The Megane character holds a couple molds
one is the solemn serious and intelligent type
this type is usually black haired, cool attitude, and calculating
this also most common amoung guys, but can be seen in both genders
the girl will usually have braids
The other type of personality is that they are very clumsy, and air-headed
usually the Moe look, large breasts are usually common in this stereotype
It's generally rare for a glasses character to be very active in sports
archery, chess, computers, and reading tend to be the most common activities
most anime characters are made to fit a mould
there has to be a small twist but that is also part of the cliche
If you look at any anime character it's not too hard to classify them, but that's part of the reason they sell
if it strays too far from the social paradigm people won't enjoy it.
maybe about a third of the time glasses = intelligence
most of the rest it's used for Moe, and a bit for comedy

well i think, it represent smartness "sort of". but it doesn't mean same all the time, but if they are. it depend on a person how they use their smartnes. like aizen in Bleach, he wore glasses and he was clever

Glasses are also used as symbol like hair color.

It can be used as:
Intelligence
Popularity
Handicap(those characters are often really clumsy)

I guess I forgot 1-2 characteristics.

I think that character that wear glasses are classed as smart eg ishida uryu from bleach, he wears glasses and is very smart. however when u watch anime like deathnote, no-one wears glasses but they are all super smart.

No. If people stated that strawberries meant cows, would you believe that? I sure wouldn't.
A nerd (in academic areas) is someone who is devoted to intellectual/academic pursuits. A nerd can be smart, but a nerd may also have a low supply of intellect. While a genius (academicly) means someone who has a high IQ/intelligence. There's a difference between the two.

you ARE a ginius i would believe it (jk) whaha you are right xD
