Unfortunately I'm unable to configure my modem properly... becuase it would make my wireless network crash, azureus wiki needs to be really detailed more.

So I get brutally slow DL speeds because comcast throttles it.

With Azureus just remember your getting Java. So its going to eat resources like a bad mother. If your lucky enough to be on Windows you could always use uTorrent.

The biggest criticism I have for Azureus is it hogs too much of CPU.

Hail utorrent, i used bitcomet, and azureus for downloading, but utorrent was best for me. OVerall for speed, utorrent made sure it used my connection fully (some programs dont use the internet fully meaning even if you wanted to donwload something with a 100Mbps internet, it would even be like 10 times slower than it suppose to) It also took least space in my comp (i have a laptop with only around 100GB--- ended up getting a exterior HD so dont matter lol)

Utorrent is pretty much for Windows, and of course make sure to download newest client (i found the newest version faster than the other one)

Azureus for me use a negligible amount of cpu on my comp. I don't experience it on my laptop but thats probably because I upgraded a lot of parts. I liked bitcomet but I didn't know how to configure it properly in some areas where Azureus seemed at least a little bit more user friendly in my opinion. Oh well I still get speeds in the 100s most of the time which is good enough for my connection.

I heard from my friends that torrents are jam-packed with viruses. Is that actually true because i just use torrents for anime from animesuki cause i know that they are safe and have been avoiding downloading anything else from any other site.

nah that's not true. Sure there is always the risk, but to say that they are "jam-packed" means they don't know where/how to download/use torrents.
where do you think people get the videos that are uploaded here?

It depends on your source for torrents. As with anything on the net, there's bound to be something dangerous. If you're smart and download "good quality" torrents, then you should never have any problems. Always check for the host of the tracker and see if it's legitimate. Also check the file size and type of what you're downloading. If you use common sense and check the background behind the torrent then everything should be fine.

Most fansubbers generally have safe torrents hosted on their tracker so you shouldn't worry too much with subbers with a good reputation.

Yes and no. No it's not 'jam-packed' with viruses, trojans or whatnot. But there is always a chance that there is a dodgy torrent, but so is everything else on the internet.

Every time you log on there is always a chance you'd pick up a net gnat. It makes sense to arm your computer to its teeth with small but nicely effective anti-whatever programs and a decent firewall.

Most simple way of checking whether torrents are good is read comments of each torrent at a good torrent site. If there is a virus or trojan contained, it's likely someone will leave a warning note in comments section. Plus a good torrent site usually yanks a bad torrent off its site as soon as it receives a warning note or complaint.

Before you unpack/unzip a downloaded file, do a simple 10-second scan on it. If there is a virus, bin it. If there isn't, open it.

All that said - when in doubt, don't download it. It's as simple as that.
