I know what mauz is talking about. I used to watch the Simpsons and Futurama. Futurama still might have life again with some movies and a new season in the next 2 years coming out. I just hope that somehow that gets the creative juices going with Groening, as Simpsons has been missing the 'it' factor it used to have. I watched some Family Guy and American Dad too. Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law was also good for adult cartoon fare.
As for other American cartoons, I'm an fan of the old shows like: -All sorts of cartoons from the Bruce Timm-Verse like Batman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, Justice League/JLU, Superman, Zeta Project and Batman Beyond -Other comics cartoons including X-men, Spiderman (both the campy one and the 1990s series), Teen Titans -video game fare like Sonic the Hedgehog (The one Jamaal White was Sonic's voice based a bit off the comics) and the cheesy Super Mario hour (Capt. Lou Albano!) and the Captain N show -Older fare from Warner Brothers like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain -Jackie Chan Adventures -Xiaolin Showdown -Reboot (Another Canadian Based Made series) -Samurai Jack (I still miss this and wish they would end it properly) -Older 80s fare like He-man, GI Joe, Transformers (loved Beast Wars which came later), Thundercats, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Care Bears, The Raccoons (a fun Canadian series but we're a part of North America too )-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (mainly the older series) -INSPECTOR GADGET! -Older Disney shows like Aladdin (the BEST movie adaptation to series ever), Tail Spin, Ducktales, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles (a REALLY good series until the end), Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck I also currently still follow Avatar: The Last Airbender, a wondeful show for all ages, and occasionally the Batman, which had its downs and no association to the Timm-verse but has now come along on its own, ditto on Legion of Superheroes. Cartoons are still a part of my life, and anime adds to it. |

I really liked the Spiderman series of the 90s, Justice League, Xiaolin Showdown, and Avatar the Last Airbender. They were pretty well executed in their time. Spiderman has to be my all time favorite though. I can't stop loving it.

Futurama is at the top of my list. It may be old, but it's still funny.
Other than that Freakazoid will always be funny to me and Zim is also a great show. Oh, Geeze! How could I have forgotten Reboot? Thanks from reminding me Trigunkwan! |

I love all of the old Nickolodeon and Cartoon Network Stuff (I miss my Cartoon Cartoons...) most of the shows today just aren't as good as the greats like PowerPuff Girls or Dexter's Lab or Angry Beavers. I especially liked Doug (the original one where he has short sleeves). Sure animation is prettier now but quality of story has gone down. Favorite american cartoon of all time has to be The Simpsons followed closely by Samurai Jack and Family Guy.

I want American cable.
I stare hypnotically at the TV when I visit the U.S.I used to love Dexter's Lab, Rugrats, Scooby Doo, and Grim and Evil (now showing here as The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Dr. Evil is completely cut off.) For current cartoons, I really like Jimmy Neutron, Fairly OddParents, Dave the Barbarian, Family Guy (Stewie!), Futurama, and Danny Phantom. They are some of the few remaining shows here that have good animation, fairly decent plots, do not focus on "school heirarchy", and do not try to copy anime. D: Spongebob fits those categories too, but for some reason I just find Spongebob annoying. Western cartoons that copy the Japanese animation style are just annoying! They appear that they try too hard, and only incorporated anime elements to gian a wider audience. Whenever I go channel surfing, cartoon channels generally have these types of cartoons. One show was clearly Western, had bad animation, a ninja theme, and used TOO exaggerated anime-style facial expressions up to the point that it was just ridiculous. More of these types of cartoons are sprouting. But when whe those elements are used fairly well, like Martin Mystery, they can have a pretty decent series. (Though it isn't exactly American.... ^-^;)I rant. |
