here are some websites that can help you learn how to write in hiragana, katakana, and kanji:

www.guidetojapanese.org
www.freejapaneselessons.com

i'm also trying to learn japanese myself, so i use the website www.sharedtalk.com [you have to be a user though!]
on that website, you can text chat with people around the world [including japan!] they taught me some phrases and i think it's a useful website ;] good luck with learning japanese!

i'd just like to warn anybody who is learning languages mainly from dramas.

languages usually have certain rules . like in japanese you put desu at the end, or a verb like shimasu.
or marking how many like in chinese. san GE hua (three flowers). and many types of honors in both languages. so be careful of what you are learning. chinese and japanese are strict on honoring your elders, and dramas are usually within friends, so they are more relaxed with eachother.

^^... thanks for the post.... my japanese teacher also said that once...
and every time he teaches us new words... he teaches them in a certain hierarchy...
from plain to polite to most polite..
