well, that depends on the 3d fighter in question. stuff like soul calibur and tekken are more of button mashers, but games like virtua fighter are a lot more technical. the more technical ones don't tend to do well in america.
my problem with 2-d fighters is they usually just turn into a contest of who has memorized the most special moves, the actual fighting isn't much apart of them anymore. |

I think they are pretty even. 2D has it's share of great games, and so does 3D. But for every great 2D or 3D fighter. There are about 5 horrible ones.

I think that depends too. Because 2-D's are generally sidescrollers, but so are some 3-D one's. Clear it up more.

I kind of like the enhanced 2d. Where you can sidestep into the 3rd dimension...and travel though time and visit the dinosaurs and stuff.
![]() Not too many of those games though, and street figher will remain the best. |

Xrn_the_Nigma wrote: I really don't agree with that at all..... Many 2-D fighting games were not all that hard to play and you would have to be an idiot to consider these challenging........Examples of this are Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, The Guilty Gear series, Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2....... For the 3-D fighting games, a few of them are a bit challenging to play which an example is Virtua Fighter: Evolution and 5......Many such as Tekken, Battle Arena Toshinden, Bloody Roar, Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur are simply button-mashing games in which you can most likely devastate your opponent by pressing any combination of buttons at random..... mortal combat is the worst, and hardest fighting game ever |

I love both genres. Yes I started with 2D fighters like the whole Street Fighter series (Alpha 3, Hyper Edition and Third Strike being my top favs) to the SNK games (Samurai Showdown my fav) to even fanmade ones (for kicks, try the Powerpuff Girls Manga game on Newgrounds, or if you find it games like Melty Blood and Comic Party Fighter are quite fun). I also played 3D, favs being the Tekken series, Soul Calibur series, and Rival Schools. Yes each can have their own 'button-mashing' or 'memorizing moves' pros and cons, but I find they both can be fun to pickup for new people, or can also become a strategy contest too for more advanced players. I've hosted and watched fighting game tourneys for both 2D and 3D fighters and they can easily be a great crowd draw and a marvel to watch the one on one aspect of gaming, something a bit lost with more multiplayer games coming out these days. I hope both 2D and 3D fighting games get another wind and rise in the gaming world again. Newer games like the new Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter games are helping towards that.

2D is easier cause there are only four ways you can go. left up down right. but in 3D you can go anywhere. i would have to say 2D.

I'm going with the tie. There are bad 2d's and bad 3d's but they've tied with me...
