I think his role as "Matsujun" makes me think he really can act LOL.

No, seriously, it is amazing how easily he can slip in and out of roles, both (1) as an actor in the sense that he is reading lines from a script of a movie or show and (2) as an actor in the sense that he is continually appearing in public as the perfect, dreamy, adorable, untouchable idol ("Matsujun"). Whereas other actors can go "off duty" and live relatively normal lives once the cameras stop rolling, as a Johnny (and especially as a member of Arashi) Jun has to work much harder than the average actor to keep up his public image. It's one thing just to be a nice and civil person offscreen, but it seems like every smile or pout (oh, the POUTS) or smirk or cutesy weird face he makes is dictated by the fangirls' whims. (After all, he IS a Johnny's Elite.) I guess it's a lot like the "Momo" thing in KWP, but instead of being some career woman's cute little pet, he's the "pet" of half the female population of Japan. XD

I often wonder how much of Jun's real personality shows through when he appears in public (probably none LOL), and this is why the boyband, idol and star system phenomena fascinate me - I don't know how people can go on playing such a manufactured role for so long. I know it was his choice to enter/stay in the business, but still. Maybe that's why he takes such interesting roles: to break away from - or at least play with - that "idol" image for at least a little while. Or maybe I'm totally wrong and he really COULD enjoy being a Johnny - I don't think I will ever find out anyway (especially since I live on the other side of the planet, haha).

Sorry if this was a bit longwinded- I have a hard time explaining it concisely but I've been thinking about this quite a bit over the past few days because I just marathoned a bunch of his stuff (HYD 1 and 2, KWP, Boku Wa Imouto, etc.)

u had our jun analysed very well.
very in depth.

good starting of an essay. lol

"but it seems like every smile or pout (oh, the POUTS) or smirk or cutesy weird face he makes is dictated by the fangirls' whims."

that's good. i like him that way. he's playing right into my heart.

MatsuJun has some really unique roles in his dramas.

He always plays a different type of role, which really proves his good acting skills. He's not just looks, he's got talent too^_^

People seem to be missing the point that the original list was of his CONTROVERSIAL roles. It didn't "forget" the other things he's in, they just weren't the point. It's not a videography.

the roles you've discussed are just proofs that he is a great actor.
he can do many roles and actually be able to pull them off.

remember that flexibility is important in acting. it will really help the actor to make a name for himself in the industry. ü

The OP also used the word INTERESTING, so I think people brought up the roles they liked best (which would explain why most people are mentioning HYD) instead of what they found provocative. I've watched a bunch of his drama/movie stuff and still think his role as an idol is his most interesting... but I already went in-depth on that :)

Jun-kun is definitely one versatile actor, so charming and kawaii! First came across him when watching Gokusen, I was quite impressed. After that, a dose of MatsuJun was required on a daily basis..hehe.... He always portrays 110% of his characters - from attitude to gestures. He can also express emotions through his eyes. His glares are dangerous, I tell you!

Some of his projects have themes which are not typical for a young, rising star. Both Kimi Wa Petto and Gokusen have love interests who are supposed to be older than him while Tokyo Tower the movie has an erotic bathing scene. He even appeared in An-an without any qualms even if this may negatively affect his carrer. In I Love My Younger Sister, incest was something to gape about and in The Last Princess, he appeared as a sort of bum. In his latest project, Myu no Anyo Papa ni Ageru, he is someone who battles a sickness which takes away the use of his legs, but the crunch is that he is a young father here. A Father!....My Matsujun is too young to be a father! Hehehe.

hey umm u mentioned "myu no anyo papa ni ageru"
by the way wen is it gonna get released
or is it still an under going project 4 matsumoto jun
