I think calling Chinese people as Orientals is, offensive.

Well. Maybe People that live in America doesnt think the same? but I think it is really offensive.

It is like calling black people the N word. Even some black people think the word N are really offensive because of the history.

Like I said CHINESE PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE, NOT RUGS

Um... well I live in America and even though I don't hear people saying oriental a lot, I haven't seen anyone being offended at being called 'oriental' [cause there was a survey for a class being passed around, and for ethnicity one of the categories was 'oriental' no one seemed to mind]. xD I don't know really~ but to one of my friend, being called a 'fob' angered her more~

But...I always thought that was like saying you are from the Orient...

If it's offensive, I don't think many Americans understand that...

The offensive word for a Chinese person would be 'Chinc," but not many people really use that word that I know of.

that's just silly. basically you are saying white people should be offended because they are labeled a color. Caucasian would be the correct term. stop reading so deeply into everything because usually that's not the case.

What? There's Occidental and Oriental. I don't know why you find it offensive.

Ive never known anyone who's been offended by the word. I dont see how its offensive..I just figured its a more specific word when describing a Chinese, Korean, etc person..instead of just saying Asian...cuz people tend to forget that India, Pakistan, etc are a part of Asia too...oh well

i don't think it's offensive...i just hate it when people go like "ching chong" and start laughing

That is just plain silly, there is worse things to be called and I am pretty sure it is not meant in a derogatory way.
