All theories. Alcohol is legal and its consumption is thriving as ever. I can't imagine that it would have any different effect on MJ usage. But it would decrease this drug mafia issue and make the whole scene a titbit more transparent when it's gov controlled.
I guess what annoys me the most is this hypocrisy that is involved in this matter. But anyway, I'm glad I'm not US American.

I'm glad I'm not american in any way. :P
Even though marijuana isn't legal here at all, not even for medicinal purposes, which is a suckage of epic proportions.

As I have already said.

Do a study on it, 1. Hemp has been shown to be a better, cheaper, renewable, cleaner fuel for vehicles than todays gas products. 2. Hemp can be made into higher quality plastic than any oil products, 3. Hemp can be made into paper , cloathing, and rope far cheaper, and with less harful affect to are environment. At that it has been shown to be good for the Dirt. 4. The wood and oil companies are responsible for the smear campain, and illegalisation of this would be cash crop, and medical miracle drug. ( DO TO THE FACT IT WOULD HAVE eradicated the need for both there environmentally harmful meal tickets. 5. as we know lumber and oil tycoons are the major powers running are country. (NOTHING BUT THE FACTS.) By the way Hemp has been shown to be safer for your health than caffeine and other drugs placed in are food products.

I have seen so much ignorance in this topic it's sickening. There is so much that would be debunked from a simple non-biased search. look into NORML. There is not a single reason someone should not be able to enjoy something in the privacy of their home responsibly. Not to mention it would have extremely regulated dispensaries like they do in the decriminalized states.

I would prefer it to be legalized, it would take money out of drug dealers and organized crime. What it really comes down to is the freedom to put into my body what I want. No one should have a say in that, especially if it is not harmful, sure you may argue smoke is never good for the lungs, but there are many ways to go about that such as vapors and edibles. It should however be decriminalized. I should not have a criminal record or be arrest, but in jail with potential violent offenders because I put a harmless plant into my body.

It should however be nationally approved for medical uses. It has been proven countless times to help certain conditions such as nausea caused by chemo, eye problems and things such as anxiety. If there is a natural medicine available, I would much rather take it than a pharmaceutical.

With all that in consideration why should it be illegal when it is always going to be available and people who want it are going to get it. I risk serious jail time for growing although it's for personal use and will never be sold. A small garden is not something someone should go to prison for, not jail but prison.
----

As i read more previous pages I'm actually becoming mad. Seeing thing like "destroys lives, kills the brain, escaping reality, ruins society" simply baffles me. It's obvious that some people here need to question their second grade D.A.R.E. education. Hell, question EVERYTHING. If you do disagree with someone become educated on the topic and use valid, proven, researched info to support their argument instead of making things up, assuming things or hearsay. For instance the man saying history has proven any "cash crop" is detrimental to the environment but has nothing to say on the subject of hemp being 1000x more useful than cotton. Show me the data, show me the death numbers, show be the distroyed lives. Weed nothing crack, oxycodone, alcohol and sure as hell not tobacco. Please, show me. If anyone is intrested I will provide my own fully cited collage paper dismissing all this and more including "gateway drug" theories.

Even if you don't use or agree with using. Realize the way things are now are turning otherwise law abiding citizens into criminals which actually does ruin lives but guess what, people are still getting high and they will reguardless of legality. There was an incident in FL where an 18 year old was arrested and put in an over populated jail. He was raped and contracted AIDs. Why, because he smoked a plant and was put into the system needlessly.

I agree with about 98% of the above post. There is a lot of fear and lies surrounding marijuana that is pretty sickening TBH.

But no, it shouldn't be 100% legal. It should without a doubt be decriminalized, though. Continuing to crowd our prisons with people who were carrying around a joint or 2 is ridiculous. Alcohol and prescription drugs are a heck of a lot worse for you than marijuana anyway, no matter what the after-school specials try to scare into you. The problem with it being completely legal though is that there will always be people who abuse it; the same people who give it a bad name now. I see nothing wrong with coming home and smoking a joint after a long day of work in the privacy of your own home. It really is a shame that people have been turned against something that has so many benefits. They really don't understand it, I hate to say it... but it's as simple as that.

Anyone who agrees that marijuana should remain illegal need only educate themselves as to the truth about why it was made illegal in the first place: http://legalizepot.wordpress.com/2008/01/23/why-is-marijuana-illegal/. The government has used fear to keep it this way, and people actually buy into it, sadly. Medicinal marijuana is a step in the right direction, though.

Well, it's legal in Holland and I'm against it.

* Addicting
* not being yourself
* u can do it often more then alcohol people use it like cigarets
* psychology problems
* u eat a lot food ( bad for your pocket )

And if it's getting legal like in holland the biggest drugs dealer will be the government like holland is they were pirates they will stay pirates !

Of course, but would you rather have the mafia be the dealers than have the government be the dealers?
And would you rather have people going to jail over a relatively harmless drug than getting attention more towards the people that actually SHOULD be in jail?

My irk with specifically american drugs laws is that, if i can buy a Flamethrower, grenade launcher, thermite, mini gun, anti tank rifle, a seamless amount of semi-automatic rifles, but god forbid if i decided to ingest cannabis, but that's my two-cents on it all.

I'm in between. Like the pro's of legalizing it: Calmer people, legally grow hemp (which would help a lot since you can use hemp for almost everything.), and government can put a tax on it and gain lots of money. (Which is all they want these days.) Plus they say weed users are just as bad as other drug users, its not true unless they combine it with another drug like PCP. Further more, alcohol causes much more violent crimes such as; abuse, rape, murder. While weed mainly causes people to get the munchies. Though there are some big con's: people will start wanting other drugs to be legal, taking weed while using another drug as stated above, and if not used responsibly can cause car accidents and such. I'm in the middle of yes and no. It should, but shouldn't at the same time.

All drugs should be legal. This will make the public not think much of it. Some try it because they think its so exclusive to get access to them. So if they are made legal, like smoking a pipe, itll eventually lose popularity and the tradition will die out.

this is my opinion on marijuana. Honestly, I think in small doses, marijuana is fine, just like alcohol. Take everything in moderation, and don't abuse it, just like how you shouldn't abuse other LEGAL substances like alcohol, fast food, or even gaming/internet addictions. There are MANY people who have been smoking marijuana for YEARS and there has been little to no damage done to their body whatsoever.

But even if it did do damage to your body, who are we to tell full grown adults what they can or can't do? In the end its all free choice and whatever you has its own consequences, you should research on it and make your own choices to decide whether or not to take up on marijuana smoking.
