What ignorance!

Goth [in context] refers to a subculture of people [or the people themself] who are fans of a music genre popular in the late 70s through the 80's called "Goth Rock."

No; Marilyn Manson, Evanescence, Cradle of Filth, etc. are not goth.

Goth Rock is like The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Specimen, Sex Gang Children, etc.

It's major subgenres include Darkwave [Goth + New Wave], Deathrock [Goth + Punk], and the dreaded and often hated EBM.

It isn't about darkness and depression at all. Infact it was first called "Positive Punk" as it was a more poetic and less chaotic derivative of Punk.

It was once said that no self respecting 'goth' would claim to be as such as the title sprang from a joke and remains the same.

If you've ever been to a goth club, it's actually a quite colorful place. People from all fashions. Some emulate their favorite band's members fashion. Others wear tshirt and jeans and still others dress loud and colorful. Goth has nothing really to do with fashion at all.

And Goth has absolutely nothing to do with vampires. Vampires do not exist and if you believe otherwise you should seek some medical attention.

By the question "goth or prep", I of course mean "Do you prefer the sterotypical image of goths or the sterotypical image of preps?"

And the word 'goth' has evolved over the years to refer to a style of people - to the 'darker side'. The word 'prep' must have gone through a similar evolution. But this is 2008, therefore the word (usually) is not used to mean "Positive Punk" anymore.

But I must agree (if that was what you meant) that the gothic culture is greatly misjudged. Goths do not always wear black, like vampires, or are depressed, just like (hopefully, haven't meet one yet) preps aren't always annoying bimbos that laught hysterically when there isn't anything funny to laugh at.

A word is a word. The definition of goth [in context] has not changed. It's just been incorrectly used.

But thank you for clarifying.

What about emo?

I'm kidding. Thank you so much for not making this another thread about being emo.

They both look like tools to me.

Preps get on my fucking nerves. Too much drama shit in their department.
Stuck up bitches I swear.

I would say goth is so 90's, today it's either "Scene Kid" or "Emo".

So yeah for me it's "Rock Kid's group"; label it what you want.
