode, allowing for head-shots and other advantages. Taking command of individual units during the player's phase costs Command Points, which can be utilized dynamically to either grant movement to many different units or the same unit consecutively depending on what the player wants to accomplish. This one is a PS3 exclusive.

Fable 2 is coming this October.

Fable II enhances the innovative system of morphing one's character based on their actions. Character morphing revolves around two main alignments: Good and evil. New aspects of the character alignment system include corruption, purity, kindness, and cruelty which will enhance a character's features. Purity and Corruption are more representative of what the character is like socially. The player can be good but a loner, or unpopular socially, or be evil yet charming, etc. This game is a Xbox 360 exclusive and hopefully won't be as disapointing as the first one because its not as hyped

If I have missed games, feel free to post about them.

Amen to that! They're also adding new dungeons to it, and Mitsuda is making sure the amazing music from the original sounds as close as it can to what it should sound like. I can't wait, Chrono Trigger gave me the chills when I played it, it's that good.

It made me want to cry, I wasn't particularly sad or anything, it was just THAT good. You know that feeling that you get once you finished a EPIC game and then know the next games you play are going to suck because they won't be as epic, yeah it gave me that lol.

Absolutely. LOL.

It wasn't just the storyline - the subtle little technical hints like Janus' cat, the way you could affect things in the future by going to the past, and the multiple endings - they made the series unforgetable. I remember walking out into 600 A.D. and crying just by listening to the music, LOL. I wonder why it took so darn long for them to finally come out with this.

Too Human looks alright. I'd get it if I had a 360.

Only thing I'm really probably going to buy is Disgaea 3 and Chrono Trigger. Even then these two are iffy because Disgaea gets absurdly boring after awhile and Chrono Trigger never interested me too much.

Infinite Undiscovery does seem a bit "revolutionary" with the day and night and real time system. Hopefully it'll work out well or at least work as a foundation for other creators to develop and expand upon since I like the idea quite a lot. Fable was like that too, just needed to be a bit more polished.

Last Remnant looks interesting.

Not a fan of ARPGs so Fallout 3 doesn't interest me too much either and I hate the Tales franchise.

Sonic is just meh...

That would be a prequel then if I'm not mistaken. Well if CT does well on the DS and has good sales that may give us chance for a brand new CT game, and I mean a CT game, NOT CC.

How would they make a prequel to Chrono Trigger, when it basically had its own prequel in itself? Time traveling does that.

People say Chrono Cross was good, but I haven't gotten around to playing it. It looks completely different from Chrono Trigger, though. =/ They should have given Magus a bigger role in Cross with finding his sister, and maybe not changed the gameplay as much. The music was still apparently awesome, though. `-`

Cross was good, not CT good, but good, not exactly easy to find in stores though, if you want to play it you can always just download it though >_>

Wasn't Cross a sequel? Schala was taken by Lavos in Trigger, but by the end of the game, she was still missing. Serge could have saved Schala later on, and Lucca found Kid at the end of Chrono Trigger. D:

I know that in Radiant Dreamers, the unofficial sequel to Trigger, they were going to include a masked Magus - but due to time constraints, they were forced to just make his character someone entirely different. The makers of Cross said they took elements from Radiant Dreamers and added them to Cross, but I still think they should have given Magus a bigger part. He is Schala's own younger brother, after all. : (
