What are some customs/traditions/superstitions of other countries have you've learned from watching movies/dramas? pls cite from what movie/drama, if possible....

i learned that ...

japanese/koreans bow as sign of respect to their elders...with regards to sexes, who bows first? i wanna know...this is not done in other asian countries, though...

arranged blind-dates still exist in korea and that "omiai" is done in japan...(One Pound Gospel)

Hmm...well its not like tradition but its something i see in every drama. The rich parents always set their daughter/son up with another rich family to make their company bigger. I think that's like really suckish.

in many dramas like my name is kim sam soon, or green rose, people are looked down on and not pittied for having no parents. they're actually picked on.

the arrange marriage thing...the blind date thing,it is done when the guy or the girl is in the right age to get married but still doesn't have boyfriend/girlfriend(namja-chingu/yeoja-chingu) they will have this blind date...another thing is the downry(paying of money) connection to marriage...

no, I don't think that's acupuncture...
acupuncture requires poking specifc acupoints done by professionls.
In my girl, wasn't it just a blood-letting thing?

I learned that in China, the "chinese valentine" thing has just came back and now people actually celebrated the seventh day of the seventh month when the fairy and the ox herder meets across the milky way... it wasn't there 8 years ago...

This thread is quite interesting...

Ive learned that in:

Korea:
--teachers are so strict: brutally strict to their students; They hit em on the head, hit em with stick, make them stand on their desks, kneel on the floor.
--a couple who's dating celebrate their 100th day of being together
--first snow in korea is always romantic and being looked forward to
--girls wrapped their fingers with this green leaf thingy before the 1st snow and then their nails would turn into color orange.
--they have high regards for someone older than them; they call them unnnie, noona, ajussi, ajuma, oppah
--the best way to destress: a bottle of Soju and Karaoke!
--piggyback rides!!!!
--they love shaping their hands into a heart
-when in pain they lick their pointing finger place it on the tip of their nose, lick it again and place it on their nose again
-there's no better way to eat a hardboiled egg in a sauna bath but to smash the egg on hi/her own head or to his buddy's head
-public baths are so popular

Japan:
--they wear kimono and go on a date during the new year
-girls give the guys chocolates during valentine's day
-Japanese say "baka" when someone does something STUPID, say "Itadakimasu" before they eat, "ganbatte" when they are cheering someone.
-peace sign! or poking their face when taking pics
-group dates!
-after graduation the guy/girl will give his/her 2nd button *frm his/her hsuniform* to someone special *cute*
-hot spring is quite popular here<--i see more hotspring scenes in Taiwan sorry i misplaced this

Taiwanese
-they love fireworks display
-girls confess their undying love by giving a love letter or a homemade cake
-_HOT SPRING!

I know what you're talking about, it's like they just say,
"Hold out your finger"
"No!"
They grab your finger, then they just prick it
Then u feel better..........eventually
