- Are the same qualities that make people popular in real life also considered popular in online communities such as forums? (This is not to say that the same people are popular, but just that similar character traits - outgoing, funny, etc. are exhibited by both).
In a way yes and also, in a way, no. I can't quite describe it but there is a difference between the social style of the internet and of 'real' life. I find lot's of things that are similar though- such as how long it takes to get close to someone and when you feel you can expose your bad points.

- Are the personality traits that attracted you to your online friends the same as those that attracted you to your real life friends?
Yes- definitely!! I continuously find similarities between my friends online (CR) and my real friends. ^-^

- Do you find it easier to socialize online or off line? What makes the experience different (harder or easier)?
Hmm about the same. The only difference is here i don't have to attend 'drunk parties' to meet people. In real life you tend to get dragged out to things like that as a way of meeting people- but it doesn't really interest me.

- Does the internet really allow you to 'be yourself' or do you find yourself putting on a persona/mask?
I would say i'm the same person ^-^. Initially i had a 'persona' but that's gone now that i know people and am comfortable. Thats the same as real life though ^-^.

I think so, but it all depends on the forum, and what those kind of ppl find funny if ur loved in one place over another place (online)

- Are the personality traits that attracted you to your online friends the same as those that attracted you to your real life friends?

No, not really online its more about ppl I have things in common (online), with my friends they are just ppl I hang out with we have a lot of differences but are all goofey

- Do you find it easier to socialize online or off line? What makes the experience different (harder or easier)?

I think its easier to make friends online then offline b/c well you don't have a screen to make it easier to say things you mormally wouldnt if ppl were in front of u

- Does the internet really allow you to 'be yourself' or do you find yourself putting on a persona/mask?

I'm definitely the same person online only b/c I hate fake ppl online, which there are soooo many...like you dont have to say ur name or post a picture, but that doesnt mean u have to be fake with your personality thats not protecting your identy so much as trying to make up for your real life...which is kinda sad I think when ppl use it to be mean and stuff...

I was waiting for some one to post a thread like this (not like I've read a lot of threads lol) but I've never saw so many fake ppl in my life until I foud out about myspace and got into forums, so many butt kissers to ppl they dont know, some ppl just flat out rude and mean for no reason...

sometimes I think ppl take their online persona to far...and use the "its just the net get over it" excuse to much to get away with saying and doing mean things, b/c ppl still have feelings ya know, it be like writing a nasty letter...its just words in a different form...nothing like a keyboard bully (''/)

Eh, I'm the same online as I am in real life.
If you're my online buddy, I would probably treat you the same way I would with my real friends.
I hate being in groups in real life. I hate crowds, its the same online as well. I hate crowded chats. I prefer to be either one on one or a three people conversation.
Also my personality is the same in real life.

First Question - I really don't know how to answer that.

Second Question - I guess? It's quite hard for me to explain.

Third Question - I can say its easier to befriend people in
real life. The fact that you know them personally is already
better than knowing "Mr. Anonymous". In real life too, you
could actually spend time with your friends. Personally, I
prefer playing real billiards rather than online billiards.

Fourth Question - I show as much of myself as to both kinds
of friends. I do keep my secrets but I'm not afraid to show a
bit of my personal side. (I don't show pics tho...)

Myself, I am not very popular in both the internet world or
the real world. For me though, it is really kind of better to
have real friends instead of online ones...

1. I'm not popular anywhere ---- i'm simple, plain, and ordinary.
2. I don't really care about it that much; as long as these people shares the same interests as mine --- there'll be no problem.
3. I'm a person who's very comfortable at meeting and/or talking to people (both online and offline). Online has limitations though --- i don't give unnecessary personal info.
4. I can play both -- i can be real and i can be fake online. I can always guess if a person is geniune or not (it's basic human instinct). It doesn't bother anyone afterall.

well said ...i have the same thoughts

Depends On The People You Meet, But All & All It Should Be The Same.

- Are the personality traits that attracted you to your online friends the same as those that attracted you to your real life friends?
Dunno, About The Online Friends, Because Most Of My Buddies Just Added Me Randomly.
&...
My Real Friends, They Just Thought I Was Easy To Talk, Because I Let Them Do All The Talking & I Just Nod To Whatever They Say. - But Sometimes I Wish I Could Talk To Them About Anime & Stuff That I Enjoy (They Just Think Its Wierd... )...So No Point.

- Do you find it easier to socialize online or off line? What makes the experience different (harder or easier)?
I'd Rather Socialize Off-Line Because You Actually Can See The Person & Know Who You Talking To, Even Though Its Kinda Harder.
...
Where As Online, It May Be Easier But It Can Be Anyone, So I Keep My Personal Information To Myself.

- Does the internet really allow you to 'be yourself' or do you find yourself putting on a persona/mask?

I'll Just Say Hiding Behind A Mask Is Easier.

how do i answer this.... well hmm i have no idea

- Are the personality traits that attracted you to your online friends the same as those that attracted you to your real life friends?
no.... definitely not... my friends r... more "gang- like" then most of my online friends

- Do you find it easier to socialize online or off line? What makes the experience different (harder or easier)?
Online defeinitely. Its ezier cuz if i have 2 think b4 i answer, the person can wait but when its like face 2 face they expect quick answers. Also i sumtimes studder when I talk so its a lil tougher than typing.

- Does the internet really allow you to 'be yourself' or do you find yourself putting on a persona/mask?
Kind of both.... it depends on the person. Usually I would have 2 put on the "sympathetic, super nice" type of mask but then again for other ppl i be myself. Depends on the feelings the person Im talkin 2 gives off.

I was real honest in this post.... yea..
