People have been getting on Disney's back for this for years about this. And ultimately, after seeing the new additions to their Princess Line, I can see why we have been given Tiana (our new princess's name). Just like American Girl and Bratz and Barbies, little girls sometimes want their dolls and clothes, and merchandise to look like them - Disney is just short-footing themselves without one.

If some of you haven't noticed, despite not being a princess, Mulan has been added to the Princess line. Why? Most likely, cause she's Asian. The next princess they'll make will probably be Asian too, or Spanish if they don't have one already (my mind's drawing a blank right now).
See, by adding other candidates of ethnic backgrounds to be princesses they are essentially killing 2 birds with one stone. Little black girls can have "The Princess and the Frog" bedrooms with a Tiana doll to sleep with and politically correct folk are happy because there's finally a black princess.

And just like how black girls buy Cinderella and Ariel dolls, I'm sure Tiana will have white, yellow, green and blue fans as well.

I've known about this for awhile and I'm happy there's a black princess - it's one of those things you just expect to have in this find-your-identity and politically correct nation. Besides, why not have a black princess?

I think its a Big deal for this movie to be broadcast. I think its Wonderful AND I will tell why. Many black children will be watching this and finally get to see someone who looks like them who is royalty. Trust me, it make a big difference about the way they look at the world and it opens their eyes to see that they can be princesses just like all the other Disney princesses (Mulan, Pocahontas, sleeping beauty, snow white). Black Children need someone who they can see who looks like them. And in my AP psychology class we were watching a study on Sesame Street and how it IS important for kids to see people just like them, on tv. And I am very disappointed to see people make such insensitive comments (Who Cares, Whopdedoo) . If you want to check out this study the documentary is called THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET. But in this documentary it shows that in simply seeing characters on tv, who look like them, and doing the things that are amazing AND positive it inspires children to want to do those things too. I applaud Disney for finally making a black princess AND in the past for making princesses who are of other races and ethnicities.

i agree with you, you guys should also check out a document called a girl like me find it here------>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWyI77Yh1Gg--- on youtube. theres a bit in it where children are made to choose which dolls are the good and pretty dolls they like to play with best 15 out of 21 or something choose the white doll and which doll were bad and ugly doll. when i watch this documentary i found it sad, and very disheartening in. i mean this doll wont be the be all and end all of African American history, but its one step closer for children of colour to love respect and appreciate who they are, so yea a black disney character is called for and long over due. blacks are the second largest popular in America i believe and its taken this long?
