here's my take on fdramas, one thing i don't like is that the storylines are so predictable. over the years you get the same old concept, poor-rich-revenge-love on the side story, its tiring! (just to be honest). lately i'm leaning more and more to other foreign soaps than to our local ones (by the way i am a filipino). its just that i RARELY see them coming up with very good stories that audiences would really like to see, although the same old concept clicks to the public because majority of the population are lower middle class to poor class, so i think they can very much relate to the story lines that writers come up most of the time. i myself can say that i don't have a favorite "pinoy" drama because there's none that had made an impact to me as an audient, i could say i grew tired of it.

when will be the day that our local tv networks can come up with amazing drama concept? something that can match or maybe even exceed those like PRINCESS HOURS, HANA KIMI, THE DEVIL etc. because lately the trend is they import foreign dramas and just dub them in tagalog. and they're very proud of the ratings they get from these shows. it just comes to show that we have to rely on other nations shows just to gain audience popularity. its not that i have anything againts foreign shows, believe me i'm a major kdrama/tdrama fan. anyway, to all filipino writers, better come up with something great! you need to keep up...

*what i wrote above are just my opinions, if i have offended anyone, my apologies :)

OH YES PLEASE MAJOR CHANGE. i hate the filipino entertainment. yeah i am filipino who gives a shit. i hate i hate it. they worship their actors and actresses like gods they make movie stars have a singing carrer when they suck at singing.........

ok drama....its the same shit over and over. same plot and same everything. same actorsotrs and actress. their dramas are so cheesy like for 4 year olds. they never come up with good plots. i'm basically judging this off the ABS CBN dramas i heard marimar was desent but theres other 5 times better. filipio entertainment needs to get a punch in their face to tell them they have a lot of work to do.

~~~~~~please filipinos bring on the hate mail. i am filipino so i know you will hunt me down now
so, you quoted my opinion so filipinos can hunt you down? crap! get a life dude! if you want to be sarcastic about this topic then why not mail your sarcasm to the writers? you're just looking for attention.. and please don't quote me again if you are going to say none sense things.
this is not a WAR ZONE!
we are sharing our ideas/opinions about the topic here.. we are not FINDING a FIGHT! so typical_friend show/tell your pains somewhere else! stop provoking us! dont be too sarcastic coz you are dealing with people who may or may not have the same opinion as yours! be more open-minded! if dont then quit writing stuff here! DONT GIVE ME YOUR ATTITUDE COZ I ALREADY HAVE MINE!
on the other hand, i slightly agree with grumpy_killua but how would you apply the changes you are saying if you want the tradition of the dramas to remain? i mean, by changing the quality of the drama it would surely also affect the tradition of such thing (thats what i believe its like). average people like us would seem to think that fdramas right now are boring, draggy, etc. but i guess people lower than us find it quite interesting, easy to understand and easy to apply in real life. i assume thats also the case anywhere else in the world not only in PI. the first aim of the entertainment industry is not just to make us enjoy for nothing but for a purpose. we find other people's work (japanese,korean,taiwanese, etc) far better than ours but not in all cases. we only appreciate those that we like the most from hundreds of others that we've seen. (ive been like that) but when i recall the the fdramas i could also say that i have loved watching some of them. there are fdramas that are on top of my list too! and there are some that i hate the most! in short, what im saying is that i would prefer a small change than a major one but also affecting some parts of our tradition that we have in order to improve. changes can be easily done but without changing the roots of it then the change would be just for nothing.
too harsh to hear these words from a filipino like you. but i know i cant do anything about it. its your opinion.
somehow i agree on some of it. you are not the only one hating filipino industry. but i'll reword the "hate" instead i'll use "dont like". anyway, so what kind of change do you imply then? like not copying other stuff from other countries?
or changing everything from being draggy and long into an intelligible story that would be top rated and can compete the international market?
i really can't say that i really really liked a particular fdrama. yea i've sat on several episodes of several shows but i never really finished one til the end, i somehow ran out of interest most of the time. like i said none has caught my interest so far and another thing, pinoydramas are way too heavy on the drama aspect, i don't need too much drama, so to speak lol
This issue isn't limited to Fdramas. As any resident of the Philippines is aware of, it's pretty much the state of the entire video entertainment industry. Other genres on TV and movies suffer the same fate. They've been following the same formula for decades. Same old plot lines, same old conflicts, same old everything. We have bad writing.
But the ridiculous episode lengths of Frdamas you can and should blame the networks for trying to milk their merchandise as much as possible. This so blatant that episode previews and teasers become part of the 6 o'clock news.
i believe Fdramas are worth watching... specially ABS shows.. and also star cinema shows...
"A Very Special Love" (star cinema film)... it was awesome.. not that typical love story, or a love triangle-jelous type kind of thing, it doesn't focus on Love alone but also the acceptance of one's strength and weaknesses.... a very unique film that even Jdramas/Kdramas/Cdramas never did...
oh well! i guess that's the spice of asian dramas.. it's like food, you'll never know what's good to eat until you taste them... but once you do taste them, it's hard for you to decide which one is the best..weehee
hhmm..
i guess every drama, whether Asian, American, Mexican etc.. has a representation of their own country.. maybe that is why even if there are some changes in Fdramas there would still be an extraction of old concepts taken from past Fdramas... i dunno.. now im confused.. heehee...
Just like My Girl korea and philippines... same story and everything but there are insertions of Filipino Values in My Girl Philippines (e.g just like jasmie/joo yoo rin ->the pinay character stretches out the importance of how she loves her father that much, etc...)
i guess it's just how you value your own culture... i appreciate other countries' culture because im a traveler by heart... but above all i Love my culture..
I'm also a Filipino, and I really hate it. FDramas are very long, and it's main point is always Revenge.
