After watching the new about how singapore women table tensi(cant spell but you know what i mean) make it into the final meaning that we will aleast get silver or gold and that mean a medal for us it is supose to be a happy event for singapore but i kind of hating how the NEWS, mintser, even Yahoo is making a big deal out of it like its the first medal singapore has even won. XX wrong singapore has won an silver medal b4 but is not like anyone care about it, its ture that there was years ago even way b4 i was born and now singapore is happy will a new medal YA but pls think back this is not the first one we get so stop making it like it the first medal we ever won

I need to understand this new medal was bought from the PRC government...

To the politically inclined, it is significant because it is the first medal the police state (sorry I meant city state) has won since independence.

Perfect opportunity by the party in white to politicize this artificial sporting achievement. Meticulous attention to detail I'm telling you... every main stream media space you can find will now sing praise for the athletes. What will the son of the despot say during the speech of the year?

Here's a summary: "Times are bad due to Macro factors and my own party's miscalculations in economic policies but we got one thing right. Foreign talent. Please support me even though my dad handed over me the mandate to rule, not the 66.6% I won in the last facade of an election"

The state controlled media is fooling no one.. unless you like your national flag as a substitute for a mop by a China import.. broadcast to all national in the world, mind you.

hmmmm? i dont really get your first line... what do you mean by "I need to understand"?
And also, "meticulous attention to detail", and the whole last paragraph.

It is true, however, that this is the first medal that SIngapore has won since its independence, i.e. as a sovereign state. As such, it obviously has its significance for the nation.
And what is wrong with foreign talent? So what if the players on the SIngapore team were originally from the PRC? So were those of the USA, Hong Kong, and those of the Australian women's side as well. Besides, you cannot only attribute it to foreign talent. The training they received here undoubtedly had an impact. Also, take a look at the situation from the player's view itself. If they had stayed in China, they wouldnt have had the opportunity to play. But now, they do.
Why should the media not sing the praises of these athletes? They deserve it. Who cares about political agendas. We won it. Fair and Square. They are Singaporeans. So what if they were from China once? So were our ancestors; and not in the long and distant past, but just a few generations ago.
And i'd like to contest the description of SIngapore as a police state. Why would you say that?

One more question, Mickey Toss, are you a SIngaporean?

hmmmm.... abt the year thing, im not too sure... haha... the phrasing... but they just want to show that our medal-less run is over... like almost half a century... so it'd be 48 or 47... whether or not they got the counting wrong, it still doesnt mean they're discounting the first silver medal won. ^^ but it is 48 yrs actually isnt it... cos if it was in 1960... then plus 48 years, you get 2008...
