Why do you think Irie Naoki prolong the pursuit for Kotoko? (and did mean things to her)

hmm.. for my opinion.. its not that Irie was too arrogant. but its him as usual. That hes a kind of guy which not granted w/ love(for opposite sex)or any feelings when he was a kid up to highschool.(I will be the same also if i grew up like that XD) So when the time Kotoko fell in love w/ him and did all to make him notice her, he just ignored her and did nothing. But because of being very persistent(Kotoko),Irie, realized how much love kotoko has been penetrating to himself(LOL) and to the point that he does love her. And "its started with a kiss" and thats the time Irie's feeling started to develop for Kotoko..(Ofcourse, there still some struggles for Kotoko, like a girl rival and to the point that she attempt to give up.)So for Irie, hes too confident taht Kotoki will not stop loving him.And when Kotoko began thinking that shes too far for Irie and really not meant for each other, she thought that Kin-chan will be her last choice as Kin-chan loves her too much.So she decided to date w/ him, everything that will make her forget Irie-kun.When Irie heard that Kotoko en Kinchan will get marry. he hurried to her. That rainy night, Irie has fulfilled Kotoko's longing dream, to be his Wife forever.

SO that's it folks.
I love to express mine..
*how relieving*

Naoki was in denial because Kotoko is the complete opposite of him..so he thought he was going crazy..my opinion

Personally I think it went kinda fast. It was pretty sudden that he admitted his feelings for her.

Here's my theory:
In the beginning he'd always been top in everything without putting much effort in and not having goals, dream or passion for life. He probably initialy rejected Kotoko cos she was an annoying, ditzy, F-class student. Then they moved in which will bring you closer to some1 as you get to know what they're like more. After he recited her love letter she slapped him and got really mad at him, he was so shocked, cos no other girl had been so up front with him.
Then there's the effort she puts in to try and make him approve her. She worked really hard at that restaurant just so she could buy him a present. He was probably touched by such caring devotion, regardless of how he treats her. Then their was the threat that she might move out of the house and he found that he actually missed her.
So basically as time passed by he started seeing her good points: her determination (which he was jealous of), she's caring (she saved Yuki, twice) and is a kind, happy person in general. He's also slow to realise his feelings, he didn't even know he was jealous, so he probably didn't realise that what he was feeling was Love until he was going to loose her to Kin-chan and he didn't want to.
Also his pride and arrogance, he probably initialy was only interested in beautiful women, kinda like Matsumoto until he realised that he preferred being with Kotoko but tried to deny it. Also when he was with Chris he was thinking of Kotoko, she makes him laugh.

I think he wanted to see how much she could take and when she tried to move on he realised that he really love her and didn't want anyone else to take her.

But if he knew that he loved her for a while before he told her that just makes him a bit of a jerk coz he was just playing with her emotions to see if she would let him go.

well, i think in the beginning, he TRULY didn't like her...but after living in the same household with her for awhile, he realized that there's more to her than meets the eye...but why did it take him so long to finally recognize his own feelings? i think it was because he never felt so strongly for someone before...and when the prospect of losing kotoko finally arrived, i think that just set off all the alarms in his head...but i'm glad that the relationship between irie and kotoko took awhile to bloom...it made the confession that much more sweeter!

some other reason: he didn't really like her at first. :)

That, and he is embarrassed about displaying affection. Once it was clear he DID like her, he still didn't act, until Kin-chan's proposal made him. I was surprsed that he agreed to that very rushed wedding.
