Peace be upon you !

I thought of posting some of UAE Dialect words and share it with Cr users.

So..

Emarati people speak their own version of "Arabic". There Dialect is a branch of the "Gulf Arabic". (1)
They are generally understood by other Arabic speakers but sometimes people find it hard to get the accent.

So here I go..

How to greet people?

1- As-salaam 3alaykum - it means "Peace be upon you."
some people like to make the first word sound longer " As-salaaaaaaam" ---> "ok its me,lol"

The reply is

2-Wa 3alaykum is-salaam- it means "And upon you be Peace."
my previous rule may be applied to last word..

what’s -3- in 3alaykum?
I will give an example to listen to and figure out the sound of “3”
The word in the example is “al-Mil3agatu” pay attention to the sound after the “L” part.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other greetings

3- 7ayyaak allaa. – Means May God give you life.

the reply is

4-Allaa yi7ayyiik- means May God give you life.

Allaa is "Allah" Muslims God.. I would understand if someone was not comfortable with it, because I dont like using other than my God's name "Allah" when I greet others

what is this -7- in 7ayyak and yi7ayyiik?
I will give an example to listen to and figure out the sound of “7”
The word in the example is “fatha” pay attention to the last sound “ha”

You could say hayyak , yihayyiik if the 7 part was hard ^^ people would actually appreciate that you r trying to learn the language ..

So lets Go to the next greeting ^^

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5- Mar7aba.- means Hello. Hi. "I guess you would like this, its super easy"

the reply is

6- Mar7abtayn.- means "two hellos"

the Fun part of this greeting that you can be generous and say :

7- Mar7aba Malyoon- means "1 million hellos"
and the reply is

8- Mar7aba MaLayeen- means "millions hellos"

You could just say "Marhaba", if the “7” part was hard.. people would still understand you ^^

Let ur imagination get wild here lol ..and say 999,999,99 hellos .. that would be weird though.

Lets stop here, ur teacher needs to take a nap.. we will continue later ^^

(1)note “copied from Wikipedia”
Gulf Arabic is a variety of the Arabic language spoken around both shores of the Persian Gulf, mainly in Kuwait, eastern and central Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and parts of Oman. Some notable characteristics that set it apart from other Bedouin dialects is the small number of Persian loanwords, and a pronunciation of k as ch ("kalb" dog, read as "chalb"); and, in some instances, the pronunciation j as y (jannah "paradise", read as "yennah").

PS. would you mind to share your Emarati words with us ? that would be gr8 !

cool!! i never thought of that b4.....

i'll help a little, but not with pronouncations, just with some words and their meanings 4 gulf ppl who understand the no.s:

When we're entering some1's house we say sentences to inform the ppl in this place:

-hod ya hal ilbait: to inform a person that ur comin inside or askin 4 permission...ppl say this casually cuz in the house there might be women when men r goin inside.

-hedda: its the answer to : "hod", n in the meanin of: come inside..

--e7dar: to call a person 2 come inside a room, a hall, a house..etc...it can be used the same way as: "hedda"...

Just words arabic ppl would not understand(not all of them oc)...:

$$ yahel: child, pl: yahal..its originally: juhaal, in arabic...

$$ '3addy....: lately becoming..

$$ sharatt: like, the same as..

$$ 3eyazz: he's tired of...he can't do (somethin) anymore..

$$ hayddy: to wait, or to be patient..

$$ yarraann: neighbors, originnally; its: jeerran..in arabic language...

$$ zooleeyeh: carpet...

$$ 3eyaal: its means: then..

@ i hope every1 enjoyed readin this.......probably write some more later..@
