I do both Direct and torrent download each of them has good and bad points

What's good about Direct is its speed depends on the bandwidth allocated to you but direct downloading site such as MU has a time limit for each DL if your not a premium user.

What's good about torrents is that they are everywhere. Torrent are effective for those file that are popular as the saying goes "strike while the iron is hot" Torrent depend on peers or other people as one might say. it could go as triple the speed of direct dl if you know what to do!

what do you guys recommend for guarding yourself against getting sued? Is peerguardian good?

Peerguardian allows you to block connections with certain ip address lists. So if you know what ips the RIAA is working from you can prevent them from getting your info. The problem with that is that the RIAA uses 3rd party companies, and are currently sueing many of the tracker sites in order to force them to hand over their logs. On the other hand, the tracker sites are sueing the RIAA for their use of 3rd party companies, and for their violation of the terms of service of the sites.

Alternatively you can use public proxies (make sure that you never use public proxies when dealing with sensitive items btw) or make a friend in a lawless country and get them to set up a tunneled vpn for you.

If you're nervous, don't download stuff. There's plenty of other ways to occupy your time. ftps, usenet, irc, or darknets (dcc hubs) are all decent places to find stuff.

utorrent is nice and easy on the resources.

Also, as mentioned earlier, you can use google to find torrents. A little tweak is to add ext:torrent to make sure that the file you find is a torrent, and not just a reference, as certain sites have started setting up honey pots for market research ;\.

^ You must have the wrong networks settings in your torrent client. Or you are choosing torrents with few seeders. I don't know enough about this, hence I use utorrent. It has a speedguide option so you can download with the most optimal speed.

There isn't that much to get about speed in torrenting. Upstream from seeders and peers distributed amongst the peers.

One thing you might try is increasing the number of tcp connections you have so you can connect to more peers, since the default tcp connections on windows is (I think) 10. Google for the program.

I guess one other thing that should be mentioned is that there are kind of "gated communities" in torrenting, like oink.me.uk, in which you have to fulfill certain upload requirements and be invited in order to use their torrents. These usually have nice upload speed and less feds.

There is no particular "average" speed but most newly released anime after about an hour will probably have about 200 that is if it is popular.

I can just say that torrents are awesome, and you can pretty much get anything from them. Just google the name of the file you want with the word "torrent" after it.

You're using a bad port then.

I have the same problem. I've never found a way to set up port forwarding for my computer, and it would screw my wireless. Alittle help?
