It was mentioned at New York Comic Con today that Bandai's Hayate no Gotoku DVD release will probably be sub-only.
I'd expect it will probably be released on 4 thirteen episode sets.

It better have 5.1 sound, I didn't buy myself a big screen HDTV and surround system just to hear it with 2 channel sound.

Prologic (IIx) doesn't do justice, if they want my money then they better earn it like how Genon did with their Hellsing OVAs.
It had DTS 5.1 with both Japanese and English audio, I'm not saying they need to use DTS but I hate it that most of the
English dub that has Dolby Digital 5.1 which I and mostly other people can't stand (the voice over) to switch with 2 channel stereo
sound.

Yea I know most of the animes in Japan only have stereo sound and rarely do multichannel so we don't have a choice in the matter.
Still puzzles me on why the Bluray release is also stereo also? Thought it was mandatory that they must have minimum of Dolby 5.1.

Also Bandai is known for selling their animes for higher price then any other publishers so most likely I'll wait until the thin pack is
out before I even think of buying it then my luck would have it where they release the Bluray version after I bought it.

Unless I see they're making progress with the audio end (5.1 Japanese audio) on standard dvd release with sub only then I'll say no thanks
since we all know that eventually they'll release it on Bluray format and I'm not going to double dip on a release that they barley had to work on.

As far as i know the 52 episode first Hayate no Gotoku season has plain old dolby 2.0 sound.
Considering Bandai apparently doesn't intend to produce a dub for the series, it's pretty safe to assume the chances of 5.1 surround are zip.
On the plus side I can't imagine the DVD release being very expensive, as it is a lesser known (in the US) series and will likely be released sub-only.
The logical assumption would be a DVD release consisting of 4 boxsets with an MSRP of about $50 or $60 each (you'd be able to get about 42% off MSRP at online shops like DVDpacific). Apart from Zeta Gundam's initial release i can't recall Bandai Entertainment ever releasing a series of this length in just a single boxset, so if you were to wait for a later collection release, you would probably be looking at 2 sets rather than one.

Frankly, i suspect there is virtually no chance at all of a Blu-ray release for Hayate no Gotoku. Blu-ray is rather slow to catch on in the American anime market and has largely been limited to a few higher profile movies. Only Funimation has started releasing anime TV series on Blu-ray sets. Hayate no Gotoku's appeal in the US market is limited enough that i can't imagine Bandai would risk a Blu-ray release in the foreseeable future. If you want to own the series at all i'd advise you to either wait for an eventual Japanese Blu-Ray release (they've only released the OVA on Blu-ray thusfar) or settle for the US DVD release.

Bandai idn't going to dub it. they're only going to distribute in with subtitles in the U.S. *which is totally stupid and makes me angry at them. why would the license it if they wouldn't going to dub it? y not just let funi have it so they could. stupid heads.*

You have nothing to worry about, as Bandai has since confirmed that Hayate no gotoku will be released sub-only (more or less rendering this thread useless). What does annoy me though is these sort of ridiculous anti-dub comments. Are fans really so overly sensitive that the mere thought of having one of their favorites dubbed in another language offends them? Personally, i only watch anime subbed (because i like to watch things in their original format and generally prefer the Japanese audio), but i fully understand that there are many people out there who prefer their entertainment in English.

Sure, many dubs are poorly done, but that in no way detracts from the quality of the original Japanese language version. I think the best way to look at dubs is that they make anime accessible to a much larger audience. The viewing experience may not be quite the same, but there are people who would not have discovered anime had dubs not existed.

Getting back to Hayate's American release, there's some bad news to report. Bandai's release info for the first DVD volume of Hayate no gotoku indicates a runtime of 175 min. (7 episodes) with an MSRP of $40. Frankly, that's too expensive for a non-limited edition sub-only release and i expect it will not sell well. The usual way to do a sub-only release is in 13 episode boxsets costing between $40 and $50 MSRP. As a big Hayate fan, i will still be buying the DVDs as they come out, but the rest of the DVD-buying audience would probably do better to wait for an eventual complete collection release.

Although I don't like Dubs, It all depends on how the voice actors/script turns out. I'd probably end up watching the dubs as I can do other stuff (Cause I'm a computer nerd, SC,WC,CS,MS,RO, And of course reading the 30 manga I bookmark over and over and over again.) while listening to the dub. I'd still watch the subbed versions whenever I have the time. (Watching ep 48 in season one and 6-7 and 10-13 in season two.)

Hayate The Combat Butler has recently been licensed by Bandai Entertaiment. Well it was only a matter of time... I hope they have the same announcer from Bo-Bo-Bo doing the announcer for Hayate.
