Okay. I've heard so many Asian artists sing in English, but I can't
always understand what they're singing. Basically if you have to translate the "English" lyrics for people to understand, it seems dumb (I'm talking about Hyde's" Season's Call" here lol). Only a few artists really seem to pull it off. Utada Hikaru and Angela Aki do it the best in my opinion. But I know that they both studied English for a long time so they have an advantage over the other artiists. Who do you think is good at singing in English and who do you think shoud stick to their native language? Sorry if there's another thread like this...

For some reason, Koreans are really good at speaking english o.o. It's very intimidating because they know how to sing in english and their language. I'm Chinese but I can't speak my own language ;_;.
Like, if I compare some korean guy to Michael Wong singing in english, the korean guy will win. Because I've heard Michael sing "I am who I am" his english...ehhh. Not good =\.

BUT HIS SONGS ARE GOOD! Just. Don't kill me ;_;

And it also depends if they already knew english, like Wang Lee Hom. He never knew how to speak Chinese until he was 18, so his first language was English.

Utada Hikaru

You do know, don't you, that she's American?

Utada was born in NYC & didn't move to Japan until she was 15.

I say that people that actually know how to speak English should sing in English (if they want to).

I don't understand why people that can't even speak English would want to try to sing in it. That's just silly.

I'm totally fine if the english part is sung with an accent. But what totally kills is when it's grammatically wrong....that's when I think they should just not sing in english cause it just makes them sound stupid.

i think that hyde (larc~en~ciel) sings pretty well in english but i can't stand listening to kyo (dir en grey) and gackt singing in english

if ur good singing in English and people can understand u, then go ahead and sing in English. But if people have trouble understanding u, then stick with what ur good at.
I know shinhwa, is good with English. Took them a while to get very good though. Of course there are 3 of them that did live in the U.S. for some time, so they were already pretty good to begin with. I've heard many Korean groups sing in English and I can understand them.
I've gotta agree with ya b4 me. Some Japanese groups aren't that great with singing in English. Sometimes I think they sing something in Japanese but when I look at the lyrics, they sung it in English and I'm like, "WHAT!?!?"

yeah Aya Hirano should not sing English b/c in "Maybe I Can't Goodbye" i could barely understand what she was singing. same with "Unnamed World." it's hard to understand her English. Koreans are good at singing in English for some reason and most Japanese are not.

I gotta admit, sometimes
it's a bit hard to understand.
Lol. But I think they should still
sing in english though.

The ones that speak English sing it the best, obviously. Like Yuna Ito and Angela Aki.
And as others pointed out, for some reason Korean artists seem to have really good English xD

Who should not sing English? Kamijo from Versailles. Listen to their song, "The Revenant Choir". Cute, but, eh... >.>
