oh, please! stupid western media.

When they became gymnasts, they already know this, and agreed to it. China have a different mindset when it comes to things like this, the west might see it like oppression, "oh the girls are being forced to work everyday, blah blah, they don't get to see their parents, " It's an honor to represent China in the Olympic, they know this. There are nothing greater to the parents then to see their daughters become a national hero, so what they don't get to see their parents, a lot of athletics don't get to see their parents for months. Stop making stupid thread like this.

dude, i've been there, the government sucks, they don't care about the people.

but American needs to learn something called fair play and being a good sport.

---------------

This is what the average Chinese person goes through, and it's been like this for ages, it's not fair.

but as soon as something like the Girls won gold. the good old yanks decide to take interest and start blabbering on about this and that, well the truth is, thats how it is...it's hard.

*Rolls eyes* The "free" media lies since they
re allowed to say anything they want, so they're just "saying" they're under 16. Anyways, 1 year isn't that long, lots of people don't see their parents for way more than just 1 year when studying abroad.

Just so that everyone knows the official Olympic rules on age: An athlete may compete as long as they are turning 16 in the Olympic year, meaning that the last date on which someone could have been born and legitimately compete in these Olympics was 1992.12.31...

And the media doesn't target any specific nation, it just reports on what sells...Hell, in the world media if there was a default target though, it probably would be America...China's just feeling the "love" of the free press atm... ^.^

Meh, it's a harsh training, but the training is as well very harsh in Europe....the trainers are terribly evil ;( But if you want to succeed in that sport, then you've got to invest a LOT of hard practice into it, which will as well include pain, and not much contact with the outer world.

I am not sure how far the Chinese take it with their harshness when it comes to perfect someone's skills. But I do know that they work hard to avoid to fail....
But looking at it from a humanitarian aspect...they are mere kids, and they should be allowed to enjoy their childhood.

Steph, you aren't citing Communism as to what angelseraphim was referring to...He was referring to "Communism" as in Marxism. If you read "The Communist Manifesto" (I had to for a Sociology class), you'll find that Marx advocates for an almost Utopian society. Yet, as we all know, Utopian societies are merely nice little fantasy worlds that have no place in reality. What Communism became due to the 1918 Communist Revolution in Russia was in fact a bastardization of Marx's principals. Communism became a violent extremist ideology that advocated violent revolutions, purges, and oppression of the people. THAT is what it became due to a certain few individuals, but that is not what Communism is as an ideology...

Anyways, angelseraphim, clearly does know his history and the difference between the two and I'm sure that you do as well... ^.^ ...Just read a bit closer next time...

And also the statement that China is not "Communist" is also correct. They are not Communist in ideology or in practice. They are not Maoist, Stalinist, Lenninist, or Marxist. China is an authoritarian government ruled by one party and yet they allow the people free elections at local levels, a free economy, and a somewhat free media (though there are clearly state-controlled aspects). China is in no sense of the word "Communist"...

China's been doing this kind of shit ever since they found out the Olympics were being held in Beijing, China prob has been doing it before but they did it a lot more when they found out about the Olympics in Beijing. Must be a pride thing -shrug- but I must say those kids are going to grow up to be really strong people if they can survive this kind of shit at such a young age, or traumatized... lol

I've been to China many times and I've heard this straight from the people of China, I don't listen to the stupid media cause it's mostly over exaggerated and bent truth. This may seem harsh to others but this is actually quite normal in China, they just do things differently to achieve the same goal as others.
