I think he'd give it to people who donate the most.

I lost my star 2 days ago...

In which case, mods still win right?

Um well I would have to agree with some of the previous posts. CR points are not a way to judge contribution and the Mods would be the most likely to get the tickets. ^-^
Although shouldn't it be that all the CR members join together to buy Shinji a ticket to Japan? That seems fairer! ^-^

Lets replace the number system with a rate-a-member system.

Only that would cause more problems.

Yep...

Seriously, what are some alternatives. I'm in favor of me rating everyone as I see fit, but I don't think that would fly. I would'nt mind something like date joined showing and points only shown in profile.

It seems this thread has evolved into a discussion about the importance of CR points.

I was thinking Shinji should make a rating system but I hadn't fully thought it out and it might be complicated to implement. It should weigh the amount of CR Points you have, the type of Forums you post in most, the average length of your posts, amount of videos you upload, as well as the type of videos (and maybe the popularity of those videos), etc. Then with all that info, each user should get a numeric rank and/or a user title that says something about you.

Considering how low my points are (how do you get it all the way to 10,000+ points?!), I wouldn't bother. I need that energy I spend clicking and typing for sleeping in school.

I think CR points should be given to those who make donations to CR.

That's a good idea. I don't know why donors don't get any extra points. You get them for practically everything else.

The CR point system is good in a way as you can tell who is regular on CR and it initially would have encouraged visitors to the site.
However i think it's now becoming more of a 'false respect giver' and encourages spam. It is becoming more popular not to have lots of points at the moment though ^-^.
I think that taking away points from PMs and GB entries (they do give points right?) would be a good idea as thats where most of mine are from. I think PMs show commitment to a person rather than CR in general- it might just be me!
Things that i think should be used to measure contribution to CR:
- Uploads
- Donations
- Useful/ interesting threads started
- Useful/ interesting posts
- Generally helping with upholding the rules
- Long time commitment (members who have been acitve regularly since the beginning?)
^-^

I think mods should be able to take CR points away as they see fit. Think of how little spam we would get if the users knew that they could get points taken away if they spammed, uploaded something inappropriate, etc. On the other hand, that system could become corrupt.

I also think that certain types of videos such as AMVs, random clips, and MVs should be given fewer CR points from uploading because they contain "less" content.

I also don't see the point in being given points from the guestbook entries and private messages. I think things that the public can see should be considered for CR points but not the private things that are basically private chatrooms.

I like the idea Basou mentioned but I think it's a little too complicated.

I have one retorical but yet obvious question? If we actually participate in trying to achieve over 10,000 as our mods what would be the point. I mean you either dont have enough money to stay in japan very long. Or you will end up on a crappy airline. Or the worst case scenario it wont even be as you dreamed. I mean for goodness sake whats the point on gaining so many points. By the time you achieve such a level in such a short time frame, you would probaly have arthritis of the fingers. In the end woohoo trip to japan and boo to lose your precious fingers. As you can see this all is a double edged sword.

I never liked the points system, after about 20 its useless, you just need that many (or whatever it is) to make topics. Moreover, I hate people that would attempt to show their points off, although I really haven't meet someone like that yet.

I think CR points are useless. The idea of rewarding someone for posting in a forum, meeting someone new, sending someone a message, or the like is pretty ridiculous. Do we really need a self-congratulatory pat on the back for these things? As far as uploads, donations, intelligent comments, and being generally polite earning respect and recognition, there are already things in place that accomplish that. The name of the uploader shows up while viewing I know who uploaded the shows that I watch and am grateful for it. People who donate have a pretty little star next to their name. You can quickly judge intelligence just by scanning the threads, ignore who you want, pay attention to who you want. I don't think I've ever looked twice at the number or CR points someone has. Why do we need to keep a running tally of someones usefulness? People who contribute in various ways are already recognized by the people here and are generally treated with respect isn't that enough?

^ I think it was originally put in place to encourage people to contribute when CR was small last year. That's a guess, tho.
