Filipino's Remakes of Korean Drama
Posted 7/26/08
Do you have any opinions about the remakes of Filipino's in Korean Drama's?

I think it depends on how well they play their role as the charcters. I actually watch them eventhough most of them are corny, they are funny.

I personally think it's stupid. There's no originality to it. They should stop making remakes of any drama from other countries period.

a remake should be in the same country. it should be called ADAPTATION or some sort...
it sucks, its like "wow! this korean drama is a hit!, we should copy it! and make them watch our version.... which suck.

No. I hate it I hate it I hate it.

1. Kdramas, IMO, are draggy enough as it is. Filipino remakes make it 10x draggier by adding 50 more episodes to a series.
2. K actors fit the image portrayed by their characters. F actors kinda look weird imitating them (ie Kim Chiu in My Girl, Regine Velasquez in Kim Sam Soon, etc)
3. The hot k actors are irreplaceable (Lee Jun Ki, he's one and only. No one can compare :] )
4. Kdramas incorporate their culture in their plot, characters, conflicts, settings, etc. F drama remakes, or any remakes for that matter, can never perfectly follow that sense of culture in their series (ie Meteor Garden vs. Hana Yori Dango)

Me? Filipino.

Remakes? I hate it.

Well, when I first heard of the remakes, I was really happy.
But then, it was followed by another remake, then another remake, another remake and so on.
I am so tired of those remakes! Gah! Better stick to watching original TV shows like Asero and Dyesebel.
They think that My Girl was a hit in the Philippines (Well, not me cause I didn't even bother to watch it)
so if they'll remake it AGAIN, they'll know that it'll hit the Phil. Again.
The only remake I liked was "Ako si Kim Sam Soon (I am Kim Sam Soon) Because they made it a lot more funnier and MariMar (Basically, not Korean but still, a remake) it was a hit before and it was a hit again.

Well I dont personally feel bad about it...

as i see people who give comments here if ever

are almost Filipinos...

so i think that we have to be open-minded to new strategies that has been arising from

the production team of tv networks...

i mean lets give it a try...

and if you dont like it...

then don't try to watch ...

or dont try wasting your time putting bad comments about it...

especially if you haven't watch one...

to put comments like this that would end up destroying the credibility of not only one Filipino

but almost 86 millions of us...

i think that it is too HARSH

especially if those comments came from our own fellowmen...

MAHIYA NAMAN KAYO...

where have those things that our ancestors have fought for against foreign invaders...

where have those been thrown away...

and for addition i think we should not be judging a remake

just because you reside yourself to one station only...

i believe this forum came up for Filipino drama remakes and not

a GMA or ABS_CBN remakes only...

Uh, I'm not particularly siding with anything, since i believe that some remakes are worth the effort of remaking.
HOWEVER, it's become somewhat of a recent trend to remake dramas or movies that are really well received in other countries, down in the Philippines. The remakes aren't exactly horrible, and I understand that some people may or may not like it. Although, I would like to raise the question of why shows should be made almost exactly like how the original is shown? When it comes to that point, it's no longer remaking... its more like copying... I think.

We all know that the dramas being remade are from different countries; and different places have different beliefs, backgrounds, and cultures, so it only proves to be difficult to copy every single thing. If things are just made exactly like how it was from the other end, then some things may not make much sense or it may just end up appearing totally silly.

As we all know, it's tough to accept remakes/copies of things that are still recently loved. If it was a remake of something from 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago, why not? But if it's just something that was recently shown... then it would be quite hard to accept for the audience. There would definitely be more comparing and criticizing and even before people watch the actual show, I'm sure their faces would already look like this or worse... this, , so it would be kind of bad for those producing the show....

Don't misunderstand, I'm not hating or anything like that, I agree that remakes may also lie on how well it's done and how well the actors play it. BUT I believe that Filipinos have the creativity and the ingenuity to create something as moving and wonderful as the foreign shows being broadcasted in the Philippines. However, there seems to be a lack of faith in their own creations. If only this faith was established well with their ideas, then I'm sure that they could come up with shows that could be admired by the country and possibly by other countries as well.

And yes, I am Filipino.

PS. And I am watching the remake of My Girl too. It's not the best but . People who are living out of their country do have the tendency to miss hearing shows in their own language and all we can do is watch what's available.

I agree. I'm Filipino too, but I've actually stopped watching remakes after they kept on 'remaking' them. It's hard for me to watch something that has barely any originality to it. And it sucks on my part because it's from my own country. >/////<
