*~ lol, I fell in love with this series because it didn't seem to revolve around any romance (same thing happened for me with Ghost Hound) -- Romance seem to take away from development of the characters, so I think that its best to leave it near the end of the series when Natsume seems more "ready" I guess for such a relationship (though it can't be so out of the blue) -- but it seems fine without romance and I think its superb for a series to not rely so much on that and gives to the reader/watcher's imagination with the subtle/non-subtle interactions between the characters
~I have to admit that this is the first series that I've come across where I really don't mind whether Natsume gets with a girl or a guy (being a huge yaoi/slash fan as I am >w< ) -- the relationship between him and Tanuma and even with Natori were like little yaoi/slash triggers for me (the first time Natsume met Natori made my heart skipped a beat since I was so into the anime that it was totally not expected) BUT I am looking forward to I guess the introduction of Taki with the more female characters being introduced, and for me Sasada isn't so bad, but it doesn't look like she's going to get with Natsume any time XD In conclusion, romance is fine if it gets introduced right, but it is not necessary! I like the openness of it! ( = ^ - ^ =)~* |

I think this anime is already interessting enough.
And anyways romance and this anime don't really mix (don't hurt me if i'm wrong) |

I agree with everyone for the most part: this anime has a natural flow to it, so if romance does seep in somewhere, it'll be 'natural.' Eh, or something. Judging from Midorikawa's works though, she seems to go for the romance bit. And if Reiko got married (assuming, seeing as she's a grandmother) then maybe Natsume will have romance too... eventually.
But the anime is just fine without romance. |

No Romance is necessary... for now.
I truly love Natsume the way it is now, a story of him and the youkais !! Don't need the twist of romance in it even though I love romantic stories !!! It is great already |

NO ROMANCE!!!!!
One of the reasons this series is so good is because there is no romance. Why on earth would you want to ruin it by introducing some crappy girl that he goes ga ga over?? Honestly some people have been conditioned to believe romance should be a part of everything. When it shows up in an anime I like that's not supposed to be romance I gag and usually give up watching it >____< Midorikawa Yuuko is an awesome author and I hope she never ruins this awesome series with sappy crappy romance! : D |

I am not against romance, but I don't think it will suit natsume yuujinchou. It's just simply great as it is now. Besides, romance is present, but it's between youkai's or youkai's and humans, not including natsume of course.
If there was romance involved, it would just be like any other shoujo anime, which i've watched enough of. I watch natsume for a change in pace. I like the idea of relationships between natsume and the youkais (friendship), and so on. |

Moving forward one step at a time.

No way do I want romance in Natsume Yuujinchou!
Not that there's anything wrong with romance itself, I like it, but it seems that more than half of the shows have romance in a central role - please, please more general shows where it's not always about the romantic relationship, but the story is carried by something else! It's boring seeing yet another similar love story, after watching so many of them, the stories and characters start to blend together. Natsume Yuujinchou right now is original and different, but if they did add in some romance involving Natsume, it should be done in a very clever way for me to have any interest in it |

Then what about all of those yokai who try to take the Book of Friends by force? Or the yokai who look at Natsume and think, "Mmmm...Human", like Homer Simpson does when he sees a dounut? And "no romance"?! It's there alright, it just doesn't happen to Natsume. Although to be quite honest, in the scenes involving Natsume and Natori (aka "Lizardman")...well... This may by Fujoshi instinct or something, but I'm suprised that Natori "Hasn't" hit on Natsume yet. Back on topic... Despite my last comment, I think the show is just fine with it's current concentration of romance. But I'm OK with fan-created pairings, I'd just suggest they stay in the realm of Fan Fictions and Doujinshi. Speaking of Fan Fiction. At time of typing there's only 10-12 Natsume Yujincho fan fics on FanFiction.net. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide for those who know "Lizardman" doesn't he come across as totally the stalker type? its really creepy, and sooo funny at the same time! So is this the start of the (vaguely) NatoriXNatsume slashers in the fandom? mafiaSOUL wrote: nyzlj wrote: Don'tyou think so??? So that's pretty much incest. and more importantly... 2) Reiko's dead; so it can't happen, period. Unless you wrote a fan fiction that included a time travel element. Heh, heh...you just 'had' to invoke "A cat is fine too". To finish this off, I have this one (slightly random) thing to say... Telling from what specific other posters are typing, I guess I can identify with Natsume. I'd be nice if someone 'did' love me, but I'm not obsessed with it. Guess that's kind of weird considering I'm a girl. |
