personally, I was surprised that here in the west, so many people thought the olympics were unexpected.
to people living in Beijing, things have been changing everyday the past six to eight years- everything from TV systems and taxis to roads and living districts
I remember going there on year and was like - oh, there's a nice park here
the next year, it became an artificial lake with a huge white ferris wheel on it.
a lot of Chinese were just like "bleh, what's the hype?" when it came to Olympics time.
but here on NBC, it was like the dramatic "rise of China" or something

I been to Beijing about 3 years b4 the Beijing Olympics, I never thought of putting them down, even visited the Great Wall of China, omg, SO tiring! But the opening ceremony was really awesome. China is huge and, LOTS OF people, that will a good use, just look at how many people they used in the ceremony. amazing!
