Hmmm... if there's a point to it (i.e. it adds to the drama, it's realistically how much blood you'd get or the blood affects the plot later on, if only in a minor way), then it's all good. I don't, however, see much point in random gorefests.A point can be illustrated just fine without six gallons of tomato ketchup being thrown at the storyboard, and ambiance can be created by means such as excellent animation, dramatic music, good voice-acting as opposed to a load of red paint.

Don't get me wrong, I adored Elfen Lied and Rurouni Kenshin, and the blood in those did indeed work well (Kenshin /is/ quite bloody compared to a lot of anime - the scene where Shishio bites Kenshin's shoulder springs to mind *shudders*), but it really has to work well for it to be necessary.

No real need for gore, no real need to see all that blood splattered on the floor. Just death. Lots of it.

Though it adds impact, I don't need to see it often.

blood and death is okay

but if its a scene that completely filled with a red blood like in elfen lied,

im sick of it seriously. I dun like that kind of stuff

Even I didn't watch Elfen Lied, I can tell this is one of the bloodiest anime by the screenshots I'ved seen in websites and of course by researching in wikipedia.

I agree here. I'm not personally into the "just gore" shows like Gantz that have no interesting plot or characters, but "just gore". Elfen Lied is still my all-time favorite, Claymore is up there too, and I liked the first installment of Black Lagoon, but soured on it in the 2nd Barrage when Revi started to like killing way too much.

There is something about Anime, though, that seems to make the real gore and violoence stuff a little more tolerable. I probabaly could not stomach Elfen Lied in live-action.

wow cant believe people dont like gory animes like Gantz and such. Gantz is my all time fav but Elfen is a close second. These are my favorite kind of anime because its not your typical anime and they are so rare

Oh yeah, those three things work perfectly with anime! Not in horror movies.
