I have very strong opinions on the nationality issue. It's total B.S.
Beware of incoming rant !
If the characters are of distinct nationality's in the anime then their is no good reason why that shouldn't be in the movie. I've seen it a thousand times in movies, Europeans playing characters made for Asians. This kind of thing is way past old- been their done that. It's ludicrous on the face of it. Are we or are we not living in modern progressive times? Let's start acting like it instead of pretending.
Rant finished.

most people wouldve heard something about this by now considering evangelion is just a really good anime with a large fanbase. basic info is that gainax is giving adv films the go ahead for the movie and the sfx company that did lord of the rings will handle the cgi and evas. anyway i got no qualms about the people involved especially since gainax is still involved but there are possible changes that some fans might not agree with. One are name changes! this sparked a lot of outrage on forums wen the rei plug suit concept was titled with a different name. also and this is the biggest for me... cast nationality....im not being racist and all but wat the hell is up with changing the characters from japanese to europeans and americans? small changes to the story and some deviations are fine with me since if its the same itll be boring but changing the characters like that is a bit much. anyway how bout everyoen else?

The new zealand SFX company? Weta or whatever they're called?
Maybe they're changing them to american's/europeans because Evangelion was an international success.
Seriously, if they just keep the asian characters it will end up like every other foreign film... on the foreign film channel and no where else. Also, in NGE, none of the "anime, drawn, characters" look remotely asian or Japanese.

I just looked this up, this isn't even being made in Japan from what i've read and has a budget of 120million. Why would we want an all-asian cast in a western movie?

Probably will be a complete EVA FAIL... eva is an anime with amazing story (not ending but) so people stick to the original IT.WILL.SELL

The way it looks right now not really. This project was started around 2003 by Weta Workshop coming to Gainax. Firstly the supposed to be director before was to be James Cameron (Director of the highest grossing movie of all time, Titanic, and also an anime fan, post-production for a Battle Angel alita movie) But they had problems due to financial crisis. As I see it coming from more than a 10 year project it should be better than we think. It's scheduled for as late as 2015 for the release, and it's been deleayed since to biring movies "Narnia" etc. Although they have raised about half of the 100million they need to produce the film. So right now lets just hope and wait, fingers crossed!

P.S. Hugo Weaving would be perfect for Gendo Ikari
