No offense to people who want romance, but I think that would be horrible. Romance would not really match the overall tone and mood in Natsume Yuujinchou. Maybe an oh-so slight hint of "deep" friendship (that may develop onto intimacy in the audience's imaginaion) between Natsume and one of the youkai/friends he meets might be appreciated, but I really enjoy this series the way it is now.

hmmm...maybe in the end? But I think this drama's more on friendship, and I kinda like it as it is.
Romance is everywhere, so it makes this anime so fresh. :] |

Nooo, I don't like that Sasada girl for Natsume.

lostty wrote: I don't think romance would really work because it would almost "damage" Natsume's character because he is meant to be a guy who feels as though he cannot relate himself to other people, which is why he is antisocial and to change that about his character would be simply just disappointing. I agree. That is indeed the whole point of Natsume's character, similar to Reiko's, always alone. But! in the later episodes of the anime (I'm talking season two here, mostly) you see him getting to know people better and hanging out with friends more. And he hasn't really been alone since he found the Yuujinchou, Sensei is always with him, right? And I count the cat since they have conversations and a dynamic relationship. I'm actually on the fence about romance. I agree with everyone, as oxymoronic as that sounds. Romance would make it too much like the other animes and subvert the theme. But I would love to see Natsume with someone coughcoughnatoricoughcoughtanumacoughcough. I highly doubt <-- that would ever happen. I think the manga and the anime will start to break apart (like way too many series) and have slightly different plots, we've already seen a LOT of fillers after all. On a very short side note, does anyone else think Natsume looks *beautiful* when he's returning the spirits names? And anyone else think his eyes are slit-pupiled like a cat's? Message me or start a thread so we don't stray away from the original topic! |

It's funny reading all the comments. I wouldn't want this anime to turn into a full blown romance but when I first started watching this show I kinda felt it would be nice if Natsume found someone who could understand him and not make his life seem so lonely. When they introduced Tanuma and he could see things my first thought was "IT'S HIM! THEY SHOULD BE TOGETHER!" and not because I'm some crazy yaoi girl, but they really had a sweet vibe when together and they both seemed kinda lonely. And since this show is all about friendship and being there for one another from the heart, them ending up together wouldn't be so far off, since to me if they ended up together it wouldn't be because they're gay but because their love goes beyond gender.

The latest episode has the introduction of Taki Tohru! It's great to see more females (which aren't youkai) in this show. And Natsume treats her pretty well, unlike Sasada. There's a reason why Sasada is so unimportant in the anime -- she moved away a long time ago in the manga and is absolutely non-existent in the later chapters. Why the animators still keep her in the show is beyond me.
I don't think a bit of romance will hurt this series, if kept to a minimum. Romance doesn't equal sickly lovey-dovey scenes, it could be as simple as a smile or a pat on the head. Besides... I had a feeling that Natsume had a crush on that Swallow-girl back in the first season, and it was slightly romantic the way he held her hand and hung out together by the tree... and Natsume even risked his life to get a yukata for her... and cried at the end when he saw the photo. You can interpret that as deep friendship but it proves that having a bit of 'romance' in this series is just fine. |

I agree (more human females!) and if the romance was slight like the way you pointed out, it would fit in just fine. Anyway... obeythefluff07 wrote: Oh! and qwilson 1864 I think you comment was so cute! I agree with it...if there were any romance tanuma would be a good choice. lol thanks. I'm sure there might be people who disagree, but there was one person who left a comment on here saying: HolyIceAngel wrote: that class prez likes him, but i dont think they match i think he would rather be gay or something I doubt he would fall in love This anime doesn't seem like somthing with romance in it lol i don't think he would rather be gay (I don't think things like that are a choice) but watching the episodes it just seems like being with another boy (tanuma) would fit him, since they understand eachother.I found it funny how my nine year old sister was watching episode 13 and when tanuma, natsume and the little fox were enjoying the festival she said they looked like a family. And for the people who think romance would ruin it by being like others, some people said "it would make the anime perverted" or "they couldn't see natsume wooing someone" I don't think it would turn out like that at all. It would probably be more of an unspoken love you could just feel by the slight interactions between whoever caught natsumes heart, after all isn't that how the show is? showing ones feelings through actions? |
