Great Temple of Caerleon Medb

The Great Temple of Caerleon Medb (ギャリオン・メイズ大神殿) is a Lost Ground located at Θ Hidden Forbidden Sacrament. It is also called "the End of the World", and has the subtitle "A Thousand Nights".

The World R:2 Official Story

The Great Temple of Caerleon Medb's place in the mythology of The World is unknown.

Epitaph of the Twilight

"The End of Land" lies past the Keel Mountains. The heroes of the Epitaph must trek through it in their quest for the Twilight Dragon.

History

.hack//G.U. Games

Here is where the eight Lost Weapons were sealed. As requested by Phyllo, Antares teaches Haseo about this Lost Ground. However, Corbenik's weapon was already missing from the area, as Ovan had previously acquired it. Later Zelkova sends an anonymous e-mail to Haseo, teaching him how to use Virus Cores to further power up the lost weapons.

Each of the Lost Weapons has a Sealed Beast that protects it, adopting a title that is opposed to its respective Phase. For instance the Beast that Guards the Lost Weapon of "The Prophet" is titled "The Uncounseled".

Trivia

* "Caerleon" means "Fort of Legions", and "Medb" means "mead".
* With one room for each phase, Caerleon Medb is the second largest Lost Ground in terms of accessible space, after the Land of Sins Ran Badhi.

"Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground. It's a place of destiny."
— Crim —

Hulle Granz Cathedral or Grima Raef Cathedral (グリーマ・レーヴ大聖堂) is a field located at Δ Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground. It is one of the Lost Grounds, and may have functioned as a Root Town and a minor event location in Fragment, the beta version of The World. Hulle Granz is a unique field, in that it consists only of a small island with a large cathedral in the center located in a lake of mist. The area's Fragment keyword was "Navel of Lake", and it is said to be an important place from the Epitaph of Twilight. Hulle Granz is the site of many important events in both Project .hack and .hack Conglomerate. Its name means "That Which Hides Heaven."

Epitaph of the Twilight

Hulle Granz Cathedral, located on the island at the "navel" of Alba's Lake, was already ancient beyond memory when the King of Light, Apeiron, and the Queen of Dark, Helba, met there to forge their unlikely alliance against the Cursed Wave in the opening scene of the Epitaph. It is also where the combined armies of Light and Dark, along with an army of humans, made their last stand against the Cursed Wave, since it was said that the Twilight Dragon would come here once it was found.

Fragment

In Fragment, Hulle Granz was an area known as Navel of Lake. Unlike its future incarnations, the lake around the island was filled with water during this time. Rumors spoke of a strange upside down man who would appear and talk to people inside of the cathedral.

The World R:2 Official Story

Hulle Granz is where humans trapped the Goddess of Light, Aurora.

History

.hack//AI buster

The Cathedral is the site of many important scenes in AI buster. It is the place where Albireo first encounters Lycoris, and where Lycoris ultimately allows herself to be deleted by him. Chronologically, this is also the first location of AI Harald.

.hack//SIGN

The Cathedral in SIGN.

During SIGN it is revealed that the Cathedral is the location of the fabled Twilight Eye. Using a Fairy Orb or a similar spell causes the eye to open, revealing a secret extension to the Cathedral's bridge, and a red Chaos Gate which teleports people to The Inverted Castle, where an AI Harald is located. These hidden elements were removed by administrators near the end of SIGN. Tsukasa spends some of his time here, and uses the Cathedral as a place to show off the Guardian given to him by Morganna. At the end of SIGN, the Cathedral marks the place where the battle to free Aura began, and where Macha sacrificed herself in order to protect Tsukasa.

.hack//ZERO

In ZERO, the Cathedral serves as the primary location for interactions between Carl, Sora, and Aura. It is one of the only places in The World that Carl really likes.

.hack//Games/.hack//Another Birth

Several major events occur in the Cathedral during the Games timeline. After being killed by a Data Bug, Kazu fell into a coma. Since BlackRose had selected the Area Words for him, she felt guilty and decided to play the game to save her brother. This is also where Kite activated the Book of Twilight and gained the ability to Data Drain.

.hack//Legend of the Twilight (manga)

During Legend of the Twilight, the Cathedral is the area where Shugo receives the Helba Key from Kazu. In his attempt to escape to Net Slum he is stopped by the Cobalt Knights. Ouka and Kazu team up against the Knights, led by Magi, in an attempt to buy Shugo time.

.hack//Roots
The area appears much as it did in the Games, with the exception of the altar, which no longer bears a statue, and instead features a Tri-Edge's mark where the faded inscription about the phases used to be. Shino takes Haseo to this area, and tells him about the statue that used to be there. While searching the area for Virus Cores, Tabby and Sakisaka fall into a glitch in the wall, become stuck in a glitched area, and are forced to reboot. Later, Shino is attacked by Tri-Edge and placed into a coma, causing Haseo to swear vengeance. Haseo returns to the area several times over the course of Roots, and it becomes a place for his supporters such as Tohta to meet him. He later encounters Tri-Edge in the Cathedral and attempts to fight him, but Tri-Edge is much too powerful for him and defeats him easily, apparently destroying Haseo's character with a powerful Data Drain. Unknown to both the fighters, Saburou was watching the fight from a hiding place and spreads news of Haseo's defeat to the players of The World R:2.

hack//G.U.+

Haseo returns to the Cathedral to confront Ovan, asking why he disappeared for so long. Ovan dismisses him, saying that Tri-Edge will be appearing shortly. Ovan leaves, and Tri-Edge appears afterwards. Haseo tries to fight him but loses, his character destroyed by a Data Drain. Later a resurrected Haseo returns to Hulle Granz and is teleported to the Dead World of Indieglut Lugh by the Sign located on the altar.

.hack//G.U. Games

After receiving a tip from Ovan, Haseo finally encounters his hated enemy "Tri-Edge" here. Haseo brutally attacks him, but finds that all of his attacks are rendered useless. Using a strange Bracelet, the mysterious figure defeats Haseo and reformats his character data back to level 1. Later, following a post on the BBS, Haseo meets Piros the 3rd here. Much later, after fighting against Ovan, Haseo returns here with Atoli. The two begin to talk about recent events, but are interrupted when Ovan mysteriously reappears and confronts them.

Following the "Rebirth" and the reappearance of Cubia, Haseo travels to the Cathedral with Yata and Aina in an attempt to contact Aura. As a remnant of the black box system, the Cathedral is the only place in the game where this can be done. Utilizing the power of all eight Phases and the Book of Twilight, Haseo is able to open up a connection to Aura using Aina as a catalyst. In response to this, the Azure Knights appear and fight against Haseo and Yata, stopping their assault only when Aura tells them to hold.

After defeating Cubia, Haseo receives an e-mail from Shino telling him to visit the Cathedral. Inside, he finds Shino waiting for him. Atoli arrives too, having been invited by Shino as well. When she sees Haseo and Shino together she runs off in embarrassment. Haseo, with Shino's blessing runs off after her.

.hack//G.U. Trilogy

During the movie, no significant difference is made compared to the .hack//G.U. storyline. The events follow Shino falling into a coma and Haseo being defeated and Data Drained by Azure Kite. Towards the end, Haseo is seen standing side by side with Atoli in the Cathedral rather than Shino.

.hack//G.U. Games

Hy Brasail is where Haseo is crowned Emperor of the Demon Palace, and later the Holy Palace. During the first ceremony, Ovan tells Atoli about Shino, and convinces her to go off on her own to prove herself to Haseo.

Land of Sins Ran Badhi

"I guess it's not just an area you go to for fun."
— Phyllo —

The entrance to Land of Sins Ran Badhi.

History

.hack//Roots

The event consisted of a large forest filled with powerful monsters that would ruthlessly hunt down and kill any player who entered the forest. Due to the strange way the event just appeared it was rumored that the event had been created without the consent or knowledge of CC Corp.

Wanting to prove his strength, Haseo entered the event by himself. Along the way he encountered Saburou who had been sent to monitor him by Pi, and Taihaku, the Guildmaster of Icolo, who was also interested in proving his strength. Both Taihaku and Haseo succeeded in reaching the center of the field, where they found a hidden AI Harald. Taihaku was rewarded a unique and powerful weapon by Harald, while Haseo had his Edge Punisher and Flick Reaper Adept Rogue forms forcibly unlocked. The event closed shortly afterwards, and the field started to erase itself only seconds after Haseo left. However, as later seen, the field survived, albeit missing large chunks of data.

Concept art for Land of Sins Ran Badhi.

.hack//G.U. Games

The event was mentioned in one post on the rumors board when a player asked about it only to find out that area had been sealed off and deleted. Its existence spawned rumors that people killed in the forest became Lost Ones. Later, Haseo participates in it once again.

The entrance to Land of Sins Ran Badhi.

A pathway in the Forest of Pain.

Trivia

* The event was called the Painful Forest in Roots, and Pain Forest in the Japanese version of the games.
* "Ran Badhi" means "Bath of Ran", a Norse goddess.
* Ran Badhi was misromanized as Ran Hati in .hack//G.U. Redemption.

Sugar Mansion Sif Berg

Sugar Mansion Sif Berg (糖蜜の館 シフ・ベルグ) is a Lost Ground located at Θ Hidden Forbidden In Heat.

The World R:2 Official Story

Sif Berg is where the three goddesses who control desire in The World reside. By opening and closing the door of the storehouse, they increase and decrease the amount of desire in the world.

Epitaph of the Twilight

The role of Sif Berg in the Epitaph of the Twilight is unknown.

History

.hack//G.U. Games

Piros the 3rd confronts Haseo here for a second time, again confusing him with Tri-Edge, despite already knowing him.

The Tri-Edge sign in Sif Berg is also used as a 'back door' to access Moon Tree's headquarters in the event which Sakaki betrays Zelkova.

Trivia

* Sif is a Norse Goddess with hair of gold, and this Lost Ground's name is said to mean "The Golden Maidens."
* In the Japanese version of the games, this Lost Ground was referred to as the Molasses Mansion Sif Berg, but this was changed to "Sugar" in the U.S. release. The keyword was also a more gender-neutral proverb in the original Japanese.

The Creator's Room

The Creator's Room (創造主の部屋)
is a mysterious, blank white room existing within The World and The World R:2, with a wooden chair in the center. Its precise purpose is unknown, but it has been revealed to be a both a Lost Ground and one of Harald's Rooms.

The World R:2 Official Story

This room's role in the official storyline, if any, remains unknown. Because it cannot be monitored from the Serpent of Lore, it seems unlikely CyberConnect would have felt the need to devise an explanation.

Epitaph of the Twilight

This room's role, if any, in the Epitaph, remains unknown. Unlike the other Lost Grounds, however, this may not be an area from the Epitaph.

The Creator's Room as seen in G.U., damaged by Tri-Edge. Ina sits on the chair.

History

.hack Games/.hack//Another Birth

Orca of the Azure Sea, in his search for the truth behind the odd occurrences within The World, was the first known player to discover the Creator's Room, at the bottom of the dungeon at Δ Lonely Silent Great Seal. Kite and BlackRose, trying to acertain Orca's fate, visited this area after learning about it from Linda. There they discovered a room that had been eaten away. All that remained was part of a chair and Epitaph ?, a corrupted fragment of the Epitaph of Twilight that had been rendered completely unreadable.

.hack//G.U. Games

The disappearance of Aura and the onset of the AIDA caused distortions within The World R:2. These distortions opened up another path to the Creator's Room, via an Outer Dungeon connecting it to Σ Immersed Crime's Paraphrase. Aina accidentally discovered this path and brought her brother Ovan there. It is unknown whether the room was repaired or if this was simply a mirror of the room that Kite saw, but it was in better condition when Aina discovered it, filled with countless books, one of which contained the entire existing text of the Epitaph of Twilight. However, this was also one of the first areas in The World discovered by AIDA, and the first known place that AIDA<Tri-Edge> emerged. It attempted to attack Aina, but instead infected Ovan, who transformed her into a Lost One and carved the first Sign onto the room, separating the chair from the rest of the ground. Haseo eventually confronted Ovan here, destroying Corbenik and allowing him to release his "Rebirth" ability throughout the Internet, destroying most of the AIDA.

Wailing Capital Wald Uberlisterin (嘆きの都 エルド・スレイカ) is a Lost Ground located at Θ Hidden Forbidden Hades.

The World R:2 Official Story

Wald Uberlisterin is the underworld that exists below Indieglut Lugh. Cernunnos, the god of death, resides here.

Epitaph of the Twilight

History

.hack//G.U. Games

This area is where Pi teaches Haseo how to use Data Search and enter Outer Dungeons.

Trivia

* Wald Uberlisterin's name in the Japanese version of the game was "Elds Leika", which means "The Deceiver of the Forest" in Old Norse (as Wald Überlisterin does in German). However, this name may also be read "Eld Sleika", which means "Faint Flame" in Old Norse, and seems to correspond to the official subtitle given for this area.
