still episode II

Melody had to wait for five lessons to go to infirmary because only the lunch brake was long enough for it. She already had hardly made it to the first lesson, scolded with pleasure by her teacher. So she couldn’t risk being late again.

She understood nothing from the lessons because of the pain in her arm. She felt at the edge of screaming each time her long sleeved sweater she wore to keep her wound hidden, touched her wound. She managed not to with an extraordinary effort but when Mrs. Seri told her that she looked pail and asked her if she was sick or not, she felt like she was about to cry. When the bell rang she didn’t even thought about the lunch. She collected her books and run to the door. After she ditched her books at the lockers, she didn’t stop until the infirmary.

Now the nurse was examining her arm, shaking her head and making sounds explaining her disapproval. She spoke in a scolding voice “This is a really nasty burn. You should have come to me right away.”

Melody told her the truth except that her arm had been burned with a cigarette and it was Sera who did it. She didn’t come earlier because she was afraid of being late for the lessons and the brakes were too short.

While the nurse was cleaning her wound causing tears rise from Melody’s eyes, she asked bewildered “You sat with this pain for five lessons?” looking down at Melody, “Why didn’t you tell your teacher? They would certainly send you here with a single look at it.”

Melody swallowed. She said stammering “I, well, I couldn’t think,”

The nurse didn’t seem suspected anything. She shook her head again saying, mostly talking to herself “You kids can’t think properly, always busy in your mind,” Then she started to wipe on a cold, white cream on her wound softly, making Melody totally forget about the torture before. Her pain was already easing.

When she was done, the nurse walked to her desk. Melody fallowed her. The nurse took a piece of paper on top of a stack and started filling it. “Your name?”

“Melody, Melody Beloven.

“Class?”

“E-3”

“You burned your arm with hair curling irons, right?” she asked not looking at Melody.

“Ye-yes.”

“Given a tube of cream for a week” she muttered as she wrote. Then she turned her chair to the cupboard behind her and shuffled it for a while. As she pulled out a little tube of cream and gave it to her she said “Wipe it all over the wound every morning and every night. You have seen how I did it.” Melody nodded and turned around to leave but as her hand reached the doorknob the nurse said “There will be a scar left from that wound.” Melody looked at her; she was looking directly in her eyes. She said “I hope this will be a lesson for you” Melody stared at her then turned around and left the infirmary.

EPISODE III

Something Is Different

Melody didn’t see Sera until the dinner. Even though English was their common class, she was absent in the fifth and sixth lessons. Melody’s concern and anxiety expanded more and more with every minute and became a persistent pain in her stomach. But the moment she walked in to the dinning hall for dinner she felt relieved. Sera Toprak and her loyal gang were sitting at their usual places and making fun of people. When Melody walked passed her, Melody’s and Sera’s eyes met. Maybe for the first time in three years since they met Sera was looking at her with fear and curiosity. And she understood that Sera would never mess with her again. She suddenly felt hungry again, sat down at her table and started to eat, listening the noise around her. Then she noticed a girl looking for a place to sit with her tray in her hands. Melody knew she had never seen her before. She had black, quite straight hair and big, blue eyes. She wasn’t extremely beautiful but she was definitely impressing and attractive. Melody understood from the look in her eyes and the way she acted that she was new. Her eyes unintentionally glided over Melody’s table because it was totally vacant except for Melody. She looked in her eyes. Melody nodded, the new girl smiled gratefully and sat down next to her.

They met. Her name was Alexandra Cale and she was from Canada. Her family had moved to Turkey when she was eleven. She was saying that she liked here. She was studying in the Private American College in Istanbul until last week. Because of her father’s business they had to move here and decided to register Alexandra in International Maya Boarding School. Because this school had many advantages. All the students were taking their lessons in Turkish and having backing classes to get accustomed to their new homes. Each foreign student was offered to have a guide from the Turkish students. Someone who could help them getting used to everything, answer their questions and help them with anything they need.

Melody already knew all this. Usually the families who are settled in Turkey for long terms were sending their children to this school. So they could learn to act like a Turkish and understand the country.

Alexandra was sixteen. She was registered to the tenth grade. She too, was offered to have a guide but she had refused it because she could speak Turkish enough. She wanted Melody to tell her about the school and living as a boarding student. So Melody described her, the school she is in for three years with its advantages and disadvantages, impartially. Alexandra was listening everything she said carefully. Sometimes making her stop and asking the meaning of a word. Melody was explaining it to her in English and then continuing from where she left.

In the middle of their talk the bell rang and Melody noticed, surprised, that there were almost no one left in the dinning hall. She must have totally lost the track of time talking to Alexandra. They left their trays on the counters and as they were walking to the girls dormitory Alexandra asked “Why were you sitting alone?” Melody looked up at her. She asked “I mean…why you were eating alone?” Melody stared at her for a long time then said “Because I have no one who would like to sit and eat with me”

Alexandra looked back. A smile curved her mouth and she said “Now you have me” Melody smiled back and thanked her as she left her at her dormitory. She said “You’re welcome” and as Melody started to walk away she called out and added “Hey, Melody! You can call me Alex.”

Melody liked Alex. They were getting on well and they were able to make each other laugh without effort. This was the only time Melody felt close since her best friend Denise left the school in the beginning of her second year. This was the first time since then, that she was listened.

When January came, everyone started to talk about going back home for the semester holiday. Alex too, was looking forward to go home. Though she was saying that she would miss Melody. She even invited her to her home once but Melody rejected kindly. She had never felt comfortable around the people she didn’t know. Alex, who was curious why she wasn’t going home for the holiday, picked her courage up and asked her one day. With this question Melody was lost in thought, her eyes looking deep through somewhere else, some other time Alex couldn’t see. When the things she didn’t want to think crowded her mind she turned her eyes away from Alex.

Alex said right away, “If you don’t want to tell me, then you really don’t have to,” She seriously didn’t want to upset her.

Melody forced herself and said, “Me and my mother were never close. And some time ago…” she stopped and looked outside of the window they were sitting in front of. She spoke again with a stronger voice “My mother decided her path is separate with mine. She called me on November and told me that she was moving to Los Angeles.”

Alex looked sad but Melody didn’t see pity in her eyes. That made her pleased. Alex held her hand indicating that she was here for her. Then she asked after some time when they both looked outside watching the snow flakes falling lazily upon the ocean of trees and blanketing them, “What about your father? He too, moved Los Angeles with you mom?”

Melody‘s stomach shrunk. Pain filled her and burned her throat and lungs. She managed not to cry and swallowed. “My father died when I was nine” she said with a low voice. She couldn’t say anything else. Even if wanted to she couldn’t have.

Alex felt awful for asking this. She looked at her and her gaze upon the outside world. She felt that Melody’s life had been hard and painful and that had given her a mysterious side. A certain sorrow that you could see right behind her soft looking, meaningful eyes. Her life…which had given her maturity but also darkness. She realized it was really hard for Melody to share anything with anyone. She was guarding herself with walls around her which she created over years. Still Alex was happy and glad that they had met. She was thinking that Melody was very deep and strong and even though Melody hasn’t noticed it yet, she had a purpose in her life. An important purpose.

Melody was feeling bad. Not only because Alex asked her about her dad but she was feeling something was about to happen. Something was coming and not knowing what it is and why this was making her feel uncomfortable; was making it all worse. She felt like she was at the edge of something. Like she had been climbing a roller coaster and now she had almost reached the top and she knew she was going to go down. And go down fast. A disturbing feeling had settled her stomach and it wasn’t leaving. She felt being watched. Not with the eyes she was seeing everyday. Watched by someone more…sinister? More cautious. More quiet than the night itself. Making the hair at her neck rose.

As the intensity of her feelings rose, her nights became more and more disturbed with dreams of unknown places and nightmares with unknown enemies. Something was different. She was different. The world around her was different now.

Second day of January Melody was walking in the hallway to her English class and she suddenly felt someone behind her. She stopped in a halt but didn’t turn back. She sensed the existence of the stranger as clearly as she could feel her books in her hands. Her entire body shivered and her eyes went to the left corner of her sight, trying to catch a glimpse of this ‘watcher’. She couldn’t see anyone but she knew, certain about it, ‘he’ was just a step behind her range of sight. She took a shivery but silent breath and suddenly turned around to face her ‘watcher’. As she was turning she saw something blue in mid air. Something glowing and lighting the floor underneath it. And she felt a sudden change in the air. Like air was filling an empty space rushing through the hallway flying her hair towards the spot where she saw the blue ‘thing’. But the moment her movement was complete there was nothing there to see. Everything seemed perfectly fine and untouched. She was alone and there was no one there.

Melody didn’t doubt herself. She knew she saw something, but besides that she knew something or someone was fallowing her. She was alerted and vigilant. Always half-expecting something to burst out. At night she was thinking and thinking. She had never felt like this before. A voice inside of her which Melody started to trust its judgment and opinions, was telling her these things were about what she had done to Sera and her gang. She had triggered something and now she was just waiting for the outcome of it. Not knowing what it might be, not knowing if it was bad or good.

The second Tuesday of January which was the 9th also, four days before Melody’s birthday, she was in a classroom. Taking an exam in her least favorite subject; maths. She had studied and the questions seemed easy for her. But at the 8th problem, she felt her ‘watcher’ again. Surprised and caught off guard she thought how could that be happening here. When there were more than twenty people there. She raised her head from the test and looked around. Her ,also, least favorite teacher assumed this was a weak attempt to cheat on the test and called out her name, warning her to look in front and nowhere else. She felt the eyes of the students on her but also she could sense the eyes of someone else focused on her too. Fear infiltrated her ration. She didn’t know who this was. She didn’t know if this person was a person or a human at all. She could just feel his intense gaze at her neck and know that ‘the watcher’ was behind her again. Horror of the unknown and not being able to look back to comfort herself and maybe make the watcher go away made her panic. Her hands were sweaty and her heart was beating so loud she was surprised why no one else could hear it. She breathed fast and the moment she thought things can’t go more wrong; a pain formed in her head. A very familiar pain. Expanding slowly, pressing behind her eyes. Melody started to shake and that moment her pen on her test which she hadn’t finished yet, started to tremble on the desk. Gave a small jerk at first then started to move on the desk, rolling over. The pain in her head increasing with every rolling of the pen, her desk started to shake in its natural position. And by the surprising voices and gasps all around her she understood it wasn’t just her desk which was shaking. She closed her eyes, tried to convince herself that she had control over this and she could stop this if she wanted to. She channeled her thoughts into something else. Tried to think about his father, but her inner voice interjected.

_ ‘Don’t do this Melody.’

His father had cared about her.

_ ‘Don‘t think about him. Just more pain. Don’t.’

He had loved her.

_ ‘Stop it Melody. Don’t do this. After all you did to forget’

He had called her “My melody, my music”

_ ‘Enough, quit torturing yourself.’

Her father…

_ ‘Why are you doing this? Do you think this will help?’

She remembered waiting for her dad to come home that night. So excited because he had promised her to take her to a movie. She remembered how she walked up and down in front of the door, raising her head for each car driving by. But he never came. He never came again. Because he had….

“Melody Beloven if you are finished with the test then you can leave” said her teacher pointing at her half finished paper. Melody unfolded her arms around her head and looked around. People were looking at her again but this was ordinary curiosity. Nothing was shaking anymore. She nodded feebly and gave her paper to her teacher. She wanted to leave. She wanted to go and hide somewhere. Somewhere she wouldn’t feel this intense gaze upon her.

She stood up and walked to the door with her books in her hands. As she opened the door she glanced back in to the classroom and saw the blue thing up in mid air again. She swayed at the threshold and as her teacher started to look at her with a worried expression she left the classroom.

With everything going on like this Melody would think that the feeling of something-is-about-to-happen would go away. But it didn’t. It didn’t just basically stayed intact, it also increased. Something was about to happen and something really was different….

Just got back from school. ...What, did people think I was out of high school yet?

Anyways, now for my review.
I must say, I like the way the direction this story seems to be going.
The last part was quite descriptive, so I could actually picture what was going on in my mind.

Melody was distracted and lost in thought. Even Alex realized that there was something wrong with her. She was a little dreamy. She was talking to her and Melody was responding back but her answers weren’t as full as they had been before. Like she was in the control of her auto pilot and her true self was somewhere else; gone.

Melody was getting used to feel her watcher behind her all the time. He – or she – was with her every minute now. As she sat in her classes trying to focus on her teacher in the name of keeping her grades high, he was at the farthest back corner in the classroom never cutting off his gaze upon her. As she walked in the hallways he was floating behind her – she thought he was floating because she had never heard footsteps- She was feeling his constant existence anywhere she go. Except for the bathroom. She didn’t know why – even though she had guesses which made her believe more, that her watcher was male- but her watcher was never in the bathroom when she was there. Melody had been feeling him with her until she reaches the door of a bathroom but when she was in, she was alone.

3rd day of January, Melody woke up and went to bath to take her famous I-should-do-it-before-everyone-else shower. She stood in front of the mirror wiping and wet, looking at herself. She had long brown hair, a little above her waist and a little below her shoulders. She was thin but not skinny; she always thought she inherited her mother’s body because she had never gain weight even though she loved food. Her eyes were green with thin blue lines in them. Her favorite spot in her entire body. She tried to smile at herself and thought that she was beautiful. Then her eyes got bitter and she thought that didn’t matter because her cold eyes and thick walls were keeping everyone away.

She looked at her arm, where Sera burned it. The nurse was right. The wound had left a scar. It was a little bigger than the tip of the cigarette but it was much more lighter than it was before. A little pinkish and wizened. As she got dressed, reaching her school skirt as the last the thing to put on, for the first time she felt her watcher ‘inside’ of the bathroom. She blushed all the way up to her forehead and wore her skirt as fast as she can. She looked at the mirror and said out loud “At least don’t come in here. You know, I should at least have this much privacy” her cheeks still red and flustered.

The moment she said that her watcher ‘left’. But at the same time, the door opened without a knock and Sera came in, slim and graceful even though she was in her pajamas. Sera saw her but pretended not to, walked directly to one of the cabinets and shut the door. As Melody heard the sound of the water flowing she was fully ready so, she left the bathroom going to breakfast.

Alex, who got used to Melody’s daily program, was waking up early as well to have a chance to talk to Melody as they ate. They sat in front of the great, carved rock windows and ate as they watched the spectacular out view of white and soft snow which apparently fell whole night and the frozen lake in the middle of the tall figures of pine trees; and talked.

In the middle of their conversation Melody gained full control and shut the auto pilot; focusing on Alex and Alex only. She was with her anytime she needed and Melody thought she deserved better. Even though she was accompanied with her constant stalker – Melody had changed his name from watcher to stalker because he had came in to the bathroom today- Alex was just telling her that she never dated in her life and Melody asked her why.

Alex struggled to explain. Her eyes traveled pointlessly over the crowd of the dining hall and then looked at Melody, “They are so different. They are weird. I mean…when you watch them from outside they act one way and when they are alone they act another. I can’t tell which is real. Which one is their true character and why –she frowned- do they have to have two characters. I can’t trust them…” she started to play with the olives in her plate and then added “Why do they have to be this way?”

“They aren’t all this way.” Melody replied. She drew closer and said “Look, I believe in love and I believe it has a power to overcome everything. I know it’s kind of romantic and cheesy but I believe it’s the greatest power to do anything. Some of these guys…” she pointed the dining hall with her index finger, “…they will never know what I am talking about. But some of them will feel it and their true identities as a person will reveal itself.” Melody looked at Alex with a warm compassion. “There is someone out there for you. Waiting for you to come into his life or the other way around. You have a beautiful heart and he will see it. And when the time comes” Melody smiled at her, “You will realize you trust him with your life”

Alex smiled her back widely and said “Someone is out there for you too Melody” She leaned forward to hold her hands and looked deep in her eyes talking seriously “An extraordinary person. Someone who will love you before even meeting you. Because he will see you. The way I see.” Now it was she who was pointing the dining hall, “This people, they don’t see you. They don’t see the light in your eyes which I noticed at first glance. That’s why you think you are invisible.” She had captured her eyes and whole attention, her eyes upon Melody’s, were bright and warm with her sincere feelings. “When he comes into your life he will see you in a way that no one else did before and he will love you so much, you will never be able to think that you are invisible again”

Melody shivered because of something she didn’t know. She felt what Alex was saying as she looked in her bright blue eyes. But she also felt weak and vulnerable for wanting to believe this, feeling the need to believe this. Alex drew her hands, she looked away from Melody to her own hands and said, “I believe in something else too, Melody. I believe you are a very special person. Someone great and important. Someone will live great and important things. Like soulmates. One of the greatest things there can be and I believe you will experience that.” She was still avoiding eye contact, like she was afraid to see Melody looking at her with a what-a-stupid-thought-is-this or how-naive-you-are look on her face. She added almost whispering “I think you will experience all the great things because I believe you are special in a way that I can not explain.”

Melody had been listening her seriously until now, couldn’t stop herself and burst into laughter. Alex looked at her for a while then she joined her. They both laughed making all the heads in the dining hall turn to them. One of these heads, Sera Toprak clenched her fists. She turned to her friends, breathing the rest of her plan; her eyes flamed with her hatred and rising anger.

On 24th of January, the first semester would be over and because of that Melody had exams almost everyday. Sometimes more than one in one day. All she was doing in the lessons was studying her next exam. Thus she didn’t notice the change in Sera. Even she had she probably wouldn’t have cared; she would think Sera found someone else to mess with. Also Sera was really afraid of her and she wouldn’t mess with her. What she didn’t know was Sera wouldn’t mess with her directly. January was fallowing the tradition to prepare her surprises like November and December and it was a lot more pretentious.

12th of January, one day before her bithday; Melody left the library with her books in her arms. The cold hallways were too deserted even though it was late in the evening. She should have been in bed before 10pm and it was a quarter to 10. Where were the other students who were running to their dormitories? She had a bad feeling. Something bad was going to happen. She stopped for a second to expand her senses and at a moments notice she felt her watcher behind her. This time she realized surprisingly, feeling him gave her comfort. Whatever there was ahead, she knew she wasn’t alone. Even though he wouldn’t show himself or help her, some weird way, after spending this much time with him, his existence was calming her.

She took a deep breath and kept walking knowing that ‘he’ was fallowing. Dark corridors and moonlight coming inside from the high carved rock windows made the place look a lot more mysterious and scary. Her hands over her books tightened and she wished in her mind, that her watcher was a little closer. More next to her than behind her. As she wished it, the air around her moved. A faintest wind, barely sensible, touched her face. Her hair moved just a little and she knew, for the first time ‘he’ was now next to her. She looked sideways, where he should be but didn’t see anything. Not even the blue thing in mid air. She just knew that he was there and looking at her, the way she was looking at him. Even though she couldn’t see him. Melody felt his gaze upon her face, her eyes. How could she feel him this clearly but could not see him? This was maddening.

Melody whispered to him, to her left where there stood nothing or no one but thin air. “I don’t know who you are but…please…. stay with me.” And she looked at him a little more or at least the point she thought he was standing. Then kept walking feeling him walking with her.

All the girls in her dormitory room, all twelve of them were Melody’s classmates. The people Melody took all of her classes with them, except English. Because in English, classes were divided in degrees. In the fact that how good the students were. Melody was in the class A and even though she would never say it out loud she was the best student there.

Her bed was next to one of the high windows. She dropped her things in the locker given to her. After she stopped by the bathroom, she lay down her bed and almost instantly she fall asleep.

Two hours later, when all the girls in the room were long asleep, taking deep breaths and all of them having different dreams, a spot in mid air burned. Glowing blue, it expanded took the shape of a human being; tall and well-built. Floating an inch above the floor, he was next to Melody Beloven’s bed.

He looked down at her face. Shinning under moonlight like a pearl, her hair sparkling next to her face. She was having a dream. A dream he knew she wouldn’t remember in the morning. A dream about her home. About his home.

He had to go and report to her, he knew but he didn’t want to leave her. Not after Melody asked him to stay with her. But he had to. She was waiting and he knew it was important. He kneeled next to her bed. Looking at her beautiful face as she was sleeping. He watched her eyes moving under her eyelids. Listened her breathing, deep and steady. Then he rose to his feet with all his height. Looking down again, he whispered, his voice softer than a rain drop, lighter than a warm breeze. Voiced only for her, so it reached her while she slept.

“I’ll be back.”

And he stood there his hands in front of him as if he was praying. He closed his eyes and bent his head down. A blue light appeared in the middle of his chest where his hands were united. It grew larger until it obscured him. A burning blue flame. It covered him yet it was him. Then he vanished. So did the blue light. There stood nothing now. As if he never stood there. As if he was never there.

But in her dream, the dream she wouldn’t remember Melody heard his voice reaching her. She thought it must have been a part of her dream, yet next morning all she remembered from her dream was his voice. His deep and calming voice.

“I’ll be back.”

Episode IV

Glitters In The Darkness

Melody’s birthday started with a snow storm. Clouds were right above the high school building and the wind was so strong and stinging. It was pressuring the thick two layered windows and causing loud noises like there was a pissed off monster outside who wanted to tear down the entire building.

Melody stood in front of the windows watching the pandemonium. Graceful pine trees were buckling and bowing the wind accepting its force, obeying its ruling. The cars outside, all parked in the parking lines were covered with snow above their tire levels. Even if they could clean up the snow around it, Melody knew they wouldn’t be able start their cars because of the cold.

The school was warm. At least where they were gathered. The corridors, bathrooms and halls were colder than classrooms and dormitories. Melody took her coat with her as she left her dormitory to go and eat. As she started to walk in the corridors, her coat rubbing against her knees, she realized her watcher wasn’t there. She came to a halt and looked around; widening her senses to feel him but it was pointless. He wasn’t there. Melody felt unprotected and vulnerable. She had hated that feeling all her life.

Melody tried to look strong and upright as she started to walk again. As she reached the dining hall five minutes later, all of her fake confidence and unconcern were long gone. She stood in the line to collect her breakfast and then she went to her and now Alex’s table.

Alex caught her before she got a chance to start her breakfast. She was radiant and happy as always. Melody sometimes thought, that was exhausting; but it was who she is and she knew, the reason why she thought that way because SHE was rarely happy. They talked about random things but Melody realized Alex was glancing at her in every other second and after a while Melody couldn’t help herself and asked “Why are you looking at me that way? Is something wrong?”

Alex looked perplexed. She stared at her for a while and then said “Something is different with you. I am just trying to figure out what. Your eyes look a little more blue than they used to be, but that’s not just it.” She examined her face, making Melody feel really uneasy. As she heard ‘more blue’ she had felt her heart had leapt and then dropped on her stomach. She answered stammering “I…my eyes change color depending on what I wear. If a wear something dark, they become bluish; something light, they become green.” As she said it she was glad that her coat was black to back up her lie.

Alex dropped it and they talked about the weather instead. Melody didn’t tell her that today was her birthday. She didn’t want her to celebrate her birthday just because she told her that it is. Melody went to her first class and Alex went to hers.

After a day full of studies of the next day’s double exams, Melody was tired and she wanted to go her dormitory. But she had homework so stopped by the library to finish them. When they were all finally over, Melody had to go dinner now. It was 6.30 pm and already pitch-black outside. The full moon of yesterday wasn’t visible today because of the thick clouds. Neither the stars. When she was walking to the dining hall she noticed one more time the non-existence of her watcher. She wrapped her arms around herself to keep the loneliness she was feeling away.

After their dinner she said goodbye to Alex and one more time she walked through the corridors. Thinking of her watcher, thinking of his voice in her mind. She knew it was his. But no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t remember her dream. She was feeling like if she could remember it she would finally see her watcher.

As she drew closer to the spot where she always left Alex when they’re together, she heard a warning inside of her. She felt a clear threat, a burning sensation of an upcoming danger. Her full attention focused on her feeling, her eyes searched her surroundings. Her heart beating fast and hard, her hands sweaty but steady. She walked slowly to the corner wanting to see what’s ahead, afraid to see what’s ahead. She wanted her watcher to be here. She wanted him to comfort her, give her his unique calmness. She wanted to feel his gaze upon her, meaning that ‘I am watching you Melody, you are safe’.

Melody felt like an idiot for getting scared in her own school, where she walked and lived for last three years. But she also knew she never felt anything like this. She reached the corner, walking without making any sound, her long coat rubbing her legs and her eyes alerted for the smallest movement. Then she heard it.

Someone screamed with pain. Melody thought she knew this voice but her mind didn’t except this possibility. The light above her head flickered and faded. But they weren’t gone totally. She stopped being cautious and careful, she run along the corridor and freeze in front of a classroom door which was left ajar and low voices issued from.

Melody recognized one of the voices instantly and at that moment another voice moaned with agony. With a shock Melody understood this was Alex. She burst into the classroom and Sera Toprak jumped back, with a little curved knife in her hand. Melody’s eyes found the knife and then the blood pouring down from Alex who was held against the wall by two guys and now crying. Anger erased everything in her mind. Her senses informed her that her watcher was back but she didn’t care. Her eyes found Sera’s and all the lights in the entire school went off. Sera now looking at Melody saw her eyes glowing bright blue in the darkness. She felt her rage and her plan to make her life miserable and using her only friend to do it seemed like a small, idiot, childish thing. She never ever dreamed of this look and anything that happened afterwards.

Melody fully conscious of what she is doing but not knowing why she was doing it, raised her right hand towards Sera and just thought in her mind what she wanted to happen. And so it did. Sera’s feet left the floor and she flew back in the classroom hitting the back wall and sliding down. Her knife flew out of her hand and went under a desk. A girl standing next to Melody tried to stop her by pushing her but she couldn’t even touch her. Her hands hit something a few inches away from Melody’s body. Blue flames appeared the spot where her hands touched and Melody’s head turned her. The girl stood frozen then fell on her knees and hands. After a second she was unconscious. The boys looked at her but they weren’t half as brave as the girl was. They tried to run to the door but Melody waved her hand toward a desk and it threw itself in front of the boys, both hit it and fell on the floor.
That second Melody screamed with pain and her hands flew over her head. She pushed herself to stay awake but the pain was unbearable. Her head had been ripped open she felt she was trying to keep it together in her hands. A wave of pain came and she fell. Her eyes lost focus. The moment her conscious was leaving she saw a burning blue spot in mid air. It grew larger and gained a shape. She tried, tried to stay there and see him but another wave came and everything disappeared.

Her watcher stood in the middle of the mess, thinking why this has happened. He raised his hand and closed his eyes. A blue light surrounded everyone in the class except Melody.

He thought that she would be mad at him for using this power because she was really strict about altering people’s memories but he believed this was necessary. Remembering what happened here wouldn’t help any of them. She would understand.

He crouched next to Melody, pushed her hair away from her face and gazed down at her. She wasn’t able to control her power yet, he thought. He remembered the times of his blackouts. That pain…He hesitantly reached out and put his hand over her cheek. His hand got wet and he realized she had cried. His heart ached at the idea of her being sad and scared. Getting used to this thing wasn’t easy. Every anger, fear, hatred was a trigger now. She had to find a way to control her emotions or anytime she felt a strong feeling they would trigger another burst out.

He watched her for a little longer but than he realized she was about to wake up. He stood up and took a few steps back, looked around and then saw the blackboard. He walked towards it and took a piece of chalk. He wrote on the board what she had to know and before she opened her eyes he disappeared again. He wasn’t gone though. He was just invisible.

Melody woke up after a few minutes. Her head throbbing and feeling sick. She sat up and looked around. The lights were back. All four of them, Sera and her three accomplises were still out. She got scared, tears rose in her eyes. How was she going to explain what had happened here. Who would believe her? She sat on the floor and covered her face with her hands. Crying and not knowing what to do…Then she heard a voice. Something hitting the blackboard. She raised her head and saw a piece of chalk rolling over the floor. She watched it for a moment then looked up on the board. She saw something was written there.
Melody forced herself to stand up, tears glittering on her cheeks and shaking she walked to the board and read what’s written. It was English and the letters were sharp but kind. But she didn’t notice any of it. It was saying,

“They won’t remember a thing Melody. You don’t have to worry about it. Just leave before they wake up and don’t forget to erase this”

Melody stared at her own name written by her watcher’s hand. She turned around and searched the class. She couldn’t see him. Of course, she thought…She whispered “What do you mean they won’t remember a thing? How come? Who are you? Shit!! Why don’t you show yourself to me?” Nothing happened. Then she saw the piece of chalk on the floor floating in the air. It moved to the board and as she watched it, her eyes big and her heart beating, it wrote four words.

“I can’t. Not yet.”

Melody tried to grab the hand holding the chalk but she couldn’t. Like it was really flying by itself and there was no one to hold it. But she knew he was there and it was him who wrote it.

A low moan rose from one of the boys. Melody jumped with fear, grabbed the eraser and cleaned the message. When he started to stir, she left the classroom and run to her dormitory. She first felt bad for leaving Alex behind but then she thought that Alex probably didn’t even remember seeing her.

Ten minutes later Melody was in bed, looking at the high ceiling and now shinning moonlight creating shadows. She turned her head sideways and looked at the point where she thought he was. She whispered quietly, so quietly she thought maybe he didn’t hear.

“Thank you and…Goodnight…My guardian angel.”

Even though her voice was really low he didn’t need to hear her words to understand her. He heard her voice echoing through his mind, flowing down and warming his heart. As she closed her eyes to a dream filled with unknown, familiar places and unknown, familiar people; he walked to her bed, bent down and kissed her forehead, then whispered,

“Happy birthday, Melody.”
