I started this story a while ago, and was wondering if yall could tell me what you think about it.....sorry if it kind of seems to run together
In the small town of Naru, the people talked about work and gossip. The next day was the Emperors Birthday, and the people were preparing for a giant celebration. The men were busy building booths for the games and venders. Women made blankets and small stuffed animals as prizes, and decorations for the vender’s booths. Even the children worked running food to the men and women.
There was only one who wasn’t working was a boy. He was young with short wavy hair. His eyes were dark as they darted around watching the people work. His cloths were dirty and ragged, filled with holes, and tears.
After a while a man walked by carrying logs for a booth or for a lamppost, which they had just started putting up every ten feet. The man stopped in front of the boy and turned to look at him.
“Damn brat” the man mumbled. “Why the hell aren’t you working like the rest of us? You think you’re special or something?”
“You want me to work?” the kid asked. “Then give me something to do,” he said with a slight sound of sarcasm in his voice.
“Brat” the man spat
“Joe what’s taking you so long?” a man called from down the street.
“I’m coming,” yelled back. Then he turned back to the boy “You go to the plaza and help build the stage”. Joe said after some thought.
“Whatever” the boy said as he stood up. The boy turned and started walking without saying anything.
“Hey kid” Joe called after him.
“What” the boy called back as he turned to see what the man wanted.
“What’s your name?” Joe asked.
“Name’s Kai” he called back
Joe then turned and went back to work. Kai turned around and continued to walk to the plaza. The plaza was in the center of Naru, surrounded by trees and little flowers; it was the most beautiful part of the town.
The stage was already under construction and looked to be coming along well. Kai walked over and looked around for someone who remotely looked to be in charge. He could not see anyone who had any plans or large crowds around him.
“Who’s in charge here” Kai finally called out.
All the men looked around to see who was talking.
“That would be me” came a booming voice from behind the stage. “Who wants to know?” the voice asked.
“Names Kai, I was sent to help” he replied.
“Well in that case, welcome aboa…” he started. “Wait a minute is this some kind of joke?” the man asked after getting a look at Kai. He was a rather heavyset man who had rolls of paper under his right arm.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Kai yelled.
“Just look at yourself your nothing more than a child.” The man answered. “You should be in the kitchens like the rest of them. Now run along and bring me some food.”
“Oh yea, give me a challenge and ill prove you wrong” Kai said sarcastically. “Give me any challenge and ill make you eat those words fatty. Not that you’d have any problems doing that without my help.”
“WHAT WAS THAT YOU LITTLE BASTARD.” The man screamed. His face was a light shade of purple. “Fine” he said with a grin on his face. “Bo brings me that log.”
A rather bulky man stepped out from the back of the crowds carrying a log that were about 30 inches across. He walked up to the man and he told him where to put the log.
“You need to carry this to the top of the stage.” The man said with a grin. “Good luck.”
“Come on Sado that’s not fair,” said one of the other workers.
“No, its fine” Kai said as he picked up the log and walked to the stage with ease.
“HOLY SHIT, that thing must weigh 200 pounds” came a cry from the crowd.
The crowds filled with murmurs of surprise and compliments, while Kai got a ladder and carried the log up to the rafters of the stage without any struggle.
“Is this where you want it old man?” Kai yelled down from the top of the stage.
“Yea that’s fine,” Sado said in astonishment
After Kai came down the men went back to work. They finished several hours later and went to their homes to eat dinner and relax. Kai just walked back to the spot where he had been sitting before, and laid down to sleep. As he slept, he saw dreams of children running around and playing while their parents watched.
One of the women had long flowing red hair; she had a fair complexion and a beautiful smile. She just sat smiling as she repeated “Kai, Kai, time to wake up.”
Kai jerked awake and saw a girl standing over him. She had short hair that fell to her shoulders, and she was wearing a white shirt and a pink skirt that came to her knees.
“So you finally decide to wake up Kai.” The girl said in a voice that was soft and full of care.
“Who are you and how do you know my name?” Kai asked defensively.
“My name is Saori, and I overheard you talking to Joe this morning.” She said
“Oh” Kai said in embarrassment.
“Are you going to the festival?” she asked.
“No, not really, I was just going to watch everyone else enjoy themselves” Kai answered.
“Well that’s no good” Saori began “you should enjoy the festival just like everyone else. You did help build it didn’t you?”
“I just want…..”
“PLEASE” she said in the cutest voice she could muster.
“Well….ok….I guess I can go for once”.
“Yay, now we just need to get you some cloths to wear.”
“My clothes aren’t that bad, are they?” Kai said as he looked down at his shirt and pants.
“Just look at them they are all covered in holes.” She said
“Well I guess you have a point.” He said “but I don’t have any money to pay for them.”
“Oh don’t worry about the money my dad runs a cloths shop.” She began “I don’t think he’ll mind”.
“Ok….I guess if it’s alright with him.” Kai said reluctantly
Kai followed Saori down a streets-filled with people that were all talking about what they were going to do during the festival, and children running around laughing and playing.
The shop was a small shop near the plaza. It had a small tree in front covered in ribbons and streamers. Inside was filled with as much color if not more than the plaza. There were colors Kai had never even seen before.
“Daddy, are you here” Saori called out.
“Yea on sec. baby” came a voice from the back of the store.
An older man emerged from the back room and stood behind the counter. He was wearing a white shirt with a vest that was a dark brown.
“Daddy would you mind if my friend got some new cloths.” She asked the man
“Sure, where is he? Is he already looking?” he asked
“No silly, he’s right here,” she said pointing at Kai.
“Oh,” the man said, “I’m sorry I didn’t see you there.”
“It’s ok.” Kai said quietly
The man looked up and down kai with a blank look like he was getting all the measurements.
“I think I might have something for you.” The man said as he walked back to the back room. After a few minutes of silence, he came back holding a bag. “Why don’t you go try these on?”
“Ok” kai said as he walked back to where a sign said dressing rooms. After a few moments, he came back. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a pair of jeans and boots.
“Wow these fit perfectly” Kai said with amazement
“Of course it fit.” The man boomed, “I haven’t had a disappointed customer yet.”
“Saori are you sure it’s alright for me to just have these.” Kai whispered in her ear.
“If its not I’ll just pay for them. Just think of it as a gift from me to you.” She answered.
She walked up to here dad and started to talk to him about the cloths and kais predicament. While she did that, kai walked around the store looking at all the cloths on the racks and on display. After a while, Saori came over to where kai was looking quite pleased with herself.
“He said you can have them.” She said with a smile.
“Really!?” kai said with surprise.
They left the store and walked out to the plaza, found a bench and sat down and started talking about things that had happened to them recently. They talked for hours on end.
