Post Reply Would you become a Lolita who wears the fashion regularly?

Would you guys wear the Lolita fashion regularly? You might always say "OF COURSE! I LOVE LOLITA!" but think carefully, would you really?

Are you tough enough to handle the stares you'll get?
Are you willing to get comments from people, whether they are good are bad?

BE HONEST

No one will bash you if you prefer not to wear Lolita (And of course no one will bash you for wearing Lolita, that would be stupid because this is a Lolita group). And I won't even know what you voted on =)

Well, if you comment and say what you voted on then yeah I'll know.

No one will bash you unless you joined to spread your hate of Lolita.
THEN people will bash you =)
(Me included ^^)
And then you'll probably get deleted off the group =P

Anyways, for me, I might wear Lolita. I'm not fond of people staring (I'm one of those people who care about the way they dress and how people react to it) but if I'm mentally prepared enough I will. Just gotta work up the courage and that "I-don't-care-what-you-think-so-go-ahead-and-stare-at-me" attitude that I have sometimes =)

How about you guys?

I already do. It's the City. There's far weirder things to stare at than my frill ass. Plus, I still went around in lolita when I was still on LI. I even work in it. Just so long as I feel like wearing it, I know I'm not very likely going to ruin my clothes and that they're clean, I'll wear lolita and I'll wear it wherever.

As I had expected, so many yeses.

I dunno, when I actually found stores with lolita dresses(in Hong Kong), I was excited but I was nervous about buying it. In the end, I didn't. See, as much as I love lolita, I'm not sure about wearing it everywhere.

Honestly, as someone who wears lolita often in public, it is impractical to wear it everywhere. Unless your daddy is made of money, or what not, I'd advise against it. If you do a lot of walking in hot weather, it can get pretty gross to wear a fully frilly outfit (even with a parasol), so you either have to break "rules" of lolita, suck it up or entirely go without the lolita that day. Most western lolis, myself included, just break a few rules, like going without a petticoat or with a very light one, going sock-less and so on.

There will be places you absolutely don't want to expose your clothes to, not for fear of what people would say, but for the sake of your clothes. Example; concerts. Some bands have a pretty chill fan base, and your won't have fear for your brand (or even off brand) getting torn up in a mosh pit or having beer spilled on it. Most concerts won't give you the luxury, though. Many concert venues, especially urban ones, have a bar, which means booze. If you're lucky, most people will only be having beer, but even that can stain. Mixed drinks are rather abundant when someone really wants to get hammered, and these usually involved darker colored hard liquors and juices.

Certain jobs will also make it either impossible or inadvisable to wear lolita. If you handle too much manual labor, I wouldn't wear it. I work in a book store, so it's kinda ok to wear lolita there. If I know I'm going to be handling a lot of boxes of stock, I probably won't wear it, but I'm normally ok to don my lolita clothing. Had it been one of my earlier jobs, I wouldn't do it. My first job was at a movie theater: I had to make popcorn, clean up the bathrooms and serve food to customers on most days. I would never allow my lolita clothes to come near that. I had butter stains and soda syrup all over me on busy days and still smelled like popcorn from my coat being not too far after working and changing clothes and washing up. My second job was an an offic supply store. We had a dress code where we could only wear blue collard shirts and khaki pants or skirt. I know some very clever lolitas that could get around this dress code if their boss was pretty cool, but I doubt that I would have gotten away with it, even if I could manage getting these items as lolita pieces.

I know exactly what you're trying to say Cer.

What I'm saying is that, although you might always think "I would totally wear lolita if I could find it." they might not wear it, or even buy it (like I did) when they actually find a store. See, my thoughts were the same as the people here. I always thought "Omgsh, if I ever find a store with lolita dresses I would TOTALLY buy them~ I wanna be unique and I love the fashion!" I ALWAYS thought that. I was so convinced that I would wear it. But when I was actually faced with a store that sold lots of lolita dresses, I started to change my mind bit by bit. And like I said before, I ended up not buying it. But like what I voted for, maybe if I work up the courage and such, I would wear it.

Or, you know, WEAR it, and just not post pictures to the freaking internet so it can be deemed "not lolita".

ALSO, THE TITLE BUGS ME.

DRESSING LOLITA EVERY DAY =/= BEING A LOLITA.
Someone could wear some really ugly lace monster with hooker heels every day, bu,they aren't a lolita.
Being a lolita means you do the fashion right. Be it one time, be it every day. Lolita = doing the fashion right.

I've posted them and never been called on not being lolita for compromising a few rules so I don't die from over heating. I've also seen others do the same on daily lolita and not get called on it. So long as it isn't a matter of one too many rules being broken so that you can't even recognize it as lolita and you don't abandon modesty, it's ok.

We get it. You're a stickler for the fashion rules. You don't want newbies to make typically newbie mistakes like you did. That doesn't give you license to jump down the throats of more experienced lolita when they mention that they've broken a couple of rules. We're not all going to let ourselves get scared stiff of what's said on egl, play it safe and wear the same damn thing, and we shouldn't be told to.

I know what you're saying about Lolita = doing the fashion right because when I was typing that, I was thinking "dressing in lolita (and doing it right) everyday". I didn't really know that dressing it one time, the person would be considered a Lolita. Well, I know it's lolita, but I'm talking about the Lolitas who dress in the fashion regularly, and of course, doing it right (now I know not to say "everyday" because now that you guys have pointed it out, I really did seem stupid of me to use that choice of word).
Sorry if the title caused misunderstanding or if it was written improperly. Hope I didn't start some sort of arguement .___.
