I'm not sure if I'll be very active around here, but I figured I could at least post an intro. It looks like the four points from the first post is the standard intro in this thread, so I'll go with that.

2. I'm male, in my 30s, and live in the USA
3. I don't know how interesting/weird this is, but I have a Ph.D. in astronomy, which isn't exactly a common occurrence.
4. I'm pretty sure I saw some anime when I was younger, but probably just saw it as just more cartoons back then. I didn't really get into anime until I was an adult and saw shows like Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Something about the shows like that showed me that animation can be made for adult audiences, and I really liked that difference from American cartoons (which in my experience are typically child- or family-oriented). I'm not big on games, but I do generally enjoy Japanese music, having come to that through anime music (if you couldn't guess).

I'm going to try to watch some of the series here that I haven't seen before, and it looks like there's a good number of them. Since I tend to marathon them, I like shorter series and complete series -- I watched School Days this weekend, for example -- so I'll see how things go.

4. The thing that got me into anime would be that I spent 7 years growing up in Japan and I guess the Japanese culture came along with that. Grew up listening to bands like Dir en grey, Malice Mizer, Downy, Pierrot and such, but I haven't listened to them in a good bit. Been to quite a few Japanese concerts while over there. Was a good time. Mainly into role playing games like FF and Star Ocean. Hit me up if you want to chit-chat with me.
