That would be terrible. It would be yet another crummy slasher film. Higurashi's great, but a good horor movie (though not necessarilly horor anime) needs very little blood and gore and a whole lot of suspense, creepy music, and unexpected attacks. A creepy villain is a must, too.

Example: Jaws. You never actually see the shark, which is twice as scary. The classic music builds up the suspense, since you know the shark's there, but don't know where or when it's going to attack. The urge to yell "Get out of the water!! It's RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!!" is almost overpowering, as is the terrifying helplessness that comes with knowing the characters can't hear you.

Nonexample: This crummy zombie flick (the name of which eludes me) made by the creator of King Kong. It's famous among the horror crowd as the "goriest movie of all time", but despite the sheer amount of blood, puss, and nauseating wounds, that's all you really get–nauseous. The first scene opens up, and three men are running away from the natives of this island (Skull Island, by the way–even then, the guy was already toying with the idea of King Kong) with a cage with a really, really ugly monkey in it. They escape the natives, and suddenly, one dude, a really overly-uptight New Zealander, drops the cage, complaining that the monkey bit him on the hand. The other two freak out, then grab a machete (was it a machete?? It's been a while, so I don't quite remember...) and hack the dude's hand off. While he's writhing in agony on the ground, they spot another bite mark, and lop that off, too. Then his other arm. Then they spot one on the back of his neck (how did the monkey manage to bite him there?? As far as I know, it never go close enough) and chop his head off, too. Again, sickening, but not the least bit scary in the way it's presented. Through out the film, it looks more like a parody of the genre, unintentionally funny (Why is it a girl saying "Your mother ate my dog!" in that freakish New Zealand accent so hillarious to a States dweller like myslef??). And the parts where it tries to be funny are just gross (such as when said mother's monkey bite suddenly spews out this glob of pink puss into the food of the guest at a dinner party, who then takes a bite–much to the son's horror–and comments on how delicious it was. Or when the mother catches her cheek with her finger nail while putting on her makeup and tears off a big flap of skin, which the son then repairs with glue). Disgusting, sickening, and unintentionally hillarious, but not at all scary.

So, to sum it up, the Americans would screw up the whole thing. Although the Disney stars brutally murdering each other would be rather entertaining.....

my rating for the live-action is "so-so". not to be rude or anything, the Rena from the live-action was kinda uh-- how would you say it -- ah! unconvincing! I wasn't impressed by the supposed to yandere moments.

Could not be done in the USA. They cannot make movies with people under the age of 15 doing actions like that and besides none of them are shoving 1 pound of cocaine up their noses a day so they wouldn't make it anyway.

Besides, after the USA writers get done rewriting the story to fit their needs no sign of the original story line or meaning would still exist when it was done.

I think it would be kind of nice for the gory parts and it would be interesting for Disney actors to play the parts of the character(I often have thought about what this thread was saying, imagining the story with the HSM cast playing the roles) but as I've seen on DB evolution... it'll fail.

Mostly they might change the story like they did on Dragonball which would suck since the original story is already perfect. The Americans would most likely change the story, setting, names and well, almost everything that it won't be Higurashi anymore... besides, i don't thing they'll act the same as the real Higurashi kids.

I doubt any fan of Higurashi would like it...

Oh, god no! It would be terrible! Just look at what Hollywood is doing to the rest of the imported horror films. The originals are far superior and have no business being remade. The only thing an American remake has over it's original is production values... and I'm sorry, you need more than that to be a good film.

An American version of Higurashi would fail, on many levels.
