Do torrents (I think I am leaning mainly toward u-torrent after reading this thread) work alright with Dial-Up. It is all I am able to get, mainly due to lack of funds, at this time.. otherwise I'd have Satellite net.. but that's beside the point. Currently the best dial-up connections I can hope for are, 48.0 Kbps most often, and at absolute best, 49.2 Kbps.. sometimes I reconnect again and again till I get that.. Anyways. back to the point of this.. the computer is relatively new. Laptop. will U-Torrent work alright with my internet? Or will another work better with dial-up?

torrents will take a while over dialups

even with Broadband it still can be damn slow, it depends on what torrent you went for and how much seeds it have, they also like to vary depending on how well you connected.

If you have a shitty computer !!DONT DOWNLOAD TORRENTS!!!
It will most definitely mess up your cpu.
Also if your system is unable to remain invisible. You will be sued (possibly if downloading a game) (how do I know cause a friend of mine just got the notice that he was getting sued yesterday)

(if you think that vista will save you then your dumber then a rodent)

You have to know how it works and know the client that you are downloading from is trusworthy or else you dont dowload the torrent. If you have a strong computer, I say Azeruz Vuze. Some problems can arise if your firewall is blocking stuff. Its also a fact to know what ports to open up, becaue some of the things that you are downloading can be blocked or unaccepted. To configure theses, (wether it be for torrents or games like warcraft 3 or any game that has a protection) You can just say unblock when windose promps you with the block /unblock feature, but the other way is the long and arguesk task of sorting out your ports with your 2 internal IP's and the 1 external IP and there can also be problems with the router. ALL This to say that you have to be careful with torrents. Have a good ass firewall....see: www.portforward.com for details about how to fix port problems!

Its all about the peers and seeders becaue that's how it works. If you download a file from somthinglike(ex: Limewire) It will download in a full file and it will download from a direct source. A torrent on the other hand works like a Puzzle, the more people(seeders) the more the download is going to go faster because each litle puzzle piece will download faster.

The reason it is better at night is that people go to bed but the things they downloaded will still be on the computer and if they have the program(bit torrent) on while they sleep, there is no uploading so it is easy to download from thoses people. (ex: Traffic jamm, no one gets anywhere. You go when you think there is less people) ps: there still has to be someone (peers)

For some of the more obscure torrents, it takes me 4 hours on u torrent, sometimes more, but mostly, if you're worried about stuff on your computer, just buy the dvds, or the mangas. You can also delete the torrents and not the data if it's really bothering you. I just download episodes and delete them after I watch.

For the riskier files, I save the file link, scan for viruses and spyware, and then I open it to download.
